WEEKEND OPEN THREAD

I have been away and been very busy so hence lack of activity here! Anyhow, here’s a thread for the weekend. Wonder if the BBC have discovered that it was a Muslim that cut the pensioners head off in London?  They seem more concerned about the CAT.

In the event of a ‘yes’ vote in Scotland, would the government make it a condition of Scottish independence that Scotland is willing to pay its fair share of Britain’s national debt?

If so, who would have the final say on how much Scotland owes?

Those are crucial questions, to which I (a voter in Scotland) can’t find the answer.

I think that the BBC should be telling me whether there would be anything to stop an independent Scotland from walking away from its fair share of the national debt.

Maybe they know that there is nothing to stop Salmond screwing over the rest of the UK if he doesn’t get the currency union he wants, and they don’t want to publicise it too much.

If they want the license fee to persist in an independent Scotland, it makes sense not to bite the hand that feeds…

      • Jeff Waters says:

It could screw over both Scotland and the rest of the UK.

It seems to me that Scotland aren’t just voting on whether to divorce the UK. They are voting on whether to divorce the UK and walk away from the debt built up on the joint credit card. For that reason, I think that the rest of UK should have a vote on Scottish independence (either that, or Scotland should only be allowed to go independent on the condition that they honour their debts).

Yes, a bit more fresh shelling and if the other side responds, it could move from near collapse to a possible breach.

Only the BBC would tell us about the conclave that gave us the new leader of Al Shabab.
No Peter Snow or EU rapporteurs there to see if the vote was fair or not…no breathless BBC hacks there to check that postal vote from their fellow democrats in Somalia?…but there you are…the black smoke emerged and the BBC were able to name the “new man”.
No all women shortlist then I take it?
Cue serious faces from the BBC at the news…apparently, the last chap happened to be under some leaflet drone drop, so is now with his 72 eunuchs in Perry Barr.
    So sad!
Let`s hope he gets his G8 summit meeting soon, Stonehenge for the New Stone Age eh Mo?
The BBc also tells us that Qatada used his courtroom dock to say that journalist should not be separated from their heads…for they are…”messengers of the truth”.
At least Feargal, Donni, Orla etc can now get a reference…after all the ones they`ve given HIM, that would be only “appropriate”

I can’t imagine that the “Week in Westminster” is high on anyone’s Radio4 listening priorities, but the words “my head’s pretty swollen” were actually mouthed by the “controversial” Respect MP Sheikh al Galloway towards the end of the program on Saturday.
Unfortunately, George had not reached new heights of self-knowledge, but was whining about being attacked recently.
Apparently, he now wants a police bodyguard. Rather like Rushdie some years ago. But didn’t Galloway spend years on PressTV acting as a propaganda orifice for the Mad Mullahs who issued the Fatwa against Rushdie? Rushdie may well still be alive but his Japanese translator, for example, was stabbed to death by a Muslim lunatic. This interesting background was, of course, not mentioned by the interviewer. The interviewer seemed to be of the “nice but dim” variety.
Galloway also felt hurt that none of his fellow MPs, except of course the Lucas woman, had sent messages wishing a speedy recovery.

It’s human nature to want to go with the crowd – we are herding animals.

Therefore, if you can give the impression that loads of people are getting excited about a particular political movement, many people will want to blindly join the trend, wanting to be part of a big and popular movement.

That may be the BBC’s game in their ‘head to head’ headline. The ‘No’ campaign are ahead by a mile, and the BBC know it, but if you can create an illusion that ‘Yes’ has taken the lead, it might become a self-fulfilling prophesy.

A classical example of bBC bias

Last week we had the NATO summit in Newport and daily reports from the bBC about how people sick to the teeth with the warmongering stance of NATO had taken to the streets in which to scream: “Not in our name?”

