    Thanks

You confirm exactly the words Naughtie used this morning in the central slot on Today about Gaza – in his script – that are a serious lie.

JU: Thanks to Al Beeb and other MSM outlets I’ve rediscovered my “Christian roots”… That probably wasn’t their intention but the more you get islam stuffed down your throat the more you look at the historical / religious background of your civilisation. I’ve done that and I appreciate the Western civilisation more than ever (including our Judeo / Christian values).

Sorry, Al Beeb. I’m not going to convert to islam anytime soon. Go, Israel!

Well worth reading is Dan Gillerman, Permanent Representative of Israel to the UN’s speech to the Security Council today:

    http://www.israel-un.org/sec_council/60thUNGA/gillerman14july2006.htm

He quotes Lebanese parliamntarians and finally speaks directly to his Lebanese counterpart:

    Mr. President,

There are words that speak far louder and clearer than anything I can voice today. These are voices of Lebanese • brave, patriotic Lebanese parliamentarians and ministers • who just over the last two days have cried out to all of us from the brink of the abyss in their beloved country. Let me quote some of these courageous statements. The words of Lebanon’s communication minister, Mr. Maruan Hammuda, saying only yesterday that “Damascus gives the orders, Iran supplies the equipment, Israel reacts, Lebanon is the victim.”

Or the words of Elias Attallah, a Lebanese politician representing a majority of its parliament members: ” We welcome any Arab and international support but strongly oppose any enforced involvement of Lebanon by regional players’ considerations (a reference to Syria and Iran) that are not within the interests of the Lebanese people for the sole attempt to achieving opportunistic benefits at the expense of the Lebanese people…The Syrian regime indulges itself in teaching Lebanon and Palestine lessons according to its own interests through these peoples. Why do those who always protect this regime express understanding of its reasons and preferences and do not express any understanding of Lebanon’s reasons and preferences?”

Or the words of an unnamed Lebanese minister, who said, “The Hizbullah has not only kidnapped two Israeli soldiers, it has taken the whole of Lebanon hostage.”

    Mr. President,

With your permission, I would like to make a personal appeal to my esteemed Lebanese colleague.

    Your Excellency,

You know, deep down, that if you could, you would add your voice to those of your brave countrymen. You know, deep down in your heart, that you should really be sitting here, next to me, voicing the same opinion. You know that what we are doing is right, and, if we succeed, your country will be the real beneficiary. I am sure many of our colleagues around this table and in this chamber, including many or our neighbours, share this sentiment.

    Mr. President,

This Council and the international community have a duty today to help the Lebanese people achieve the goal of a free, prosperous and democratic Lebanon. The sad and tormented life of this war-torn land has today entered another sad chapter in its history. It is up to every one of us to help write this chapter, to ensure that this opportunity is seized, not only for the benefit of the Lebanese and Israeli people, but for the sake of generations to come.

    Thank you Mr. President.

Yes my disillusioned friend, a daily dose of Islam tends to develop a healthy aversion.

I stopped watching British TV a long time ago but I am starting to wonder about BBC radio, After listening last night to World Tonight interview Avi Schlaim as an expert on Israel it is zum kotzen as we say. Here was a secularised Jew born in Baghdad to a household with 10 servants (Jonathan Dimbleby only grew up in a home with seven) and came to Britain where he is now an expert in telling us how awful Israel is.

Will anyone tell us about a religious state founded in 1947 which has inflicted so much trouble on the world, that it has fought repeated wars -1947-48; 1965; 1971 – against the country it was carved out of; it has now become a hotbed of terrorism, and it has a British Government crawling to tribal leaders to influence urban votes in British cities………………oh yes, the Islamic Republic of Pakistan.

Now if that particular country had never been created !

I wonder how far the BBC does the bidding of the Government………..this government………..it likes to play both sides of the street and is busy sucking up to Fanatical Islamofascists.

Bush blames Hezbollah and Hamas………….Blair cannot find anyone to blame………….seems he needs to keep Islamofascism sweet………….no doubt he’ll have Lord Goldsmith have another crack at Nick Griffin

I’m Melanie Phillips biggest fan. Imagine such a tiny little woman going head to head with numerous jihadi thugs. She’s f*cking brave!

“it likes to play both sides of the street and is busy sucking up to Fanatical Islamofascists.”

A channel 4 documentary, aired tonight, said exactly that, with evidence to back it up. Foreign Office are the main culprits.

this policy is no doubt feeding into the BBC.

“the BBC reporting of Israel has become
a weapon of war against the innocent. It should be raised in Parliament as a matter of urgency.”

    too bloody right!

The blog that Melanie Phillips quotes is by the parents of a young schoolgirl killed by a Palestinian terrorist. How they must despise the BBC for distorting the truth.

That was amazing. i just watched ARD German TV with its coverage from Beirut – it was not as bad as BBC but not so good as ORF Austrian TV.

The German ARD said the EU in the Finnish Presidency had attacked Israel’s actions – but ORF interviewe Benito-Ferrer the Foreign Affairs Commissioner who said basically what Bush had said – Israel had a right to defend itself, don’t kill too many civilians, and the kidnapped soldiers should be released.

ORF TV was so much more balanced than either ARD or BBC – refreshing !

Balance reporting according to the BBC:

In choosing to present both sides of the frightening events of the past 36 hours, BBC’s voice from Beirut happens to be that of Kim Ghattas (pictured), a born-in-Lebanon Lebanese who speaks English smoothly and is never identified as partisan or even (in our experience) Lebanese. The BBC’s choice of academic expert is a Lebanese man based in Washington DC with a very Lebanese viewpoint. And the message from both (paraphrased by us) is: it’s those belligerent Israelis all over again, and until civilized and cultured forces from outside step in, the bloodshed will continue. We’re now into the second half-hour of this hour-long bulletin, and while there’s not a single word – not one word, not one image – so far about what’s being done to Israeli towns all over the Galilee, there is a diplomatic analysis, courtesy of Syria’s ambassador to the UN. (Yes, Syria.)

nor the thousands of others fleeing southwards.

Hezbollah rocket attacks are given just a brief mention – blink and you’d miss it
