Andrew Marr’s show on the BBC symbolises all that is wrong with the corporation. It has consistently been simpering and supine to Labour, and he makes David Frost, whom he replaced, look like a model of journalistic propriety. And now he has confirmed what an elitist, condescending piece of work he is. This is what he thinks of the blogsphere:

British journalist Andrew Marr has angered bloggers by suggesting they are “inadequate, pimpled and single.” Marr, was formerly the BBC’s political editor, also said that citizen journalism is “spewings and rantings of very drunk people late at night”. He made the comments at the Cheltenham Literary Festival, saying: “A lot of bloggers seem to be socially inadequate, pimpled, single, slightly seedy, bald, cauliflower-nosed young men sitting in their mother’s basements and ranting. They are very angry people.”

Sadly, Mr Marr’s outlook is patently shared by the entire £1bn leftist, moral relativist, elitist, eco-nut, anti-Jewish, anti-Christian, pro-Islam, pro-EU journalistic cadre at the BBC. It shows in the way they brook no dissent to their views and in how they so haughtily dismiss all those who dare to question them.

This is the organisation that has today also astonishingly and disgracefully handed a leaving package worth £4.7m to Mark Byford, the soon-to-be-redundant deputy director general. Everyone who has met Mark will – I am sure – share with me the sense of sheer amazement that such a without-talent individual should be worth so much of our money. But then, nothing is surprising in the Mickey Mouse world of BBCland.

  1. Tallfish Bob says:

I suspect that Marr is going to regret his words.

    • Backwoodsman says:

Agree with you there, Bob – after all, this is the man who went from  “unable to show me  ” ( examples of bbc bias) , to :
“The BBC is not impartial or neutral. It’s a publicly funded, urban organisation with an abnormally large number of young people, ethnic minorities and gay people. It has a liberal bias not so much a party-political bias. “
Whilst its good to see the wheels comming off this particular wagon, it is worth pointing out that in a private company , redundancy pay is based on a months salary per year of service.  Quite why do they think they are entitled to throw a £3million pension pot someones way ?

  2. RGH says:

    Thanks for the compliment, Marr.

The blogger as a phenomenon is getting under your skin.

Must be doing something right, then.

Blogs are a mirror, Mr Marr and reflect an image that you just don’t like.

The days of the cosy, one way steet are over. The top down world of BBC authority are over. Mr Marr, the days of condecension are gone.

It’s known as the right of reply.

    Get used to it.

    • Grant says:

My first thought as well. If bloggers are as bad as the odious Marr makes out , he would just ignore them.
Keep up the good work everyone !

    • Beware of Geeks Bearing GIFs says:

      Marr has form.

Was it not he that sought a D notice to prevent the press from revealing the fact that he and Alice Miles had an illegitimate child while he was married to Grauniad journalist Jackie Ashley?

Not surprised he fears the freedom of the blogs.

  3. It's all too much says:

I wonder how this rant from Marr sits with the BBC obsession with avoiding stereotyping.  So instead of angry bloggers (has he ever asked why political bloggers are so angry?)  What would have happened if he had said ‘feminists’,’anti-hunt protesters, ‘environmental activists’, ‘climate change protesters’,’anti racist protesters’, ‘Mohammedan protest groups’ etc

Marr has indulged in simple abuse based on a prejudice; I imagine the leftist firebrands of the union movement in the good old days were just as angry, single inadequate etc.  I think the leftists simply hate the fact that the blogsphere allows those whose opinions have been ignored to at least whine a bit on line.

Just for the record I am quite sober, I am not socially inadequate, I have no spots, I do not live in my mothers basement etc.  I consider myself an educated person who simply feels disenfranchised and silenced by a left lib orthodoxy imposed by modern puritans who will brook no dissenting voices.  Marr continues the behaviour of the trendy lefties at University who used to get really upset when anyone who wasn’t a marxist dared to speak

    • matthew rowe says:

      Brilliantly put I.A.T.M.!

    • Grant says:

      Excellent !

    • james1070 says:

I think Marr is on the way down in the BBC. He is loosing ground to Nick Robinson, who is bald and has a blog.

I forsee that Marr will end up like Nicholas Witchell doing news reports from Afghanistan.  The BBC must really hate Nicholas Witchell

      • james1070 says:

Ha ha, just found out,  Nicholas Witchell is the BBC’s Royal correspondant, what the hell is he doing in suicide bombers alley.

