In case you missed them…
Guido has an amusing piece up on a surprising episode of Spooks. Shockingly, it goes some way towards reflecting reality – not a fundamentalist Christian terrorist or Mossad conspiracy in sight. As he says, it’s all a terrible disappointment: This is the BBC, we expect to be force fed left-wing platitudes and propaganda, not given a patriotic tear jerker.
Don’t get too excited, though. At the Three Line Whip, Iain Martin points us to this piece by Michael Gove, chastising the Beeb for sucking up to the Marxist historian Eric Hobsbawm.
Hmmmm….. expect this *single* episode to be hammered like a ten quid whore for the next five years every time anyone objects to the upcoming seventy five episodes in which an American billionaire called Joshua Goldblatt hires a bent copper to machine gun gay illegal immigrants as part of a plot to allow the Tories to dump nuclear waste in the Amazon rainforest.

“Marxist Historian” is a contradiction in terms. History is about facts, Marxism is about dogma. I tried to read Hobsbawm’s analysis of the Industrial Revolution and got about half way through before realising it illuminated nothing. I cannot remember a single thing in that book.
