Wonder what you make of this news?
“Sebastian Coe is today being urged to step down from some of his current work commitments if he wants the role of BBC Trust chairman. The former track star and London 2012 chief is the frontrunner to replace Lord Patten, who stood down three weeks ago after heart surgery. However, MPs are today urging Lord Coe to step down from some of his 20 other jobs to dedicate his time to the demanding role.”
If I may re-post from earlier, maybe an insider view can offer insight:

‘Today’s publication of the ad for BBC Chairman gives a timetable for the process (or “charade”, as it will be known if Lord Coe turns up)’
Only 20 jobs currently. Kind of puts those juggled by Lord Patten in the shade. By what, 100%? Not like getting ‘rewarded’ to do all them prevented him really giving oversight of a £4Bpa national policy club the very best of his time.

Seems those within are really not keen. Can’t say I blame them, if for other reasons.

I’d have thought another ineffectual notional Tory would be just what the balance genie ordered. All the offset; no actual impact.
Must confess that it was not until now that I learned there was yet another from the Lab/BBC/Graun set of happy families in the form of Jon H’s apparent partner. Spares him having to read the paper for leads, one supposes.

Abolish it . The Trust that is. It serves no possible useful function and costs taxpayers money to run.
The day after abolition the sun will still rise.
Lord Coe has plenty to occupy him.
