Nothing to do with BBC bias but just of interest after the last post about the BBC’s hagiography of Saint Blair…the New Statesmen has its own go at running the rule over Cool Britannia and the Blair bewitched project…it’s from a music writer’s perspective, John Harris from the Guardian….Cool Britannia: where did it all go wrong?

This is the most telling bit…those rebellious young Turks just wanted their dad to love them really, to understand them…and give them pocket money no doubt…..

The end of 18 years of Conservative government was a truly euphoric moment. There did seem to be a shift from fusty, greying Tories to a new breed of politicians who at least had some idea about culture and how it worked.

So much for Drugs, Sex an’ Rock’n’Roll…they just wanted hand outs and understanding from the government.

They were much better off under Thatcher who cut the art grants and forced them to think, strive and create to survive…and the art world was immeasurably better for it….no need for a ‘breed of politicians who had some idea about culture and how it worked’.

The party was intended to thank celebrities who had lent their support to Labour’s 1997 election campaign, as well as serving notice of the new regime’s affinity with the so-called creative industries. There they all were: Eddie Izzard, Vivienne Westwood, Lenny Henry, Ian McKellen, the Pet Shop Boys, Angus Deayton – and Noel Gallagher.. 20 years on the same old the same old !!

I’m a Philistine myself . Most art is pretentious rubbish and they know it .

Why do we have an ” official artist ” for this election ? Who appoints and how is she paid ? How does it help the democratic process ? Another favourite of the BBC .

If in doubt where I stand , Piccasso is childish scribbling lauded by gullible halfwits .

Well the “Official War Artist” of the 1914-1918 War, provided our family with a portrait of my Great Grandfather, and views of his crew and vessel.

In my opinion, modern artists should be using Poetry to tell us “what is on their minds” because joe-public has no idea what they are trying to tell us by their art!

Write it down guys, then maybe the public will understand what the eck you are saying!

Famous for blowing up a shed…and of course pretty left-wing…worth every penny of the £17,000 she’ll get for the job….she’ll be able to afford to go to the hairdresser instead of shearing her own.
