I flew from San Francisco to London via Vancouver once with BA. Up until then I had been suffering from an overdose of American ‘service’ politeness, (if you say ‘thank you’ to a cashier they will come back at you with an even ‘nicer’ comment. It can go crazy if you try to top that, they will not be outdone!).
The first part of the flight was uneventful, there were very few passengers onboard. On arrival at Vancouver we stayed seated while the plane rapidly filled up with aged Asians, (I imagine returning to India via London after visiting their ‘new Canadian’ offspring).
One old gentleman was clearly struggling with something and one of BA’s finest rapidly came to his aid to find out what the problem was. He indicated his bag on the floor which he wanted to put in the overhead bin. “If it is too heavy for you sir, then it is too heavy for me!”, and so saying turned on her heel and dissapeared.

I though, “I’m back in the UK!”.