So we had this story about less than 10 protesters outside GCHQ:
Low-key GCHQ protest over surveillance case under way
A low-key protest by online activists has started outside the UK Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ).
    _77255666_protest.jpg
Fewer than 10 protestors appeared outside GCHQ on Friday morning
Then we had the protests in Newport:
    Protesters stage anti-Nato march
Around 250 people have taken part in demonstration in Newport against the Nato summit being held in the city.
    _77373706_protestmarchstarting.jpg
So the bBC is happy to report on 8 students stood next to a fence outside GCHQ, 250 so called anti NATO protesters in Newport (When actually there are more anti-(not in NATO) Israel protesters)
So with the penchant for the bBC to report people crowding together to protest agaisnt NATO. I wonder why they haven’t reported how around 70,000 people have popped into Cardiff for a NATO open day.
Estimated 70,000 attend NATO ‘Meet the Forces’ day

Thousands in Cardiff Bay for NATO military open day

As of 20.00hrs on Sunday the bBC still haven’t mentioned the huge crowd puller instead they give you this:
    Afghan woman’s Nato summit protest

The bBC, the traitors within our midst.

The BBC’s main headline this morning:

    ‘Pro-Union figures step up campaign’

In other news, a bear relieves himself in the woods…

    I mean, FFS!

In the fortnight running up to an election, you’d expect both sides to step up their campaigns. Are the BBC perchance wanting to give the impression that the No side have their backs against the wall, and have been forced to come out fighting?

I don’t know if you caught Michael Forsyth on PM last week speaking to Eddie Mair (I think it was).

He openly accused the BBC of bias in its handling of the Darling/Salmond debate, by allowing Salmond to simply shout over Darling and spoke with real passion. The ‘no’ side could do with more with that kind of fire to take it to the ‘yes’ camp, but sadly he’s too tainted with the Thatcher government in many Scots’ eyes to be of much help in this particular fight.

The BBC debate was a shambles and poorly chaired. When you invite the protagonists to cross examine each other directly don’t be surprised if you get a shouting match. We switched off.
The STV debate was much better handled by the chair.

Noticed on Your Call that the BBC carefully omitted the SECOND poll that came out on Saturday showing ‘NO’ still ahead.

Scotland will be amusing if they do get independence. As far as I can see there will be two left-wing political parties vying for power – which means that there will be a lot of pork-barrel politics (bribing your political base) and voter intimidation on both sides (1st political death to happen during the first election campaign).

Whatever colour you like – as long as it’s red.

Always interesting to note instances when the BBC are ahead of the curve in terms of news

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-29103503

‘The leader of Britain’s trade union movement is to warn of creating a “Downton Abbey-style” society in which social mobility “has hit reverse”.’

‘Ms O’Grady’s speech to TUC delegates in Liverpool will expand on the annual conference’s main theme of living standards.’

Why bother Franny dear, you’ve already got your national exposure for your soundbites without all the aggro of actually reading out the speech.

. . . and then she’s given an extended “interview” with Humphrys at 8:30 – and her speech still hasn’t been delivered. Actually there’s no need for the TUC to go to the expense and trouble of organising a conference in the first place. All the TUC/Labour has to do is ensure that the “BBC has learnt” the bullet points of any speech to get its points across unchallenged.

This story is a classic example of the Sunday night setup. The story can run for a few hours before anyone has a chance to challenge it. However I think the BBC have dropped the ball with this one as it’s so absurd I think even the Daily Mail, or perhaps even the Sunday Sport, would baulk at its ridiculousness.

Also good point about not bothering with the speech. I’ve often wondered whether these politicians and trade unionists actually ever give the speech that is so favourable trailed by the BBC.

The truth is we’d be lucky to identify more than a handful of them, especially as we wont be co-operating with intelligence services from Syria, Iran, Israel or Russia. As UK passport holders they have complete freedom of movement throughout the EU and similarly French and German jihadis are pretty much free to come to the UK undetected and unhindered.
If the UK authorities were blind to the decade plus rapes of 1400+ children in Rotherham on its doorstep how will they suddenly becoming omniscient about who’s done what in lawless IS controlled areas of Syria and Iraq?

