Hi folks, good to be back! Anyway, I know it’s a biased source in itself, but I was watching an interesting RT news feature yesterday that combined several voices of concern over the nature of the BBC’s hysterical and one-sided reporting of the Syria conflict. There were some pretty big hitters on the program who were condemning what they see as an outright agenda by the BBC to hardwire opinion into supporting the ‘Free Syrian Army’. There was widespread criticism over the BBC’s use of completely unverified Youtube videos, further condemnation of the constant use of the term ‘regime’ which has far-reaching and pejorative connotations and bemoaning over the BBC’s complete lack of analysis regards the composition of the rebel forces; in other words it was a complete damnation of the BBC’s coverage.
Would like to hear others’ opinions on this because , I for one, have been shocked by the complete lack of BBC airplay given to the Syrian Government forces and the religious minorities and sects who’ve expressed fear over the consequences of Assad falling. Does anyone agree that the have been appallingly biased in its reporting of the conflict?
Could BBC bias be attributed to the old socialist and politically correct principles of minority/struggle = good but power/majority = bad? I certainly think so.
My take is that the BBC has to have ‘good’ and ‘bad’ guys in every conflict – could it be because they always have to have ‘a view to take’? The possibility that both the Assad government and the Free Syrian Army could both be bad guys is not an angle that the BBC could even contemplate.
I have no problem with the word regime meaning simply a government in power. If it has negative connotations, that’s fine with me. We are talking about Assad, after all.
In Syria, there is a battle between the good and the worse. We haven’t decided which is which even if the BBC has.
Personally, I’d rather hedge my bets on Assad staying put (thug though he is) than have al-Qaeda and the Muslim Brotherhood in power.
We must not ignore the possibility that the Assad regime is, as was its previous practice, restricting all media access. The rebel forces are far more media savvy. Or at least their Turkish and American advisers are.
Just as INBBC got it wrong with ‘Arab Spring’ (Islamic Winter), so too it gets it wrong in supporting the violent Sunni Muslim opposition in Syria.
Is it that the main political faction which the left-Islamic alliance at INBBC supports is that of the Sunni opposition in Syria, where some Muslims who occasionally use Britain as their base are currently operating?

Did anyone catch the Global Warming missionary Kate Rawles ( yes, this one: http://www.moonbattery.com/archives/2008/03/confirmed_globa_1.html ) given free rein to plug her book on (that turgid backwater of ideological twaddle which is) Woman’s Hour today? She really is the living embodiment of the whole anti-technology, anti-progress and, frankly, anti-human environazi who wants you to stop driving your car, stop taking holidays, sit in the dark and shiver in the winter – all so that she can feel a warm glow of self-righteousness. There was, of course, no challenge to her green sermon; though I know its hard to argue with missionaries!
Meanwhile, in the real world, the average life expectancy of a human has increased by 10 years, and the number of infants dying before their fifth birthday has fallen from 134 per thousand to 58 – all in the last 40 years! Thanks to…? Well, what do you know! Economic development and (gasps!) technology! Apparently, this is a bad thing according to the greens and if you don’t think so then tough – its not up for discussion. If you don’t agree then you must be a “denier” and not worthy to be listened to.
And another thing (whilst I’m in ranting mode!), does the BBC run workshops in How to Ask the Loaded Question? Jenni Murray is an expert in this; by the time she has finished asking her question, you know EXACTLY the answer she wants/expects to hear!
Being a Man, I do not listen to Women’s Hour. But if the BBC interviewed the French-Canadian feminist writer Donna Laframboise, about her book “The Delinquent Teenager Who Was Mistaken for the World’s Top Climate Expert”, I would. But I doubt anyone at the BBC has the intelligence to understand the contents of the book.

At every turn the eco-nuts quote the potential output as if it were actual. Instead of ‘average’ outputs there should be a measure of how much power these windmills produce on demand!
Very entertaining BBC article about how the foolish US policy of forcing 40% of all corn grown in the country to be “dirty corn” used for biofulels has become a dangerous obstacle to responding to temporary crop reduction in feed/food corn.