      • Natsman says:

I believe the mad Prince of Wales and his parents are none too impressed with Witchell, either…

        • Grant says:

Witchell is a firm believer in the existence of the Loch Ness monster and even wrote a book about it. He is a nutter !

      • Olly boy says:

Preferably Marr doing news reports from Afghanistan wearing a fluorescent jacket with a picture of Mohammed on the back….

    • Cassandra King says:

Think this brilliant post qualifies as post of the month? I reckon it vies for post of the year myself!

Marr eat your heart out, he couldnt post like this to save his life.

The Devil’s Knife has a nice rant,

  7. David Jones says:

    And Richard North

  8. FrankFisher says:

Well he’s partly right – I am angry.

  9. Grant says:

If it wasn’t for bloggers we wouldn’t know about Marr’s illegitimate child with Alice Miles. Maybe he is the one who is angry !

  10. NotaSheep says:

A lot of bloggers seem to be:
    ‘socially inadequate’ – Not Guilty
‘pimpled’ – Not for many years
    ‘single’ – Happily married
‘slightly seedy’ – Not sure how to react to this one, what is ‘slightly seedy’? Would Andrew Marr’s definition of ‘slightly seedy’ include  having a …. with a …. who ….  and then trying to hide ….  with a super-….?
    ‘bald’ – Well, balding
‘cauliflower-nosed’ – What is a cauliflower nose? I have heard of boxers having cauliflower ears but never noses. Is this some drugs reference?
    ‘young men’ – Middle aged
‘sitting in their mother’s basements’ – Normally in bedroom, sitting room or office
‘ranting’ – I try not to rant but maybe expressing views contrary to Andrew marr is classified by him as ranting?
‘They are very angry people.’ – Guilty as charged

  11. TrueToo says:

That’d be the same Mark Byford who was, “Immensely proud” (or words to that effect) that the BBC had interviewed the Taliban.
There are plenty parallels between the BBC and the elite of your average basket-case third world dictatorship:
    *Bloated and unaccountable
*A jobs-for-pals setup and only from one tribe
*Jobs for life, including friends and family
*Golden nest eggs based on connections, not merit
*Exploitation through unfair taxation of a long-suffering public

*Ability to throw people who wont succumb to the system into jail
*And, of course, propaganda through omission and distortion of news

  12. JohnW says:

OK, drunk, I’ll give him – but not every night. I’ve been a good boy – I stopped spewing way back in my formative drinking years. I only suffer that malaise when I have to endure the sickening arrogance of Marxist Marr and his ilk at the BBC.

As for the single bit, well that was a while back too – long before the wife and six kids took up residence above the basement.

Anyway, i definitely am very angry, especially as the wife has tidied up my little den and now I can’t find my pimple cream. Now where did I put it…

  13. Martin says:

    So let’s stereotype the BBC
    1. Gay
    2. Leftie
    3. White
    4. Camp
    5. Middle class
    6. Jew hater
    7. Muslim lover
    8. Drug addict
    9. Hate the white working class
    10. Never had a real job.

  17. DP111 says:

In a recent speech in NY Tony Blair gives an indication thatv all ay not be what appears in the RoP

The former prime minister said that there had been a failure to challenge the ‘narrative’ that Islam was oppressed by the West which was fuelling extremism around the world.

He said too many people accepted the extremists’ analysis that the military actions taken by the West following the 9/11 attacks were directed at countries because they were Muslim and that it supported Israel because Israelis were Jews while Palestinians were Muslims. ‘We should wake up to the absurdity of our surprise at the prevalence of this extremism,’ Mr Blair said

’Look at the funds it receives. Examine the education systems that succour it. And then measure, over the years, the paucity of our counter-attack in the name of peaceful co-existence. We have been outspent, outmanoeuvred and out-strategised.’

The BBC hates Tony Blair for intervening in Iraq and Afghanistan, they will now hate him even more. In fact Tony Bair is a strong advocate of intervention in Iran, which goes against Obama’s policy.
The most charitable one can be about BBC journalists is that they are childish.Their education and knowledge in a subject that can be quantified, such as Maths or Physics, is basically at the level of an average 10 year old. For these people to be given the power to pontificate worldwide, on matters of such complexity as Climate, is absurd.

