The One Show

Here’s One Show reporter Ellie Harrison sporting a CND T-shirt for a segment about new veterinary procedures on last night’s programme:

Hat tip to Dumb Jon, who wasn’t impressed with the show. I dare say he won’t be pleased to hear that Adrian Chiles will be presenting a late night spin-off called The Ten Show.

I thought beeboids were not supposed to wear clothes that showed a political bias?

Isn’t that the footprint of the American Chicken?

We have to keep our heads until this peace craze blows over…

I didn’t even know CND still existed, but trust the BBC to find one of their suppoerters !

Have you considered the possibility that Ellie Harrison is just too dumb to know? She probably has a cute ‘freedom scarf’ AKA keffiya in her drawer right next to the Che Guevara t-shirt she no longer wears. “That’s just too 2008”!

The directors/producers should have stopped her.

That would be my thought on the matter. The person who dresses her (probably called a Wardrobe Application Technician or something) for her TV work is probably a scary-looking dyke, Millie Tant lookalike.

I’m going to give Ellie the benefit of the doubt. Why? Because she’s hot, that’s why.

Of all the BBC’s output the One Show is a strong contender for the very worst. Does anybody take it and it’s presenters seriously? I agree with Deegee- she probably has no idea what the symbol means. Best ignored as should be the programme

As Deegee and Dave say – she probably doesn’t know, especially as it’s a popular symbol for peace, probably just a fashion thing, it’s quite common for trendy people to wear retro clothes – a few years ago it was those ‘cool’ che guevara drawings, I rarely met a person who understood even who he was, let alone his politics

If she’s an actual member of CND then there might be an issue

According to the biography on her website she studied geography at King’s College London “specialising in biogeography and third world political ecology”, but I concede that’s no guarantee that she isn’t an airhead (her pre-printed bio includes the line “Ellie grew up in living off the land in rural Gloucestershire” which suggests proofreading isn’t a strong point). If she really is unaware that it’s a CND symbol (and is everybody on the production team equally dumb?) then what we have is a vacuous right-on bimbo with the political maturity of a slightly rebellious 15-year-old employed as a reporter for a primetime current affairs magazine show. Oh well, that’s all right then.

What does living off the land mean in this case? Daddy is a rich farmer who sent me to public school so I stood a good chance of a job at the BBC?

Possibly. It wasn’t unusual for CND members to be well-heeled country types with too much time on their hands.

    it’s just a t-shirt.

Would it be just a t-shirt to the BBC if it had the a Swastika, a Star of David, the name of Allah, a black-face Minstrel or a Crusader Cross on it? Or would it be a firing offence?

I still stick with my she ‘didn’t know the significance’ speculation but that doesn’t make a television presenter wearing a shirt with an iconic symbol of a particular P.O.V. insignificant.

      • Tarquin says:

I would argue those things are far more obviously partisan – the symbol is an iconic peace sign around the world, with symbolism well outside the CND movement, it seems permissible to me

Or were you all waiting for Martin to say it first? 😉

    The question we should be asking is;
Would the bBC have allowed her to go on air if she had worn a Union flag T-shirt?
