I just finished watching last night’s Newsnight on Israel.

The dumb blonde presenter, Emily Maitlis, was visibly miffed when she gave the last word to an American who openly laughed at her suggestion that Israel was being heavy handed. She was also thwarted by Gideon Meir in her attempts to silence him every time he gave a reply she didn’t want to hear. All in all the young lady didn’t fare too well.

    Archduke,

I sent the following comment to the editor’s blog:

i>In light of the fact that the BBC has virtually obliterated the word ‘terrorist’ from all its media,
it’s interesting that the comments section of your ‘Have Your Say’ blog is liberally sprinkled with the word – as can be seen in topics such as the Mumbai bombing.

So do tell, why is ‘terrorist’ not on your automated list of blocked words? Could it be because ‘abusive, offensive and provocative’ comments like ‘Israel and America are terrorist states’ – also liberally sprinkled throughout your blog – would then be automatically deleted?

Have Your Say has made a good deal of progress towards transparency but you have a long way to go before you can truly say that you are unbiased in your choice of which comments to publish and which to delete.

Well, I suppose it could be worse. They could be calling Hamas and Hizbullah ‘freedom fighters’.

Then we’ll know they truly are lost.

I have just listened to a bizarre World at One. Shirley Williams thinks EuroPol should work with police forces in Lebanon to “identify” Hezbollah terrorists !!!!!!

Does she want a raid like Forest Gate ?

I mean they control Southern Lebanon – how hard is it to identify them ?

Then we had the BBC idiot asking the mayor of an Israeli town under rocket attack if he thought they were doing as much damage as Israeli shelling.

Somewhere I think these people have had their brains fried. Can anyone be so openly stupid and have no shame ?

    Obviously in awe of Hezbollah.

“were captured to pressure Israel to release the thousands of Palestinian prisoners in its jails.”

you mean , thousands of TERRORISTS, who have been tried, convicted and sentenced for terrorist acts.

“The raid is clearly a gesture of solidarity towards the Palestinian militants in Gaza”

rather than just pure hatred of Jews.. how enlightening you are BBC.

“The group is also very popular in Lebanon and highly respected for its political activities, social services and its military record against Israel.”

which included endless waves of suicide bombings, sending brainwashed young men to their deaths.

Tsk tsk BBC – you are lying by omission again.

“All sides are for now taking hardline positions, but it’s difficult to see how the Israelis are going to get their soldiers back without some kind of ceasefire followed by negotiations that will almost certainly involve prisoner releases”

Responding militarily to a bunch of murdering Islamofascist thugs who rain endless rockets and bombs down on your population is “hardline”?

maybe the questions are scripted for her?

That is a surprise! No mention of it in her BBC bio. I’m sure the questions are scripted and she’s under pressure to ask them all and has nowhere near the freedom to ad-lib as Jeremy Paxman. Perhaps more than miffed she was genuinely surprised.

Bryan, yes, so much of that Orwell essay could be said today.

Yet one of the marks of antisemitism is an ability to believe stories that could not possibly be true. One could see a good example of this in the strange accident that occurred in London in 1942, when a crowd, frightened by a bomb-burst nearby, fled into the mouth of an Underground station, with the result that something over a hundred people were crushed to death. The very same day it was repeated all over London that “the Jews were responsible”. Clearly, if people will believe this kind of thing, one will not get much further by arguing with them. The only useful approach is to discover why they can swallow absurdities on one particular subject while remaining sane on others.
But now let me come back to that point I mentioned earlier — that there is widespread awareness of the prevalence of antisemitic feeling, and unwillingness to admit sharing it. Among educated people, antisemitism is held to be an unforgivable sin and in a quite different category from other kinds of racial prejudice. People will go to remarkable lengths to demonstrate that they are not antisemitic.

    Good article

“Eleven months ago, Israel withdrew from every last inch of the Gaza Strip. They dismantled all military bases, turned over functioning greenhouses that could employ 4,000 people, expelled all 7,500 Israeli settlers at a huge financial and political cost and declared the lines that divide Israel from Gaza to be an international frontier, making Gaza the first independent Palestinian territory ever.

