Weekend Open Thread

The problem with the NHS?  It’s a funding issue, not millions more patients, and ‘some say’ the NHS is being deliberately run-down by the Government. Car sales down?  It’s because of ‘uncertainty due to Brexit’.  Trump?  A sex attacker just like Harvey Weinstein, an allegation made repeatedly on the Today show without a word of dissent.  Want to fly to America after Brexit?….not a chance…all flights will be grounded….#duetobrexit [rest assured it’s not the BBC’s job to scaremonger the presenter tells us…however….lol].

Any more BBC bias?  List it all here….

    Toady headlines:

    1. May will make her cabinet more ‘diverse.’ Great news – Khan is a very diverse mayor and that has really helped with his ability to do the job, which is kind of the most important thing. Loads of robbery, terror and stabbing but who cares when the person letting it all happen has brown skin? What definite evidence has ever been given that ‘diversity’ brings a net benefit? None whatsoever yet they preach as if its benefits were as obvious as sunlight. In reality it brings division, a parallel legal system which reduces many to second class citizens and enriches lawyers and bureaucrats.

    2. A female journalist has resigned, ostensibly over unequal pay though I am often suspicious of ulterior motives; the ‘equality’ card can be played to mask mistakes. How absolutely fascinating for all of us; someone well-paid wants to be paid more. Other well-paid trougher women are hash tagging in solidarity with her! Let’s pray she can get through this.

    3. An insight into a Guardian journalist who has recently died who was noble and truthful. I imagine half of us might think him a pompous champagne socialist but it’s not like the BBC are obliged to be impartial.

    4. Women are not treated as well when they have a heart attack. Sad news of course, but there are countless ways in which male health is taken less seriously than women’s which are never mentioned: five times more likely to be in prison; four times more likely to be homeless; far more likely to have drug or gambling addictions; four times more likely to commit suicide – what a harrowing statistic; and of course we on average live about five years less which suggests that ultimately men might not have the better deal.

Non-stop agenda. An ultra narrow, PC, SJW vomit-a-thon where they talk about themselves to themselves and to hell with the majority of listeners.

The journalist turned down an offer to increase her £135,000 salary by £45,000. She is being treated absolutely terribly – how could she possibly survive on just £180,000 a year plus perks? I promised myself I would not cry but I have actually broken down and wept at what this brave woman is going through.

Do they not think how distasteful this is when most people are off to do unglamorous jobs for a fraction of that wage?

It’s an excellent example of how out of touch the bubble dwellers are – politicians and journos with snouts in the public trough. I bet if you asked the people in my local poundshop or using something called a ‘bus’ ( which is not a tax paid taxi) whether £180000 is a lot of money I think I can guess the answer. Declaration – I am not a socialist and am what al Beeb would describe as ‘an extreme right winger’ – swivel eyed – as they like to say .

    Toady watch

The Fine China al Beeb presenter Ms Gracie – presents Toady today – 12 hours after resigning from her real job- nice timing Carrie . I’m guessing a good few over paid al beeboid change managers had their Sunday night spoilt by her move.
Any way – we had a beauty of a moment where Humph ( £650 000 pa minimum ) had a non interview with ms Gracie because presenters cannot interview each other .

Now don’t get me wrong – I could care less who gets what – I think they’re all overpaid with taxpayers cash . The reason I highlight this is in the hope that such trivial incidents will ultimately destroy al Beeb in its current form.

Ms Gracie is going to be interviewed on Wimmins Hour later today. I’m a chap so I’m a bit excluded by their constant fixation with genital matters and how do I get a divorce / married and is pippa better that the other one. Priceless

End line – as I listen Humph is chatting to someone called marriella on one of their dodgy lines so they can pull the plug when they want to for ‘technical reasons ‘ in the way they normally to with mr Farage and those not toeing the albeeb line.

Humph called the lady a ‘star’ to which she took exception and asked if Humph is a ‘star’ – he said ‘no’ and apologised . Mari watsname got away with saying she was on probably a tenth of what Humph is on.

Let’s hope this al Beeb turning on itself is a sign of a coming end.

This is the argument the BBC give for over paying their presenters.. or perhaps she had them by the balls and played it…with the salary issues as the squeeze

Exactly – it is much easier to go out in a blaze of glory citing issues of ‘equality’ rather than mention that you don’t like your current job all that much or are not very good at it.

I hate how any member of a protected group is not interrogated properly; it is accepted that their argument by nature of coming from the mouth of an angel is incapable of being in any way impure.

