They’re only Republicans…

This comment was left on the blog of Radio 4’s PM programme (click image for larger version):

I responded in kind:

As I expected my message was removed very quickly (within ten minutes):

The comment from “alanparker” hoping for the death of “racist Republicans” Rush Limbaugh, Ann Coulter and Sarah Palin is still there.

Update. Somebody at the Beeb must be reading this blog – the “alanparker” comment has now been removed. Funny how it didn’t occur to the moderators to remove it at the same time as they took mine down.

    Hi DB,

I complained about alanparker’s post, on the grounds that wishing anyone dead because of their political views is offensive, and got the following reply:

    “Dear BBC blog reader,

Further to your complaint about some of the content on a BBC blog (reference number P26224286), we have decided that it does indeed contravene the House Rules and have removed the offending material.

Thank you for pointing this out to us.

    Best wishes,

    The BBC Blog Team”

So in this case, fair enough, the BBC have done the right thing.

The BBC Blog Team didn’t think to remove the alanparker comment at the same time as mine, even though I quoted it. Ideological blinkers, perhaps?

DB, yes, that may well be it. Quick to act against posts that don’t fit with their agenda but need to be prodded to remove offensive material that does. So maybe I was too quick off the mark with my “fair enough”.

What did you expect from the Bolshevik Broadcasting Corporation? They won’t do anything until the noise gets just loud enough at which point they purge anything to do with it and act like nothing’s happened. Or, they’ll go to court and spend hundreds of thousands of pounds of taxpayer’s money on keeping it suppressed a la the Balen Report.

Two wrongs are usually a poor way to highlight a right, but in this case the point is taken… and well made.

I am currently in an exchange with the ‘Complaint’ muppets about some ‘interesting’ moderation which, in the spirit of Douglas Adams, only the Hitchhikers Guide can explain:

    http://www.planetclaire.org/quotes/hitchhikers/

My problem is (as here) with the moderators allowing something clearly in breach to sail through first time unquestioned, then get checked and stuck back up (at least this one was pulled) when it was (by a few folk). Hence the value of any further time with them is past.

After several days of deep thought in Auntyville; the solution:… talk to the moderators.

Funny if it were not tragic.

But useful as I now, without their help, seek other, more senior and or exterior assistance/arbitration elsewhere. Armed with a level of incompetence and/or arrogance that might not serve them so well as the new public mood ceases to be so forgiving.

If this was 1938, the award would have gone to Neville Chamberlain for his intentions of World peace.

If you look on the reactions page, the only criticisms you’ll see is from Islamist groups. Not from Lech Walesa or the millions of ordinary people who think this is a moronic joke. No, no, the BBC implies that anyone who criticises this is little better than the Islamist groups we fight in Afghanistan.

    Wily bastards.

    THis has gone horribly wrong.
I can see a boardroom full of badly dressed liberals dreaming up the next BBC programme – “Strictly come Nobel”.
    Oh my Christ.

Don’t posts have to be referred first?

Both of them made it through pre-moderation, so I see no case

A Nobel for missing the point, and the Picard Prize thinking that what he sees makes things so, to that man!
