Life In These United States – No. 5

It’s time for another one. This one lasts 16:15.  I try to keep them down to 15 minutes, but I don’t have the benefit of all those BBC editors and producers.

As always, it’s meant to be a rebuttal to BBC coverage.

David, the imminent bankruptcy of California seems to be a perennial problem. I seem to have been reading about this for decades. Why do the residents keep voting for socialists? I’m amazed that many affluent people continue to live there. Is it because of the weather or is there more to it than that? And, are the bbc well-thought of by the Californians in general, or is there a vociferous socialist minority who laud this organ of left-wing propaganda?

‘Is it because of the weather?’
Once when working over there the topic of the prevalence of ‘interesting’ crime came up, and someone wondered why much seem centered on the West Coast. One the group suggested: ‘Hey, just because you are crazy doesn’t mean you don’t go and practice your craft where the sun shines more’.
And I thought it was only happiness that was solar-powered.

I have no idea what Californians in general think of the BBC, but I suspect it’s similar to the rest of the US: we like Dr. Who, Top Gear, Being Human, sitcoms from the early 90s (plenty of that on PBS) and think all that stuff with Gordon Ramsey swearing is also BBC because that’s how it’s sold to us. Nobody really has any idea about what BBC News gets up to, most don’t even know it exists.

I’m sure there are people in LA and San Francisco who watch BBC World News America on their local PBS station – at least retirees and a few other people who are home by 5pm each day.

California is filled with people who vote with their emotions and not their brains, has been for a long time. The non-whites are generally stuck on the Democrat plantation as well, and so on and on it goes.

David, at your prompting I went to the White House website and looked at the Obama spin on past presidents. It is silly beyond words. Trying to brag about his achievements by sitting on giant’s shoulders.
But did you see Obama’s addition to the George W Bush bio. Iraq? Iran? Economics? Nope. You’re not going to believe this, folks, its hilarious!

“In 2002, President George W. Bush’s State of the Union was the first to be live broadcast on the Internet. In 2011 and 2012, President Obama’s State of the Union speeches were available in an enhanced live stream version and featured infographics, charts and data side-by-side in real time with the President’s speech.”

Wow! “My broadcast was better than his broadcast. Nah nah nah nah nah”

Well, following the White House’s example I give you my own addition to a famous bio:

“In 1505, Michelangelo was invited to Rome and commissioned to paint the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel, which took approximately four years to complete. Nearly 1500 years later Louis Robinson completed the task he set himself of painting the cistern in the chapel – and it took half an hour.”

Obama is a joke! (PS Must read is Ed Klein’s new book “The Amateur”.)

His entire staff is a joke. This is what an arrogant sense of entitlement and moral superiority gets you.