    • prpw says:

Yes Blair’s recent speech in NY was widely reported in the US news media and on several US-based geopolitical blogs but strangely unreported / suppressed by Matty Boy Frei, Mark Mardell and the rest of the intellectually dishonest crew who form the BBC’s US `coverage’

  18. james1070 says:

Blogs must be a problem for the BBC; all the most interesting News stories are highlighted on blogs and are censored on the BBC. Two recent examples are the 10:10 advert and the speech by Katharine Birbalsingh. And the BBC only grudgingly covered Dan Hannans’ put down only a year back. The BBC never breaks stories, for example they were slow on the Expenses Scandal. Or are quick to self-criticise as in Sachsgate. All BBC journalism consists of is using the Reuters wire and then plagiarizing its content.

The main news on the BBC is being used to promote opinion and a Marxist outlook not facts, how many times have you heard the phrase about an illegal immigrant “he came here for a better life” or a member of the Religion the Peace ” they had been radicalised”.

Finally the BBC News has increasingly become a medium for advertising, especially its own products and stars. When I see on the news, a section with David Tennant talking about Doctor Who or Mark Kermode bigging up a BBC made film, that nobody will go see, I think what’s the point of a TV license, you have advertising, and I still believe that product placement is still illegal, but you are allowed to use it on the 6 O Clock News?

    • prpw says:

Spot on James – the Internet and blogs are a big problem for the likes of Marr and Nick Robinson because free flow of information exposes the BBC’s bias, incompetence, suppression of `inconvenient’ stories and lack of value-added content.

Thanks to the Internet the crap jobs these BBC posers generally do is increasingly understood, and their ability to act as `gatekeepers’ to information is vastly reduced.

  19. Ian E says:

Does Marr have any evidence for his bigoted rants?  I am personally aware of no bloggers who satisfy his description (other than the ‘angry’ – and if you aren’t angry at the moment, you aren’t alive!).

Such an attack surely requires that he produce his evidence!

Would he dare attack other minority groups in this way, I wonder, e.g. lesbians, gays, beeboids? And is this group that he attacks a less worthy group of citizens: are they perhaps sub-humans who should be put in zoos to be gawked at rather than listened to? Shouls all unmarried pimplys be shot perhaps for the greater good?

It is clearly an utterly appalling, irrational, hate-filled attack on any and all who disagree with his odious world view.  I think still less of Marr following this outburst – like the BBC license fee/tax, he must go!

  20. DP111 says:

Ian E  wrote: Does Marr have any evidence for his bigoted rants?

Yes. Richard North has photographic evidence here

  21. DP111 says:

And a comment by Fed Up

Was he looking in the mirror when he said this…the man is as ugly as his mind…..this is the same person that wore a Lenin cap to distribute communist literature at university, around the campus.

This at a time when the Gulag was the one industry in the USSR that was a going concern.

I think I have been unfairly stigmatising 10 year olds. My sincere apologies. One has to be a total idiot to to support an ideology as evil as Marxism.

For idiocy, there is no age limit – upper or lower, and there is no cure.

  22. Grant says:

Of course, Marr could be pretty sure that most of the audience at a “literary festival” would agree with him. Bunch of clones. They probably even paid to listen to that numpty’s drivel.

  23. dave s says:

Marr can safely be ignored. The libbie “elite” does not possess the ruthlessness to shut us up. They would dearly love to do so but are just not up to it.
Their sleepless nights are only just beginning.

  24. sue says:

The ability to blog anonymously, if we want to, gives us the freedom to say things we might otherwise be reluctant to say. So we can’t really complain if someone like Andrew Marr hits back at us with a jibe that we can’t disprove without losing that freedom.
I don’t really care whether he thinks of me as all those things, as long as I know that I’m not. Well, hardly any. But for all anyone knows, I might be all of them.

All it says is that Andrew Marr feels threatened, and if he can’t deal with what bloggers say, he’ll try to discredit the lot with this silly nonsense.
I’ll just wipe the tears away from my cauliflower nose, and press on with the blogging.

Blogging (and the internet in general):

  32. Asuka Langley Soryu says:

Why would someone that professes to be a journalist be so afraid of something, the blogosphere, that presents the best and brightest potential for journalism? Because Andrew Marr isn’t a journalist. He’s a propagandist. Plus, he’s uglier than a vagina covered in herpes sores.
I also find it ironic that the phrase ‘sitting in your mother’s basement doing X’ was probably coined in the comments sections of…a weblog.

    • Martin says:

He’s a propagandist. Plus, he’s uglier than a vagina covered in herpes sores.

Cheers for that, I nearly threw my dinner back up
