That’ll make everything better.

Alternatively, prove to me that Peston doesn’t have this muddled economic view, and then I’ll think about it.

Before Peston succeeded Jeff Randall as the BBC’s business editor he was inter alia:

City Editor of the Sunday Telegraph; economics columnist on the Sunday Times; economics columnist on the Daily Telegraph; associate editor of the Spectator, Banking Editor and Financial Editor of the Financial Times.

All of these are pro-business, pro-capitalism titles.

Would they have hired someone to perform these important and prestigious roles if he were the simpleton you allege him to be?

The ‘multiculturalist’ unarticulated line of Labour, Lib Dems, Guardian, Independent, BBC, and beyond, seems to be: yes, let them all in fron the many troubled parts of the ‘third world’ – Afghanistan, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Iraq, Somalia, etc. An unending stream/torrent, depending on conflicts. In effect, mass immigration driven by conditions in ‘the Third World’, backed by the ‘multiculturalists’.

And once they’re here: there’s the EU Convention on Human Rights to ensure they can stay here as long as necessary, with more ‘multiculturalist’ demands that they be granted full UK citizenship.

    Anonymous | 18.06.08 – 10:25 am |”

Actually, there was bias initially. That story on the BBC you refer to had the headline that Israel agreed to the truce BEFORE Israel had announced their agreement. The headline was directly lifted from a Hamas press release. In fact, the Guardian was more circumspect, and accurate, in its headline: “Hamas claims agreement with Israel on Gaza truce”. ( http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/ …estinians.egypt ).

Now that Israel has announced it has agreed to the truce as well, other news services are headlining this as fact. But the BBC’s apparently clairvoyant reporters announced it well before Israel acknowledged agreeing–in fact some Israeli spokesmen were saying it was not a foregone conclusion–and the only possible explanation for this is that they place inherent trust in their Hamas sources.

You do really talk rubbish sometimes. Have you actually READ the story?

The headline uses quotes to make clear this is an unconfirmed claim:

    Israel and Hamas ‘agree truce’

Then the body text spells out who is making the claim:

Israel and militant group Hamas have agreed to end months of bitter clashes with a six-month truce starting on Thursday, Palestinian officials say.

Then, for good measure we get:

Israeli officials stress that phone lines to Cairo are “still running hot”.

Would they have hired someone to perform these important and prestigious roles if he were the simpleton you allege him to be?

Yes. Although he’s not a simpleton, just wrong-headed when it comes to certain issues. Why do you think he was sort of correct in predicting the demise of Northern Rock? He had been sniffing around for years, trying to find dirt on “greedy bankers”. He’s very intelligent, educated, sure. Whining about hedge funds and private equity money is a staple of his repertoire. He was wrong about how wealth re-distribution when he wrote for the FT and the Spectator, and he’s wrong now. He is Britain’s answer to Paul Krugman.

The acorn does not fall far from the tree:

His father is Maurice Peston, now Lord Peston of Mile End, who founded the economics department at Queen Mary College, London, and advised Labour ministers.

The above is from a breathless encomium from his pals at the Telegraph. These are journos, who are all friendly and sympathetic, and hire each other. I don’t care about Peston’s CV, or who is friends are. He put his own wealth-redistribution ideals into this piece, and he’s wrong about it.

Any chance the BBC will mention this negative behavior in their next fawning feature on Obama?

Didn’t Realize What He Was Saying?

An advisor, Daniel Kurtzer, to Barack Obama says that Obama didn’t realize what he was saying to AIPAC when he used the term”undivided” in reference to Jerusalem. According to Kurtzer, Obama had “a picture in his mind of Jerusalem before 1967 with barbed wires and minefields and demilitarized zones.” Kurtzer says that only after the speech did Obama realize it was a “code word” to use the phrase, “but it does not indicate any kind of naivete about foreign affairs.”

Right. And this is the guy we’re supposed to trust to lead the free world? How many times now have we heard him say one thing when his advisers are saying he really takes a different position? Not only that, but he was addressing a special interest group but didn’t know what he was talking about?