Due to this recent drought in the Midwest, crop yields are down to the lowest levels in more than 15 years. Because we have this moronic policy of forcing….sorry….encouraging farmers (read: conglomerates and wealthy chancers) to spend so much time and effort on dirty corn for biofuels that we no longer have the buffer for situations like this. I was quite entertained to see the Beeboids who put this together (it’s unsigned, but it’s probably a more senior figure like Steve Kingstone and a News Online editor) dance around the truth behind the story. Darcey Bussell could have learned a couple moves from this.
Oh, sure, the article is full of accuracy. It’s accurate about the basics of the policy, accurate about the official Obamessiah Administration’s defense of the policy that fuel independence is vital for our security, etc. It’s equally accurate about this being criticized by the UN. Which, of course, is why the BBC is spending a little effort here to report it.
Spot the Missing Presidents, though. This is so hilarious. The BBC mentions in the last section that one of the reasons for this ridiculous policy is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. But when was the law put into place? George Bush signed it into law in 2005. Funny how the BBC misses an opportunity to show that he did something that seems to be harming the world. Of course, since he did it because of an approved thought – Warmism – no scorn is forthcoming.
Now that the policy is obviously a dangerous one, the current President is also absent from the scene. We do get an accurate quote from the Sec. of Agriculture about how brilliant the policy is. When I say “accurate”, though, I mean that the BBC is quoting him accurately, not that what he’s saying is completely true. Which it ain’t. Supposedly blending ethanol (produced from dirty corn) with gasoline would lead to lower gas prices at the pump. Bzzzzt: wrong, thank you for playing. Because ethanol has a crappier net energy yield, blended fuel has a lower MPG, which means we spend more which means even the New York Times has to admit it’s not so beneficial after all.
The BBC, of course, will admit no such thing. That would damage the Agenda. Instead, they accurately report that it’s controversial. Speaking of the Agenda, funny how the BBC misses an opportunity to connect the current drought with AGW. If they did, though, they’d have to also acknowledge that a Warmist policy is actually not the correct response to Global Warming. The cognitive dissonance is just too much to bear.
What about the current President, though? Is he going to save us? Who knows? The man in charge is absent from the crisis as usual. The Teleprompter hasn’t told Him what to say yet so we just get the spin from the AgSec.

Yes, I value B-BBC highly and I think you are all doing an extremely worthwhile job. However, that is completely beside the point.
My point is a technical one – and given all the blackouts you have suffered an irrefutable one: the site is technically substandard.
I write it again: TECHNICALLY.
Out of the box, WordPress works extremely well. However, you seem to have some plugins and own code that make the whole thing instable.
You need to fix this. Patting yourselves on the back – compliments all round – for getting the site back online when it is still throwing unacceptable errors for visitors shows a false sense of security.
It will give me no pleasure to come back after your next outage – and there will be one, sooner rather than later – and tell you I told you so.

As predicted above, no sooner has Rep. Paul Ryan been named Romney’s running mate than the BBC gets the knives out for him. The first words out of Mark Mardell’s mouth have negative connotations, and are immediately followed by the White House propaganda line on Ryan.
.BBC North America editor Mark Mardell says the decision is a bold and ideological choice.
The Obama campaign said Mr Ryan stood for “flawed” economic policies that would repeat “catastrophic” mistakes.
This is why I call Mardell the BBC’s US President editor. He knows all too well that Ryan’s economic prowess scares the living hell out of the Obamessiah Campaign. He can’t even allow a single word about Ryan’s background or credentials before rolling out the attack points from the White House. Sad.
And the BBC News Online editor even gets in a mention of the little Romney gaffe:

Analysts say Mr Romney needs to regain momentum after a series of pro-Obama campaign advertisements attacking his record.
Which have backfired spectacularly. The Obamessiah Campaign has had to scramble to backtrack on the sick ad falsely blaming Romney for a steelworker’s wife dying of cancer, Senate leader Harry Reid’s unsubstantiated rumor about Romney not paying taxes, and only yesterday the new bogus claim about tax dodging.
Of course, the BBC has censored all news of it, so their regular audience would have no idea.
This careful elision of reality allows the BBC to get away with such awful partisan behavior.
Of course, what the BBC really, really doesn’t want you to know is that, while Ryan has solid fiscal bona fides, the Congress which was controlled by Democrats for two years, and is still blocked by the Democrat-led Senate and the looming Veto Pen of the United States has not passed a real budget (except for that Stimulus, which kinda sorta counts because it allocates spending) the entire time He’s been in office. This is madness – it’s like we’re worse than Belgium, FFS – but Mardell twists Ryan’s credentials:
Mr Ryan is best-known for a controversial alternative budget which he produced to counter President Obama’s plans in 2011 and 2012.
It’s only “controversial” because the President didn’t like it, but that’s good enough for Mardell. The House passed it.
The last three paras are also White House attack points. So predictable, BBC. Your license fee hard at work, promoting the political agenda of the leader of a foreign country.
The way that quote is presented “Prompting one of the loudest cheers from onlookers….” is designed to reinforce the view of Britain’s LeftyMetroSexuals (the entire on screen staff of the BBC) that America is dominated by foaming at the mouth, religious fundamentalist, nutters.
Speaking as a resolute atheist, it doesn’t disturb me at all. That is because America was and is the most powerful nation on earth and managed to get into that position despite being “hobbled” by conservative Christians. A republican who mentions the Christian god is regarded as “extreme” or border line mentally ill, yet someone who has to kneel on a mat facing Mecca, makes his wife (or wives) wear a black sack and believes that homosexuals should be stoned to death, amongst other culturally rich ideas, is a not only a diamond geezer but anyone who disagrees is a racist requiring a long prison term. Is it just me, or are this year’s Proms overwhelmingly fully of Youth orchestras and choirs? Don’t get me wrong: youth orchestras at this level are capable on any given day of some quite fine, workman-like performances, and occasionally even excellent ones. But seriously, is this the best use of what little bit of the license fee the evil Tories haven’t taken away?
Yes, I realize that at least a couple of ensembles have already been doing summer tours or whatever with a mix of the pros and elevated youth musicians, but such gig bands are not the best recipe for highly polished, nuanced performances which make for the best kind of Proms.
I’m not so excited about the overall programming, either. The late night ones seem more interesting than the main events. Admittedly, there have been a few decent premieres and interesting works, but overall it’s not that interesting. And Barenboim’s whole mannered Beethoven cycle with his mixed Semite band is there for the political points way beyond the musical quality.
I’ve had a look. And as far as I can see, it’s just you. C’mon David, you are better than this.
Well, that’s the impression I got the past week. I admit I haven’t scanned the entire schedule, but every time I looked recently to see what was on, it was a Youth something or other, or Youth involved.
I stand by my Barenboim comment, though.
Just watched Cairngorms: A Year in the Wild, a documentary about the area, it’s forests, animals, birds and the people who make a living there including a painter, writer, climber, fisherman and gamekeeper. There was wonderful, breathtaking scenery, understated narration and oddly (for the beeb) no axe to grind. See, they can do it.

This goes against nearly everything they believe: Israel controls the whole thing, Gaza is oppressed due to the Jewish Lobby controlling the US Government to keep the payoffs to Egypt going in order to maintain peace with Israel, Hamas is a heroic resistance group, etc.
Egypt may hate Jews and think they want a stupid war with Israel, but they definitely see Hamas and the problem children in Gaza for who they really are.
I wish that old BBC contract producer who used to debate here as “John Reith” could see this now. The cognitive dissonance would be so amusing.
Am i the only one that picks up on bbc Northern Ireland news readers,presenters that constantly refer to “derry” if its to do with a “good news” story, but the full title “LondonDerry” only if its a “bad” news story ?

As the new chap now in charge gets to grips with the Radio serial, and it’s not too difficult to understand that he came hot-foot from BBC’s tv Eastenders given the current story lines.
As Ambridge (or should we now say Arsebridge ?) decends into a homosexual paradise, most of us on here won’t be surprised.
However, what about that great chunk of ratings aka Middle England listeners make of it all ?
Well my best guess is that it won’t be going down too well.
Furthermore I don’t think the BBC will give a fuck what the Archers audience think anyhow.
The “new guy in charge” (actually called John York) was only keeping the seat warm while editor Vanessa Whitburn took a short leave of absence.
And the “homosexual paradise” currently has the village’s lone gay couple struggling with issues of career and fidelity. Much like every other couple in soap history. And rather more air time has been given to the unexpected pregnancy if an older couple.
It does seem that “johnyork” is rather more occupied by thoughts of things homosexual than he cares to admit.

