The current situation in the Middle East must be confusing for Beeboids: With Iran supporting Assad against ISIS and Al Qaeda. I mean, they all hold BBC approved views: hatred of the West, hatred of capitalism and hatred of Israel. The BBC would like to support both sides in this conflict and wishes its friends would just stop fighting each other.

The video is working for me now (at least in a technical sense).

These are the last images Hadi Baghbani filmed. Is it politically incorrect to say ‘good riddance’?

One thing that was apparent until ambiguously brought up ⅔ of the way in and again in the last minute was the hesitance to accept the religious imperatives of Iranian interference in Syria. Iran is not, as implied, supporting Assad because Assad Snr. gave it some minor support in its war with Saddam Hussein. Iran supports Syria because it sees Assad’s Alawite sect as Shiite.

There is some dispute about the accuracy of this claim. Some Muslims see the Alawites as heretics because they accept a prophet after Mohammed. Others see them as not Muslim, at all. This is a very dangerous position for the Alawites to be in and Iranian religious support before the war was almost as important as Iranian financial and military support.

Iran’s military support of Shiite, although Arab, Hezbollah depends on a corridor for arms, fuel and cash through Syria. This is a good, although unmentioned, additional tactical reason, way beyond gratitude for Iran to support Assad.