Kurtzer is actually saying that Obama didn’t mean to support Israel’s position that an undivided Jerusalem should be its capital. This means Obama is really sympathetic to a divided Jerusalem, part of which will be a Palestinian capital. Remember that the next time the media tells you that Jews are wrong to be concerned about his support of Israel.

But never mind the Jews for now. This is really just another example of what seems more and more like Clintonian duplicity, and the BBC and Leftoid US media will ignore it.

Amazing but sadly true, the Times has always been an ‘establishment’ paper so it’s not surprising, especially under Murdoch that it supports NuLabour (and has been going down market steadily over the last few years)

Sadly the Torygraph is no longer a conservative newspaper since the new editorial team assumed command and the new owners exerted their influence so although it is still blue the colour is getting more pastel and shaded with pink. Methinks that korova doesnt read these papers.

Yes, but in the minds of korova and those of similar attitudes, the fact that Murdoch owns the Times ends the discussion. I bet the editors would love to hear how much they support the Tories and right-wing they are.

Murdoch owns it, thus it must be right-wing, full stop. Or because it didn’t splash “No Blood For Oil!” on the front page for six months before the US invaded Iraq, doesn’t do enough articles about nationalizing industries, or hasn’t called for Bush’s and Blair’s arrest or something.

“You do really talk rubbish sometimes. Have you actually READ the story?”

Yes. I was talking about the headline.

“The headline uses quotes to make clear this is an unconfirmed claim:

Israel and Hamas ‘agree truce’ ”

With all due respect, there is zero-consistency to the use of quotes by the BBC website. The quotes could mean anything–that they are parroting a spokesperson, that they are being careful to use the term “truce” rather than some other term. It’s impossible to tell. The only thing you can tell from the headline is that the BBC assigns equal weight to both sides regarding the claim or statement about the “truce.” That is where it is flawed.

This would be a silly semantic exercise were this an exception to the rule. But the site is inundated with headlines that routinely and subtly slant against Israel, in many different ways. It’s simply a function of the inherent biases of the folks who run the site, biases which some of them may not even be aware of.

“Then the body text spells out who is making the claim:

Israel and militant group Hamas have agreed to end months of bitter clashes with a six-month truce starting on Thursday, Palestinian officials say.”

This proves my point, not yours. They present the Palestinian claim in the headline as though it was either true, or was claimed by both sides, which, at the time, it was not.

“Then, for good measure we get:

Israeli officials stress that phone lines to Cairo are “still running hot”.”

This proves my point that they are more than happy to lurch forward with Hamas press releases rather than wait responsibly for official Israeli announcements before writing a headline that implies parity, unlike the Guardian.

More proof of the BBC’s total and utter blind infatuation with Barak Hussein Obambi:

The following story is big in the US at the minute…it has emerged that Obama campaign staffers shooed two headscarf-wearing Muslim women out of view of the cameras at an Obamarama event in Detroit…here is it as reported by the UK Times.

    http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/us_and_americas/us_elections/article4167409.ece

As you’d expect, no mention of it at all on the Al Beeboid website – proof that they fully intend to give Obama a free pass throughout this campaign. Can you imagine the furore at the Beeb if the same happened at a McCain Event? It would be top story, I have no doubt about that. They would be foaming at the mouth with the opportunity to paint Obambi’s opponent as a Muslim-hating bigot.

You’d think that the BBC would at least attempt to cover its tracks by mentioning this story if only in passing – but no, they’re so brazen about their undying love for Obama that they’re prepared to ignore the story altogether.

I wonder how long it will take them to whip something fawning and non-judgmental up after they read this? Does anyone at the Beeb actually visit this site?

  38. David Preiser (USA) says:

More racialist lies spoken about the US on the World Service right now. Spurned on by the recent tempest-in-a-teapot between racialist Spike Lee and tall white man Clint Eastwood, this is a segment about how Hollywood and television doesn’t do anything for black people, doesn’t have any shows representing black people, or any movies about black people.