She cannot be that annoyed if she is still working for them. You don’t storm out of your work whilst giving two fingers to management then just move to a different department.

It smells very fishy to me.

      Dystopian, James,
It is a clever question. The liberal left have seen how democracy can get out of hand and the plebs can vote for Populists , politicians who might do what the people actually want. So perhaps the best way to run society from the liberal left point of view is to avoid elections and democracy altogether and have it run by a self selecting bunch of bureaucrats. Of course these people would always be of the liberal left and operate in much the same way as the EU commission does. They can appoint their liberal left chums to plum jobs for life and constantly give themselves huge pay rises all without the silly, stupid people ever even knowing let alone being able to do something about it by voting Populist.

One of those little giveaway moments on Toady this morning, where the bias is not only revealed but acknowledged!
On the subject of Carrie Gracie, who if I recall correctly was actually PRESENTING Today this morning. Humphries could not interview her directly about it (editorial guidelines) so instead, another BBC presenter, one Mariella Frostrup came on.
She talked in terms about the BBC being a beacon for all that is “right and just and fair”.
She then said……”as an old socialist, I……”

So that is ‘right and just and fair’ through the eyes of an old socialist then, yes? One whose views are continually presented as if impartial.

    How very impartial. Not.

Not strictly biased BBC, but then again not entirely disconnected.
Over at the Golden Globes, the smug, sanctimonious luvvies are all wearing black to show solidarity with victims of ‘abuse’ in Hollywood. Now it seems incredible to believe that absolutely none of them knew what had been going on these past years. Perhaps their bank managers can explain the years of silence, before the recent sudden uprising in anguish.

I came across the following quote by the great Sir Nicholas Winton, the wartime kindertransport arranger. It really puts the luvvies who knew, but stayed silent, in the hole where they belong.

    Quote
There is a difference between passive goodness and active goodness, which is, in my opinion, the giving of one’s time and energy in the alleviation of pain and suffering. It entails going out, finding and helping those in suffering and danger, and not merely in leading an exemplary life, in a purely passive way of doing no wrong. ~ Sir Nicholas Winton

For anyone who hasn’t read the Lily Allen story the Breitbart report starts with these paragraphs:

“Pop singer Lily Allen has claimed Muslim grooming gang victims could have been “raped or abused by somebody else at some point” if the gangs were not active in the UK.

Ms. Allen also claimed that there is a certain “type” of rapist who attacks their stepdaughter and is 100 per cent “British white” during a discussion about Muslim rape gangs and immigration on Twitter.

Recent research by counter-extremism think tank Quilliam found that 84 per cent of grooming gang members are of ‘Asian’ origin, with founder Maajid Nawaz characterising them as “British South-Asian Muslim men”.

But when questioned about this reality, Ms. Allen sought to divert attention to the sexual crimes of others, and insisted the problem of sex abuse is so bad the victims of grooming gangs would have been attacked even if the gangs did not exist.

“Actually, there’s a strong possibility they would have been raped and abused by somebody else at some point. That’s kind of the issue,” she tweeted, after a user asked her if the young victims would have been abused if the perpetrators had not been allowed into the country.”

Admittedly the telephone number salaries banded about at the BBC is obscene, the fact that being able to ‘read’ and follow an auto cue is rewarded with wages higher than a brain surgeon or the prime minister is insane. However, if equal pay is decreed between men and women at a high pay level, then hopefully it should find its way down the food chain.

I say this because back in the 70’s I did exactly the same job in estate agency as my male colleague. Both of equal age, we were on a par when it came to valuing and listing properties, and we both had a company car. However, he was on a salary of almost £3,000 per year more than me (if I remember I was on around £7,000 and he was on almost £10,000 ). When I questioned the disparity, I was told by the boss that if my colleague were to marry he would have a family to provide for !!! Sod the fact that I could get married to, – but then, it was accepted that my husband would have to ‘look after me’ when the expected babies arrived. The babies never arrived, and I did get married, but my wages remained throughout my career in various occupations, well below those of my male colleagues.

My first job paid 13p per hour, my female co-worker received 17p because she was a year older. However I had to carry two bags against her one ‘because she was a girl’.

In later years I found that my boss had approved a travel allowance for one of his team but for no-one else, including myself even though our journeys to work were identical. His excuse was that ‘he had a big house to renovate’.

Didn’t female bank workers have to resign once they got married (1970s?)?

      • Up2snuff says:

Jim, that rule ended long prior (probably during WW2) to that but, depending on area of work within a bank group, the rule that married couples were not allowed to stay in the same domestic banking branch (or same Bank if a sole branch of overseas bank) continued into the 1970s.

