BBC News website – Tories to “curb Human Rights cases”. What, the right wing bastards! Oh, wait a minute, what they intend doing is to give back ultimate control over those ridiculous “right to a family life and unlimited benefits for criminals from far flung countries” cases to our own judiciary rather than random lefties (most not even legal professionals) on the Continent. I don’t need to say who are opposing this move, do I?
The Tories have now decided that they want to withdraw from the European Human Rights Act – well perhaps – maybe ………
It seems that it’s yet another lie where they attempt to negotiate a change so that they can ignore the judgements as & when it suits them to do so.
Of course there isn’t a chance that this will or even can be allowed, so they will have to come out which they claim they can do by the terms of the treaty.
A question is asked on the Radio 4 today program by Humphries in the usual sneering mocking style, that the rest of Europe has to follow it what’s so different about them. Neither of them seemed to know that the legal systems of Europe are very different to that of the UK.
In the UK we use a system of precedent, where previous legal decisions influence and affect those in the future. So one bad decision can mean it cascades down into all future cases, until and unless Parliament changes it.
On the continent they have no precedent law, each case is discrete and a decision of a higher court does not filter down to affect the rest.
Personally I believe the European system is better, as it prevents unelected judges from making laws, or from frustrating the will of Parliament.
It is shocking that a senior MP and a senior BBC interviewer are not aware of the differences between Europe and the UK. The decisions made in the ECtHR affect the UK far more than they do in Europe and thanks to the way Tony BLiar implemented the act the UK Parliament do not have the power to change what it regards as unreasonable or bad decisions, whereas the rest of Europe can simply ignore them
Beeboids’ chum Ms S. Chakrabarti must surely be imminent to lecture British people on how we should:
-support the jihadists’ rights of Guantanamo,
-suppport unelected ECHR to dictate U.K. laws,
-and not criticise the Islamic State’s fascist elimination of all human rights.
For me, this site is becoming slower, and slower, and slower – again – it’s like wading through treacle – it takes an age to load, as do all the threads, and trying to publish a comment even longer. Is anyone else experiencing difficulties? Other regularly visited sites are fine.
Otherwise, it appears from “Today”, this morning, that I can take a pill to quell my desire for a couple of large glasses of wine each day. Not much enjoyment from that particular prospect, I suspect. Why does the government of the Former UK go to such lengths to kill what few pleasures there are left in life? Thankfully, I live in France, and enjoy my wine unmolested.
Also, there are, apparently, ‘mini-Holland’ experiments in certain London boroughs, whereby the local authority has taken social engineering to a new level, barring access to certain areas other than by foot, or bicycle. So they want to turn busy towns in to wasteland, with traffic no-go areas. “No Go” rather sums up that idea, rather well. I seem to remember reading about cyclists and cycling clubs being the spearhead of Agenda 21 in the States. Good luck with that.
Anyway, this may, or may not, eventually get posted.
I didn’t think that this was the government? I thought it was another product of the health Nazis who think we should all live on deionised water & protein pills!
Well, here I go with another comment. I do try and resist, honestly. Last night I had the misfortune to watch ‘This Week’, hosted by Andrew Neil. Firstly, we had a ‘comedienne’ (left wing, of course) she suffers from cerebal palsy ( so there we have it left wing and disabled – bbbc complying with it’s diversity targets) with a little video section that she presented with very little fact in it just, comment. Then later we had Suzanne Evans, UKIP. Now, in the olden days one could have expected 20 minutes of political debate but what did we get from the bbbc? A mass attack by all of the other pundits, so much so that she was (as usual for any UKIP representative) barely able to answer the question put to her. What mad me laugh, in particular was that they had invited the lib dem talking head (a woman who regularly appears on the TW programme (name escapes me)) and she was joining in with the crowd behaviour aswell – the lib dems must now be counting their supporters on one hand. So, as usual the bbbc has devalued and devalued a serious political discussion programme to nothing more than a frivolous political mouthpiece for the left. Together with those awful creatures Evan davis and Kirsty Walk on Newsnight and of course Andrew Marr we have nothing but a left wing megaphone message every day on bbbc.
I do hope that Lord Farage closes them down when he becomes Prime Minister

It is possible that they are aware but have chosen to ignore it.
The BBC especially seems adept at creating and setting precedent, but exempting themselves when it suits.
So, venal or stupid. Or both. A unique choice. And still compelled and unaccountable (the BBC; MPs can be voted out every few years).

Yes, I’ve taken to checking out Guido’s site while waiting for pages to load.
Not that there’s usually anything much to read there, but it’s marginally better than looking at a revolving circle.
