Peter Barron, editor of Newsnight

, invites us to send a message to the TV industry on the BBC Editors blog for the mediagrauniad Edinburgh International TV Junket Festival this weekend (though Peter missed out the mediagrauniad bit for some reason).

Biased BBC reader Rockall tried to send a message, but was yet another victim of the BBC’s apparently buggy comment submission process. Knowing how keenly Newsnight follow Biased BBC, here’s Rockall’s comment for Peter:

I haven’t got a problem with most TV – its rubbish largely, but that’s fine.

I really resent the BBC though. You think you are there to make Britain better. Our self appointed moral guardians. You are so arrogant.

I have to pay for your services but you don’t speak for me.

At least if we don’t like what politicians are doing or saying we can vote them out. You are completely unaccountable.

You control the news agenda in the UK. You cannot control the internet. People can finally find out about all your grubby doings. Although it never appeared on the 6 o’clock news covering up the Balen report was a massive own goal. It showed you as a bunch of hypocrites rather than seekers of truth. I’m sure that was just the tip of the iceberg.

Everyone knows what the BBC thinks about America, Israel, Christianity, the Monarchy, the Conservative Party, President Bush, Multiculturalism, Immigration, Green Issues, Fidel Castro, Palestine, Islam, the European Union and the Labour Party so I don’t need to say what I think the BBC position is on any of them.

The reason I hate the BBC is perhaps because I once held it in such high regard. You were supposed to be working on behalf of the ordinary people of Britain. You sold us out and laughed at us while you did it.

Like I’m sure you are doing now – laughing into your cappuccinos.

…sentiments shared by many – especially paragraph six, “Everyone knows what the BBC thinks about…”. Sums up the BBC nicely. Will that do Peter?

It will be interesting to see how the BBC will give support to Hillary Clinton in the coming US election. During the last election the BBC did all it could to get Kerry elected. Simon Mayo’s regular “let’s get another author of an anti George Bush book on..” failed dismally as the ONLY book that made any impression in the US election was “Unfit for Command” which helped destroy the myth of Kerry as a war hero. But did the BBC see fit to interview the author (John E. O’Neill) even once? Oh no, instead Simon Mayo had Al Franklin on (who I hear you ask). So desperate was Mr Mayo to get Franklin on, the interview was done with Franklin in the USA and his new book (another anti George Bush rant) wasn’t even released in the UK at the time.

I hate the BBC. I’m fed up with people saying “well if you don’t like it, don’t watch”. Fine, but why should I pay? I don’t like the huge amounts of money paid to footballers, so I cancelled my Sky Sports subscription. I wish I could do that to the BBC.

I thought I was alone in having comments not show up in the comments thread on the Editors blog – hmmmm.

    Hear, hear, Rockall! Well said.

Why did Rockall ever hold the BBC in high regard? I never have. As long as I can remember it has been mainly a mass manufacturer of trashy entertainment and dodgy news.

I’m ashamed I contribute to it, but I do like the football on Sky Sports so the government gives me no choice.

I don’t have the numbers, but I’m sure Rockall can take some satisfaction from the fact that amongst many others I share a similar sense of betrayal. I endorse every word.

  7. Pete says:

Mesmereyesed? When were you betrayed by the BBC? When was it anything other than it is now?

It’s mainly a manufacturer of trashy entertainment and dodgy news. It always was. We don’t need BBC types thinking they can return to some kind of golden age which justifies the bizarre and unfair funding method they currently enjoy.

Pete – It WAS different than it is now – a very long time ago. I remember my Dad bouncing me on his knee telling me about the things I should be proud of in my country. The BBC was one of them. It would make him sick to see what they have become today. It makes me sick too.

But please don’t mistake me. There can be no going back now. The BBC must be broken up for the common good. They are way past redemption.

What makes me most sick about the BBC is it’s political agenda.
    A daily news list:

What is good is the BBC world:

    Women
    Women’s issues
    The Environment
    The Labour party
    Africa and India
    Multiculturalism
    European Union
    European Treaties
    Gays
    High taxes
    NHS

    What is bad:

    Anyone doing anything for Profit
    Anyone rich
    The Conservative Party
    The Monarchy
    Tradition (except licence fee)
    British history
    Christians
    Traditional married families
    Anyone who dislikes imigration
    Private healthcare
    Private schools

Rocakll, the BBC is not past redemption. It doesn’t need redemption. It is a perfectly commonplace manufacturer of trashy entertainment, and it runs a biased news service just like many biased news services. The only odd thing about the BBC is that we are forced to pay for it.

I’m ashamed that my money goes towards cheap and nasty programs that do nothing but rot the brains of those who watch them. It’s like the government forcing me to contribute to junk food, cigarettes or harmful drugs for mass distribution.

Except for Turkish, Albanian, Chechen, Berber and Arab Muslims, as well as white Westerners who convert to Islam!