In-between banging on and on about the Great North Run – turns out that event plus the London Olympics have turned the entire UK economy around…..BBC telling me that Matt Allright the Beeboid with a nose for uncovering the rogues (you know, that BBC bloke who rides pillion to the Polish benefits cheat)

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2159188/BBC-Watchdog-star-Dan-Penteado-wanted-24k-benefits-fraud.html

Well our Matt is launching a new show chasing down rogue landlords.

    http://www.twofour.co.uk/news/matt-allwright-to-front-twofours-brand-new-bbc-one-daytime-brand-the-housing-enforcers/

‘The law says everyone has the right to a safe place to live but for many the reality is more hovel than home. With 3.9 million Britons living in private rented accommodation it can be a battle between tenants and landlords’

Well, assuming you have a Marxian view of society it is always a battle of tenant v landlord.

Anyway funnily enough, in the run up to the Genreal Election this show will fit snugly with one of Ed Miliband’s attack lines.

    http://www.thenorthernecho.co.uk/news/11183698.Miliband_vows_crackdown_on_rogue_landlords_and_letting_agents/

‘…rather than simply present the show, Matt hits the books to become a trainee housing officer for himself. Working shoulder to shoulder with his colleagues he learns the ropes on the job…’

Gosh, real edgy hands on stuff from the Beeb. What ever next? Newsnight Economics Editor embedded with the anti-Capitalists? Paul Mason has been there, done that, bought the tee-shirt. BBC foreign corespondents allied to militant Palestinian groups? – yeah yeah they’re all doing that….

BBC : Talking ’bout a Revolution, you know, we’re all doing what we can….

Rotherham councillors suspended in latest child abuse twist.
Hidden shame of two members of Rotherham’s disgraced council
Sunday/Daily Star, (well worth a read).
Noticed on the BBC, no mention of this at all, in fact I noted the past couple of weeks, the lack of indepth questioning and indeed airtime, over at least two Pakistani muslim councillors.

    http://www.channel4.com/news/catch-up/display/playlistref/270814/clipid/270814_4ON_paraic_27

Very strange indeed seeing as clear family links to drugs trade, and one being the ex owner of a Rham taxi firm, (taxis at school gates/night time economy etc), another being in charge of scrutiny of childrens services!, previous denial of any problem, charged with violence etc … and family links to Yorks police who also carry blame.

Goodness … should have been the first place, to have tv cameras, virulent press pack, and radio reporters demanding answers on camera .. not some strange alternate universe, where for some reason, they re at the very back of the queue.

Is the dam fracturing? Much as the BBC and many in authority would like Rotherham to go away maybe that’s not possible any longer.
Rotherham child abuse: Martin Kimber, council chief exec, to step down
“at least 1,400 children were sexually exploited from 1997-2013, mainly by men of Pakistani heritage”
Still no mention of the M word but a great improvement on ‘men’ or even ‘Asians’. The BBC still trying to obfuscate though with a link on that page to a video laughingly titled ‘Town’s Muslims ‘condemn’ abuse’. No doubt it shows how Islam condemns the abuse, and warns of the fear of Islamophobia, but I can’t be bothered to watch it.
The BBC treating all allegations and findings of paedophilia and cover up equally as usual. Strange I don’t recall any BBC concerns over Catholicphobia when priests were the subject of paedophile claims and convictions.

    BBC.

It has not explained to it’s viewers what would happen if a YES vote occurs.

    1. How do you define Scott if there are no Scottish passports at present?
    2. Would the Scotts have to leave England and return to Scotland?
    3. Would the English, Welsh and those from Northern Ireland have to leave Scotland?
    4. Would property prices in Scotland fall?
    5. Would there be an exodus of property owners and those of wealth from Scotland to England?

An interesting point that has been perhaps overlooked, is that a second referendum will not be allowed. A ‘freedom’ Braveheart protest vote will be set in stone.

    No going back.

Should UKIP be successful next year, I wonder what their stance will be?

Interesting that Milliband has promised border controls should Labour be successful.