    • StewGreen says:

@Brisseles These days it’s upto us to negotiate the best salary we can whether we are man/woman.
Each individual has a different value to a company, and part of that value is future loyalty.
In the past weren’t male salaries higher as a kind of “future loyalty bonus” ?
ie the boss would be thinking about 5 years time
So if the year was 1965, he would say to X “you owe me loyalty cos I’ve looked after you since 1960”

Now in 1960 person Y might say to the boss “I want £10K as well”
..and the boss might say ” I don’t believe you’ll be here in 5 years time so I am not going to invest in this ‘future loyalty bonus for you’ ”
I think if he applied that rule to Person Y as an individual and not cos she was a woman..I think that is OK.
Now imagine if Person Z is a man but not able to guarantee future loyalty say cos it’s pretty sure he’ll have to leave to take over the family estate , then he should not be able to negotiate that ‘future loyalty bonus’

Now if Person Y as a woman said “Listen I am not going to leave, have children or end up caring for a parent soon’ then she should be able to negotiate the ‘future loyalty bonus’
      …………………..
If bosses didn’t care about loyalty they might in the 1960s just never hired any men, and just employed 100% women cos it worked out cheaper.

I wonder if as a maths exercise what would happen if a corp calculated the COST of employing people..the full lifetime cost….say for train driver or teachers.
Some people would leave the job after a few years, and others stay until retirement
Some would have been forced to retire at 60, whilst others didn’t have the opportunity until 65
Some would die young and some continue to take a pension until 100
I’m guessing that that say often in the past a company company had trained a man who worked for 30 years while for the same job in the other shift they’d had to train 2 or women over 30 years

Stew (after reading your analogy a few times !) I can see your point, and of course 40 years ago we were on a different planet re wages, nevertheless being female it still bloody rankled that I was being penalised for the future probability of me leaving to have babies, so it wasn’t worth upping my pay grade. As it turned out I was with the company for 23 years, and if that wasn’t ‘loyal’ I don’t know what was. Sadly back then, we got what we were given, and it wasn’t done to even ask for a pay rise, seeing as how it was reviewed every year.

health tourist has racked up Britain’s biggest ever unpaid NHS bill after leaving a hospital with a debt of more than £530,000.
The unnamed patient, who is from outside the EU, received treatment from a Manchester hospital last year.

Hospital bosses have cited ‘patient confidentiality’ and have not revealed which country they are from, their age or gender.
It comes as health tourism continues to cost the NHS around £2billion a year after doctors up and down the country provide treatment for non-EU residents.

The latest incident means the Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust was left with a debt of £532,498.

Freedom of Information laws has revealed that the figure is £30,000 more than the previous highest health tourist debt.

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-5244525/Health-tourist-racks-Britains-biggest-unpaid-NHS-bill.html

There is nothing on the BBC about this at all despite their claiming that the NHS is under pressure because of underfunding. If May wanted to do something about this she could easily require all non EU visitors to have travel insurance before visiting the UK but she’s like a rabbit in the headlights, scared to do anything in case the left say boo!
She could also force NHS administrators to pay the costs of operations carried out on those not entitled to them if it can be shown that they knew and approved the expenditure.

The problem should be sorted out properly, but until then the quick fix would be to take £2billion per year off the foreign aid budget and give it to the NHS. It would remove the NHS’s incentive to find a long term solution, but all the foreign aid troughers would be demanding action – so the BBC would be would have dailt items on Toady demanding action.

RJ, another justification for, at least, going part-way on that would be:

‘As between three and five million* Foreigners are no longer foreigners outside the UK but here with us, we will take a quarter/third/half (choose fraction) of the Foreign Aid budget and give it to the NHS to deal with all health needs.’

Assuming that many who come here as some form of migrant (refugee, asylum seeker, economic migrant, student) and may well choose quite legitimately to stay, one of the first priorities would be to ensure they are treated equally.

There is no point in the UK virtue-signalling to the world with a Foreign Aid budget that is proportionately one of the highest in the world, if then all of its inhabitants suffer from a shortage of provision. The logical thing to do is to net off ‘virtue’ with ‘ home need’. To reduce the whole of the UK to a health basket case merely to look good in the eyes of some abroad is illogical.

On a more seri… less flippant note, I have been giving some thought to all this public sector pay negotiation lark.

Railway companies can do what they like so long as it is between them and their customers, so simply handing over more on demand is of no concern to me. Labour asking doctors what they would like, being told and doing so is.

