MID WEEK OPEN THREAD

Well then. The morning after. I have never enjoyed watching the BBC more as it chokes on the news that Donald Trump has won convincingly and is President Elect. Their coverage of the Election has been SO one-sided, SO pro-Clinton and SO anti-Trump that watching their smug faces coming to terms with the fact that they completely mis-read it has been fantastic to behold. Even Andrew Neil, the one BBC political presenter who I respect, has been snide as can be about Trump and so he too had to choke on his words and his insults and his smugness. What a night. Ok – NEW Open Thread so over to you! Thoughts?

Surprisingly good analysis by John Pilger in RT interview today around 14.30. Might be repeated.

Said that the establishment and the MSM created Trump, whom they should have seen coming. No real journalists in the MSM – they’re just an echo chamber for a corrupt establishment typified by Clinton.

Digs at NY Times, Guardian and BBC.

Pilger’s like Michael Moore – both so far off to the left that just occasionally they start making good sense. It never lasts long, but while it does it can be briefly illuminating.

That was my understanding but I think I caught most of the interview today and it was well reasoned and spot on.

Perhaps the penny is beginning to drop here and there, BBC excepted.

BBc North West up to it’s usual antics at lunchtime. Yesterday they were reporting on a charity that was selling T-shirts the followers of the cult of “peace & understanding” wouldn’t like.

Today they are back to the “so called bedroom tax”, When not spinning stories for the cult they like to attack certain parts of the welfare system. It’s not a tax. Today they report on a few cases succeding in the supreme court https://www.theguardian.com/society/2016/nov/09/families-win-supreme-court-appeals-over-unfair-bedroom-tax-jacqueline-carmichael But gloss over the cases rejected. I for one and I know of many more are not opposed to the under-occupancy charge on the basis of why should we subsidise people in rented accommodation that is larger than their needs, an aspect North West never bothers to discuss.

Yes indeed. In fact, you think the BBC would think likewise as surely these people are denying housing to the more deserving – like immigrants with large families.

When is our government going to take the issue of BBC bias seriously? It is a taxpayer funded semi monopoly in the UK news sphere, not a privately funded Channel like Fox News or CNN which doesn’t tax US citizens and is entitled to any view within the law . In return for our taxes we are entitled to a truly unbiased coverage. The USA is the worlds most powerful country and our most important ally. We the taxpayers are entitled to a truthful and undistorted reporting of its presidential election from our state broadcaster . We did not get that. The government must act.

My paraphrase of BBC R4 “Women’s Hour” today:

Jenny Murray: “How could any woman possibly vote for a misogynistic potty-mouth like Trump?”

Token Trump-supporting woman: “Because Clinton was worse, and not all women vote purely on the basis of candidate’s gender”.

Murray: “Shut up! Shut up! I asked you about Trump, not about Clinton.”

They also had a big discussion about how Clinton was by far the most “qualified” candidate. As if running for office were like responding to a job ad in the local paper. Again it was left to TTSW to point out that Clinton’s record in office was a good basis on which voters could qualify her out.

Al Beeb & Co have got their hands over their ears and are just shouting like toddlers having a tantrum. It is absolutely wonderful.

Sorry this prose is a bit woolly. I have been up since 3am enjoying it all πŸ™‚

The BBC got the US election inexcusably wrong.

The BBC assured us women were alienated by Trump.
The exit polls show : white women voted 53% for Trump and 43% for Clinton.

The BBC assured us the educated were alienated by Trump.
Exit polls: 54% of male college graduates voted for Trump, as did 45% of female college graduates.

The BBC assured us the wealthy were alienated by Trump
Exit polls: of American voters who earn more than $50,000 a year, 49% chose Trump, and 47% Clinton.

They said Latinos and blacks would swing the election for Clinton but Clinton had a drop in both demographics compared to the previous election:
African Americans from 93% for Obama to 88% for Clinton.
Latinos from 71% for Obama to 60% for Clinton.

Trump actually increased the percentage of Latinos and African American voters over Mitt Romney’s score. Also the much heralded youth vote fell away for Clinton, from 60% for Obama to 54% for Clinton.

In other words, the BBC’s blind support for a candidate simply because she was a woman, a feminist and a democrat, over ran their judgement.

Sack β€˜em all and make them repay every penny of tax money the BBC have hoovered from our pockets. Today wouldn’t be too soon.

The message people need to learn from this (and Brexit, too) is you cannot shout down someone with opposing views to your own with accusations of racist, misogynyst, homophobe, islamophobe, little englander or any other slur for that matter. It is lazy politics. Far better to make effective counter arguments and let the voters decide and more importantly – don’t insult their intelligence.

Just a shame that all CNN can waffle on about (all day) is how ‘DIVIDED THE COUNTRY IS’ as a result of Trump’s election. But that’s the way of the left, isn’t it? Where others seek to sow community, equality and tolerance all the regressives ever want to do is to break us apart, seed dissent and promote identity politics as a way to keep us all in our separate boxes. The BBC continues its utterly shameful and negative coverage throughout the afternoon, including a repeat of the ‘highlights’ accompanied by a piano dirge of the Star Spangled Banner. Matthew Amroliwalla – yes, really – seems in shock, probably wondering what they will do with all that champagne now.
It is already way beyond any attempt at balance, even the punters interviewed are 5:1 against and if coverage continues in this vein – as seems likely with the elite so convinced of their righteousness – one bit of advice I would offer to Donald Trump, in all sincerity, is to avoid grassy knolls.