There is an African American woman on just this moment decrying how white, racist Hollywood has misrepresented, shamed, and scarred America by not representing black people in the cinema.

The Beeboid presenter was not trying to get to the bottom of the issue, but instead was asking leading questions, only encouraging the woman in the direction she was already headed.

These days, of course, this is a complete lie. Will Smith is a top box office draw, with a superhero blockbuster coming out soon. Oprah is a force of nature at this point, beyond race. Every single cop show has either a black man or woman in positions of authority. Most judges on tv and in the movies are black – unless it’s a Southern white racist giving the protagonist a hard time, of course. There are tv shows about black families and black singles.

The other point of contention is that there is the assumption that if black people have to go out and make their own movies and tv shows then something is wrong. Apparently, it should be done for them. Never mind that every time the white man tries that we get cries of “you don’t understand and can’t do that”.

This is just more of the same race-baiting lie that the aggrieved race must be represented in equal numbers to white people, regardless of the reality of the country’s demographic. It’s just not realistic that there must be an equal amount of tv shows and films made entirely for black people, any more than it is for Jews or Chinese. Why should less than 12% of the population appear 50% of the time? Doesn’t this really discriminate against Hispanics and Asians and Subcontinentals?

Of course, that’s not important right now, as we’re discussing how awful and racist the US is. But the real shame is on the BBC for helping to spread falsehoods.

‘A senior Democratic senator on Tuesday admitted he was one of a number of Washington officials who were made members of a VIP programme by a leading mortgage provider but denied he knew this would secure him preferential treatment.’
‘Kent Conrad, another Democratic senator, on Tuesday told reporters that the Senate ethics committee was examining mortgages he had arranged with Countrywide after he admitted unwittingly receiving a preferential rate and briefly discussing his loan with Angelo Mozilo, Countrywide’s chief executive.’

I did find this: “Bush presents $3 trillion budget” http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/7226985.stm
‘Democrat Kent Conrad, chairman of the Senate Budget Committee, echoed the criticism’

and this: “Obama wins ex-rival’s endorsement” http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/7265492.stm
‘Mr Dodd said Mr Obama was “ready to be president”‘

JRSIHG – Interesting. I, too, immediately thought ‘John Reith’ when I read that response from ‘Anonymous’.

After all, who else has a team on hand to dig-up such a ‘D’ list of BBC celebrities?

‘it has emerged that Obama campaign staffers shooed two headscarf-wearing Muslim women out of view of the cameras at an Obamarama event in Detroit…no mention of it at all on the Al Beeboid website – proof that they fully intend to give Obama a free pass throughout this campaign.’

    Homer Simpson logic.

    Joel writes: “Homer Simpson logic.”

    Is it?

I’d have said it was potentially interesting.

Not to you BBC types, of course. That’s a given.

Joel: Just like when the US media was asking lots of questions about “Osama’s” relationship with a racist preacher (who is also a retard) and a convicted terrorist the BBC totally played it down.

I see the BBC are pumping out more horse shit as “facts” again (do they have a permanent connection to the sewage works?) about “Barack Osama” and campaign funding.

That dopey cow that reports from America just did a piece on News 24 and there is an article on the BBC news website.

We know that Osama promised to use public funding, but if you listen to the US media they were always convinced he didn’t want to use public funding as he knew he could raise million on his own.

However, the BBC makes and excuse for him. Although McCain will probably take public funding does the BBC give him credit? No way. The BBC makes out that McCain will have “other sources”. Read the last part of the BBC report.

“…But Mr McCain can draw on the deep pockets of the Republican National Committee, which has far more money than the Democratic National Committee, correspondents say…”

    What correspondents? What evidence?

and they turn the whole story to blame McCain for it.

On the News 24 report that stupid “Katy” bird said that Obama “needed” the money to fight the mighty Republican machine. What and the Democrats are not mighty? The Democrats have most of the US media behind them along with Hollywood.