Then we come to the BBC, of no concern to me financially any more, but I enjoy this blog so worth discussing.

IIRC the BBC fought tooth and nail, as a public sector organisation, to keep high end salaries secret.

One (of many excuses) was this market rates confidentiality thing.

But best I can judge it was, is and will always be what agents ask for and can swing, or who has other ways of getting bosses or HR to bump them up the ranks. Or both. Black dresses a must.

What it seems to be nothing at all to do with is talent. Or if it is old birds are still bounced and the saviour of Kabul is still on the top bracket. And Amol gets primed for Newsnight and Kamal the Harding slot. Jasmine to take over as DGette.

Martin Bashir is handed Religious Pope without any looking elsewhere or, it seems, even internal advertising, because he wanted to sniff Sarah Palin’s undies. Or something. All of which in any other company, public or private, would bring the world crashing around them.

So basically the trusted, transparent, fair and impartial BBC never has been, isn’t and never will be.

    But remains, as ever, unique.

Stew, you may need to differentiate between condensate (part distilled?) and the light crude (aka Brent oil) which you can tip straight from the ground into your deadly diesel car, if you have one and drive away. I thought TWatO report suggested it was the latter. Since you are here, how toxic is oil straight from the ground? The BBC is describing it as toxic. Truly toxic would not be safe to touch or to be near. Obviously, a stomach full off the stuff or a lung full of its mist might do you no good, but I recall people coming into contact with various extracted crudes without harm.

FakeNews or FalseNews or a modern careless use of the word ‘toxic’ from the BBC?

      • Up2snuff says:

Stew, looks like we’ve had an effect on the BBC Radio News! In the 6pm Bulletin they now got rid of the contradiction and used condensate only.

Interesting side issue: the Iranians used not to have any oil processing plants, thanks to sanctions from a US led coalition. Former President Obama lifted the sanctions, IIRC, so did this mean that a hurriedly constructed refinery in combination with an Iranian vessel is potentially causing – according to the BBC – an environmental disaster?

        Rough justice?

Anyone from the BBC mentioning Obama?

Yes, I noticed this article also. From what I can gather the bBC has now invested in reporting the News as dictated by social media. In this case complaining about how time constrained filming uses people at hand in which to keep costs down . As an example of their editorial control the article in question has this to say on the matter:
Many within the industry have criticised producers for not recruiting people with Pakistani, Indian, Bangladeshi or Arab heritage.

Then further down the very same article says this:
There were whitewashing claims in July 2017 after a non-Arab actor, Naomi Scott, was cast in Princess Jasmine’s role in the film. Scott, who’s of British and Indian heritage, will star alongside Egyptian-Canadian actor Mena Massoud as Aladdin.

Now if the bBC, is so angry about not having the right quota of non-white people set in a Middle eastern setting, can somebody please explain why the very same idiots complaining , have no problem telling me that a black Hermoine Granger , A black James Bond or even a black spider man isn’t racist.

Thanks to all here who have supplied links to other sites with accurate, relevant information on terror acts worldwide. I’ve been having some fun analysing the beeb’s output in relation to all this (nothing new here, but I do like detail).

On the Derby bomb plot page, if you click related topics > UK terror trials, it brings up a page of similar incidents. Except they all are oddly airbrushed of words relating to the religious, geographical or ideological provenance of such terrorists and acts of terror. There are several articles, but only two videos on the page:

      ————————-
Video 1: “How long to hold terror suspects without charge” is a historical look at the legal aspects of detaining suspects. It kicks off by mentioning the first laws introduced between ’74 and ’89 were aimed at tackling ‘Northern Irish related terrorism’. Ok. Strangely (predictably) it then goes the entire rest of the video without mentioning the religious, geographical or ideological provenance of any terrorists or acts of terror since ’89.

      ————————-
Video 2 features the brother of a man killed in the Manchester Arena bombing who has ‘received abuse from right-wing extremists’. He says he gets a lot of messages asking “how he is not angry with the religion that killed his brother”. 5 Live’s Emma Barnett responds with “how does that hate make you feel?” Deftly (and immorally) attributing questions with hate.

His reaction to the question-askers: “you’ve taken an extremist attack, and then you’re mapping it to your anti-Muslim feelings. It’s just straight-up racism”.

My response to the beeb’s coverage: “You’ve taken multiple attacks over years and decades with repeated, clear links to a violent religious ideology, and then you’re mapping it to your Disneyland anti-discriminatory feelings. It’s just straight-up bullshit.”