Everyone’s expectation was that the Palestinians, so treated, would show the world what they could achieve with freedom. Alas, they have shown all too well. Not one day of peace has followed. “

    BBC BIAS AGAINST CHRISTIANITY

    SUMMARY

BBC’s bias on evidence again in its treatment of Christianity which it regularly ridicules and critices (with the likes of Jerry Springer for example) while at the same time treating Islam with reverence, uncritically refusing to publish the Danish cartoons of Mohammed for example.))

Now they’ll have a three part series on examining the miracles of Jesus which will be presented by Ragi Omar. which prompted the following comment from the spokesman for the Scottish Bishops:

“I’m not suggesting for a moment that Ragi Omar is anything but a professional journalist who I am sure has been hired because of his skills as a presenter and journalist. But can you imagine the BBC asking prominent Christians like Cliff Richard or Jonathon Edwards to present an investigative and critical look at Muhammad?

“You just know it would not be allowed. That is why there is a danger the BBC is being increasingly regarded as only taking a pop at Christians. I am all for criticism, but let’s at least have a level playing field.”

    ARTICLE

The BBC has been criticised by the Catholic Bishops in Scotland for its “negative” views of Christianity as it launches a new series examining the miracles of Jesus.

The new three-part series ‘The Miracles of Jesus’ will, according to the BBC’s own blurb, examine the “secret codes” of the miracles as believed by first century Christians and explore who Jesus considered himself to be.

Among the miracles explored will be the feeding of the five thousand, while actors will be used throughout to recreate familiar accounts in the Gospel of some of the miracles performed by Jesus.

But it is the Muslim presenter that is the source of the controversy over the series, journalist Ragi Omar.

Peter Kearney, spokesman for the Catholic Bishops in Scotland, said there was an increasing danger the BBC was regarded as presenting negative images only of Jesus and Christians while treating other religions “more lightly”, reports Catholic newspaper The Universal.

Mr Kearney brought out a number of controversial shows including Jerry Springer • The Opera, as well as programmes that attacked the story of Noah’s Ark or which claimed Jesus was the child born of Mary after she had been raped by a Roman soldier.

“It always seems that it’s Christianity which gets the investigative and negative treatment,” said Mr Kearney.

“I also remember a highly offensive documentary on Mother Theresa. Yet you would struggle to think of a programme giving the same treatment to Mohammed or Buddha. In fact, I don’t think there have been any.

    Jonathan,

I wouldn’t worry about the TV detector van. They are pretty much just for show. A guy at work, used to work for the TV Licencing people. He says that they’d just drive down and sit outside the local schools at ‘Home Time’. All the mothers would see it and rush out to buy a TV Licence.

He also said that they never took anybody to court, unless they were full of attitude. Usually, people were just told to buy a Licence.

Anyway, I’ve never personally owned a TV Licence, so I won’t be on their computers. The address is obviously on their systems, but they don’t know:

    1) If it is occupied
    2) Who is living there
    3) Is there a working TV

They catch people during the day. If you work full time and there is nobody else in the house 9 till 5, then the chances of getting a visit are very slim.

There was a spot of light at the end of the BBC tunnel on World Have Your Say last night. They had a few callers on who were spouting the usual anti-Israel rubbish when one of the presenters read out a comment from a Lebanese blogger, which went something like this:

I can see the firecrackers being set off by Hizbullah supporters. Enough. Curse you, Hizbullah, to hell and back for all the destruction. It’s not Israel’s fault. It’s yours.

Strong stuff! Of course one of the callers was trying to object even as the comment was being read out, to which one of the presenters replied that they’d received many e-mails of the same nature.

Another e-mail they read out went something like this:

The people of Lebanon don’t support Hizbullah. Lebanon is beginning to awaken after 30 years of Syrian oppression.

    This is the BBC?