We had the three way love triangle between Adam, Ian and Pavél followed up with Harry being reunited with Grant.
So in the space of a 12 minute episode 5 homosexuals “starred”, not 2.
Erm, of those five, two were referenced in the third person. Harry has been written out, and Grant has never appeared in The Archers.
If you think that’s “starring”, you must be deranged.
Just saw the closing credits of the BBC’s Olympics coverage (prior to the Closing Ceremony, which hopefully will be less overtly left-wing than the Opening Ceremony). Lots of shots of our athletes winning medals – but what did they set it to?

I went to watch the boxing last night, the first fight was a Thai against a Chinese boxer. The Chinese boxer was roundly booed – why? Because he’s Chinese and we don’t like them.

Overall I quite enjoyed the olympics closing ceremony – too long of course, and all the acts should have kept to one track or a medley to avoid overstaying their welcome (eg. George Michael) but the biggest gripe for me was the trio of commentators talking all over Elbow’s performance of ‘One Day like this’ – with a load of mindless chatter about medal totals. Atrocious. Of course they kept silent for the repeat of that dreadful one direction song.
Back on the subject of bias, I noticed a roving BBC news reporter rather crudely implementing Helen Boaden’s anti-patriotic directive: after talking to a crowd of enthusiastic team GB supporters she cut away almost embarrassed at their support for the home team – and instead decided to interview herself by making a silly speech about how many different nations supporters were also there. Pathetic.
The ‘Today’ programme was at the top of its game this morning. No sooner had Naughtie closed on Blair holding forth on multiculturalism with “thank you Tony Blair”, Davis immediately follows with “arctic ice is melting faster than ever before”.
Beautiful stuff, real artists at work. There’s no stopping them – unfortunately…

Greenland Ice Sheet May Slow Its Melting Quicker Than Expected
While satellites have confirmed that Greenland has lost a significant part of its ice sheet, a recent study in Science indicates that the ice sheet may be able to slow its melting much quicker than previously thought.
Kurt Kjær of the University of Copenhagen and his Danish colleagues have used aerial photos of the ice sheet, dating back to the early ’80s, to compare episodes of rapid melting in the last few decades.
Oops.
The researchers discovered that the ice sheet is a dynamic environment, able to shift quickly form melting to holding firm. The record melt we’ve seen this year could be over in about eight years. This could imply that using the current speed of melting as part of an assumption when trying to predict the sea level rise in the coming century is flawed.
Gee, ya think? I’m sure Harrabin or Black will rush right over to report this. It’s from Science mag, a highly-respected publication with Warmist leanings. Can’t dismiss this one as being paid for by Big Oil or whatever.
Quasi-Conservative David Frum on Today discussing how wrong and risky picking Paul Ryan is for Romney. What a joke.
First of all, Frum’s political leanings (claims to be a Conservative, used to work for Bush, but is basically the Left’s go-to guy when they want a Conservative to bash other Conservatives), are not identified. Evan Davis introduced him as being from the Daily Beast, which is not labeled as Left-wing.
But really there’s no reason to listen to Frum here. He says Ryan somehow changes the campaign focus from the President’s economic management to other issues.
What? And just what does he think Ryan has been talking about the last four years? Did Frum listen to the speech excerpt they played before introducing him?
Worse, he extrapolates from figures that only 3 million people regularly watch cable news channels to saying that the rest of the country is non-ideological, so don’t listen to polls that say we’re all as awful as Davis thinks.
As for risky, I guess the thousands of people flocking to see Ryan over the weekend just don’t get it, eh, BBC? The attacks on Ryan continue.

As you say – typical of the BBC to interview that creep David Frum without labelling him as a RINO. The BBC NEVER goes to solid right journalists.
Ryan as VP candidate puts much more emphasis on the direction of the economy and the catastrophic trajectory of public spending. What Frum said was utter nonsense.
Ryan also adds youth to the ticket – he makes Obama look pretty doddery, and Joe Foot-in-Mouth-Biden now looks prehistoric.
And Ryan clearly needles Obama.
