My beloved niece is on her honeymoon in Hawaii at the moment. She’s never been to Asia before.

Her newly-minted husband, amusingly as part of a toast to me (which I’ve been laughing about ever since), praised Barack Obama at the reception. As he serves in the Royal Navy and is fiercely pro-American, I forgive him.

Remind me, is Hawaii the 57th state? Maybe Barry was getting it mixed up with Indonesia, an easy mistake to make when you are not sure where you came from, what your name is or what religion you are.

What a shock: Mardell censored the gaffe.  Instead, he calls him “the Pacific president”.  YCMIUP, FFS.

Check out the picture of Australian PM Gillard patting Him on the backside.  Ooh, Mardell, you card.

Mardell knows all about the gaffe, which makes it all the more laughable that he writes this while ignoring it:

Born on America’s Pacific Islands, raised for a time in Indonesia, President Obama is of course more likely be a Pacific President than the transtlanticists of the past, whose ancestors came from Europe, the continent which once defined and dominated the whole world.

The BBC’s US President editor hard at work.  Additionally at your expense, the BBC produced two other features to get His message out.  The UK branch of the White House press office is on the job.

That Obama Hawaii speech in full:

“Seems like my errm, ahh, teleprompter isn’t here so , ahhhm, er, ah … I’d like to thank you for welcoming me to this, er, ahh, um… give me a second now… I know you’re fired up [silence] … erm… welcoming me… thank you for welcoming me here to the erm… 57th state of Asia.. erm… especially you corpse men… uhhm, unfortunately I don’t speak Austrian.. but erm I would like to say erm, I know you all take the threat of Teutonic shifts in your stride every day and erm, ahh, I’m sure we can all deal with the Teutonic shifts in international affairs in 2008 too. Erm. Thank you. [Band begins Aloah Oe] Umm.. God save the Queen. “

Any chance that the Beeb will one day reveal that Hawaii has never legally been part of the US? This British protectorate – whose flag still has the Union Jack in its top left quadrant – was nicked by the Yanks in the nineteenth century. Legally then, even if Barack Osama really was born in Hawaii, there’s no way that he can be called an American citizen. Which in turn means he’s not the lawful president, as you have to be an American citizen to be one. I look forward to an impartial documentary on this matter soon….