This exchange was followed by a classic BBC moment when the presenter made an aside implying that anyone who didn’t agree that Obama was born in the USA must think that he was born on the moon.

Seismic – I think the BBC loves to turn certain communities into “victim” communities so they can do their virtue signalling bit and also look as if they are performing some sort of useful social function. (Its a bit like a bowel function but less satisfying)
They seem to love communities that are quite vocal anyway so it is always an easy gig.
They have done this with Islam – Islamaphobia this and islamaphobic that and the same with homophobia. It has reached such a state of stupidity where some of these “victim” communities can literally get away with murder, as people are afraid to be critical.
The LGBT community (whatever that is) aided and abetted by the BEEB seems to have developed a very thin skin and now always seems to be looking for issues. (but not the ones that matter)
In fact most of the gays I have known over the years are certainly not “shy pansies” and are generally earning five or six times more money than I ever will. Good luck to em.
This is why I like Milo because he does not play the “victim”
He refuses to be defined by his sexuality (though he plays on it) and will not indulge the MSM in their shitty little games and is unafraid to speak the truth as he sees it.

      Lobster,
The BBC’s Business section has been particularly laughable today and that is saying something. First off, when the Asian markets wobbled very slightly as Trump took the lead the BBC was trying to stoke up a melt-down. That effort failed so the next fictional piece spoke of uncertainty. Oh dear, that failed as well. Then the markets were, apparently, muted. Finally, as you point out, the markets closed up apart from the BBC Global 30..hahahaha. The Pound is also up. Poor little cub reporter Kamal Ahmed is having a deservedly torrid time.

Now the euphoria of today’s election result is subsiding a bit, I thought this might bring everybody back to the reality of the Planet Zog we are currently forced to live on by a small but zealous bunch of shrieking anti-capitalist enviro-leftards:

Greece set to win €1.75bn from EU climate scheme to build two coal plants

The 1100MW coal stations will cost an estimated €2.4bn, and emit around 7m tonnes of CO2 a year, casting doubt on their viability without a cash injection from an exemption under Europe’s carbon trading market.

Leaving aside the sheer hypocrisy of this EU decision, the reaction of the climate zealots in this article i.e. those people who are currently driving our energy production to extinction and our prosperity into oblivion, are a joy to behold. Come the revolution, just as with Brexit and Trump, the little people will have their day of justice and these eco-socialist one-world shedheads will be called to account but not, I fear, before many innocent and vulnerable people have died for want of access to life-sustaining heat, light and modern technology.

Hope you’ll still be around, Horrorbin.

I lived in NY for 4 years still have good friends there. Their Revolution was no taxation without representation which led to Independence. Pity George 3 did not have the internet to give a non MSM non BBC view of his day and may be come to a decision to listen to their complaints and we would have America like Canada and Australia.

That is the bias BBC we are being taxed and no representation they are not fulfilling their Charter so we should refuse to pay their tax. May be this will lead to our Revolution and Independence it a way it already has. The BBC has a Charter and is a tax their bias and today,s broadcast is a disgrace but they are becoming irrelevant we look elsewhere for alternative journalism but the corporation needs to be bought to account.

Useless uninteresting factoid is that Trump will be the oldest US President ever elected, taking the position from Ronald Reagan by one year.

That’s a good point Thoughtful, the greatest threat to Trump is assassination; though it’s worth posing the question: if he were to be murdered, the Progressives might discover that the person who emerges after him (subsequent to seeing what DT has achieved by putting forward the policies that he has) might make the Donald look like a SJW.

If they want him dead, they need to be aware of what the consequences of that might be and I don’t think it would be the Republicans selecting a John Kasich type, in four years time, would be one of them.

I hope Trump will be very well protected. Unlike Hillary, I feel he will value his Secret Service bodyguards. She looked down her nose at hers, and treated them like servants. Not wise when they are meant to take a bullet for you, but typical of the snootiness of an upper class liberal when they have to deal with real working people.

    Votes need seasonally adjusting
Like Brexit I think we have to adjust for media biased of ProjectFear and ProjectSneer
The real Trump vote would have been 60+% if we adjust for the “hostile media season”
…. There will be plenty of people who will soon see
“Hey the world didn’t collapse like CNN said it would. I wish I had voted for Trump too”

turnout was up 4.7% so I surely its only non-Trump voters who stayed at home

I was thinking the very same myself. Adjusting for obscene media bias, dead voters, illegal voters just in from Mexico, multiple votes by one person, faulty machines (always favouring Dems), intimidation of Trump supporters – if you factor in all these things, then the real margin of Trump`s victory would have been substantially higher.

It is disquieting though to hear from people we know, BBC opinions being trotted out word for word. There have never been so many information sources and yet they trust the BBC – ‘The Worlds Most Dishonest Broadcaster’. I don’t reckon this is the BBC I grew up with anymore and the Daily Sun often has more credibility these days – that is quite a realisation to arrive at?

Agreed Gaxvil – but we also need a decent opposition party.Just such a pity that UKIP without Farage cant seem to keep their shit together!!!

It still amazes me that pretty much everything Farage has said about the EU migration and Brexit has come true – yet he still remains probably the most maligned person in the UK media.

I guess the truth hurts-especially if you have spent the last couple of decades not telling it!

I think that the Donald has been bold (and perfectly correct) in calling out the ‘corrupt media’. He laid it all on the table. There are not many people, to my knowledge, who have had the balls to do that. I hope it is just the beginning.
