You couldn’t really make it up!
Ben Stephenson, the BBC’s drama commissioning controller states unequivocally:
“We need to foster peculiarity, idiosyncrasy, stubborn-mindedness, left-of-centre thinking”.
Why? That’s not the job of an unbiased broadcaster, is it? But it is the mission of a profoundly compromised leftist dominated State monopoly. My thanks to Mr Stephenson for confirming that which we all know to be true – the BBC is institutionally biased and likely to get worse. Axe it.
(Hat-tip to all who sent me this! I have been so busy this is my first chance to blog it here!!)
Stevenson fits the Grauniad like a glove.

"Encourage left-of-centre thinking, says BBC drama boss"
"In a piece in today's Guardian, the BBC's drama commissioning controller Ben Stephenson writes the following:
"'We need to foster peculiarity, idiosyncrasy, stubborn-mindedness, left-of-centre thinking.'
"So there. Just in case you thought that the accusations against the BBC of a systemic political slant were overdone, we have it from one of the horses' mouths.
As I wrote yesterday over at Centreright, the political slant in the non-news output of the BBC is for many harder to detect but far more insidious, and damaging.
"Nevertheless it is still extraordinary to hear it stated so baldly in a national newspaper, although not for nothing is the BBC called the Guardian of the Airwaves.
"Jonathan Isaby at Conservativehome has asked for a retraction or apology. But this would get us precisely nowhere. The only way forward for many of us will be to follow Charles Moore's lead and refuse to pay the license fee. "

Classic works aside (and even they are carefully chosen and open to 'interpretation') the BBC's drama output is almost entirely Leftist as it is.
This quote certainly does need to go on the sidebar and it also needs to be brandished in the face of any BBC apologist who dares show his face here.

If they cared about drama, about what constitutes a life or an idea then it hardly helps if it fits into the culturally myopic, tried & tested, done before ad infinitum durge that has been produced before. It kind of beggars belief that in order to be 'cutting edge' or 'daring' that they re-hash crap. It takes a special kind of moronic arrogance to assume it can be beaten.
The sooner these chumps get privatized the better.

I do not believe it is an accident that the authors most associated with the Conservatives are Frederick Forsyth and Jeffrey Archer (what ever his failings as a politician his books are popular). The left gets Pinter and the BBC. Pinter may be a Nobel laureat but no one reads him (or watches his plays) for pleasure.
So the right give people what they (the people) want, the left give what they (the left wing "intelligensia") have decided the people ought to want.
As we see so often in other contexts; when my policies (books, plays, songs etc) are popular, that is democracy; when yours are popular, that is cynical populism.

Which would explain why Radio 4 regularly tells me that some author/songwriter/playwright I've never heard of (and was usually brought up in grinding poverty) has recently died.