(Thanks for letting me get that off my chest, I needed that.)

This charming couple were planning a “devastating” terror attack in the UK using a homemade bomb. And possibly the highly toxic Ricin.
Luckily our most trusted broadcaster is relatively relaxed about the whole thing, giving the story a small mention on the sidebar of its Home page, and no picture or names.
Permit me to rectify that omission.

Al beeb will conceal these would be mass murderers beneath the meaningless Carrie Gracie show – next up al beeb will ban anyone talking about the ban on her supporters – which should disqualify the majority of beeboids from doing the noos. No great loss – RT time.

Update on our Casanova terrorist and his sweetheart: in the space of a few short minutes they’ve been disappeared from al beeb’s Home page sidebar and are now demoted down the page to a section called Full Story. Let’s see how long till they’re moved off the front page altogether.

    Iran bans English from being taught in primary schools {bbc.co.uk 08jan2018}

Iran has banned teaching the English language in primary schools, calling the subject a “cultural invasion”.

The education ministry “envisages strengthening Persian language skills and Iranian Islamic culture of pupils at the primary school stage”, its secretary told state media.

Is Oprah Winfrey running for president? asks the beeb ecstatically.

It’s only a wet dream in the mind of an editor at this stage, but imagine the coverage she’d get from the beeb if she were to run.

She ticks every single box: Black, tick. Woman (what’s the singular of wimmin?), tick. Feminist, tick. Democrat, tick. Celeb, tick. SJW, tick. Fat, tick. Constantly fighting the fat and sharing her losing battle with the world, tick, etc etc.
Imagine how ‘impartial, fair and balanced’ the beeb would be if it came down to Trump vs. Oprah.

Wouldn’t it be great ? With Hillary as Vice President – in so many ways.

I think it might be better if there are three awards – female – male – and other . Like the forms one gets these days . I don’t follow foreign countries like America too closely but is suppose CNN , the other meeja will get on board the black woman for president gig . Would guarantee a Trump second term – if they haven’t killed him by then

Public Relations people don’t even try to hide that they do News-creating
You may have noticed this segment dropped into your LOCAL ITV news at 6:10pm
not a product advert, but rather a 7 minute advert-for-narrative
A narrative that ‘electric cars are great’

“TV News” = a platform for pushing brainwashing narratives at the general public
18:10pm Electric-car-Narrative newsvert dropped straight into ITV regional programmes
#1 Yorkshire Studio : Smiley autocue reader :”And one thing that’s taking off is electric cars …there were only 3,000 sold in our last year, but green orgs say blah blah…”
#2 Flick to centralised news item that all ITV regions are viewing at the same time (about 4mins)
And straight away comedian and EV crusader Robert Llewellyn is on making wacky claims
‘Oh electric cars are way cheaper than cars 2-3p when petrol is 20p *
..only thing is range anxiety ..people think they are going to run out in the middle of nowhere, but that is impossible cos the computer gives you plenty of warning ….’
      * Those figs are ridiculous ..If full life cycle was economic every fleet would be all electric, but they aren’t so that makes you think

#3 Then back to local studio Matt Price
      – Mentioned lack of charging points range
      – End with Norway hype ..failing to make context clear that actual EV sales fell as people are now preferring hybrids

Carrie Gracie on C4 news full of herself, telling us how good she is at her job. If anyone listened to her co presenting the Today programme this morning they may have a different opinion. Local radio standard at best.

    • Up2snuff says:

Carrie hasn’t got the voice or the modulation for the TOADY Programme. She wasn’t as bad or distracting as some, but I still found myself listening to her voice instead of what she was saying.

The strange thing is that her voice seemed different to me to her ‘China voice’. Do I recall correctly that she came back to the UK for cancer treatment? Maybe the chemo has affected her breathing or voice in some way. Maybe the engineers haven’t set her up with a comparable set of tweaks for the TODAY studio to those when used over the air or satellite links from China? Now we may never know.

What I’m also still wondering is whether there is general disquiet in the TODAY ranks. Could it be the final straw for Carrie was the new Chief Editor from Fleet Street getting shoehorned into the job at George Osborne-like rates, while the other Editors (some of whom are female) who did not get the nod for the move up to the top job are earning considerably less than Sarah Sands AND less than their equivalent male colleagues?

She had cancer before she went to China. Up until 2011 she was anchor on BBC News with Simon McCoy, then she disappeared from our screens. Months later it was revealed she had been treated for cancer, and it was after that that she was assigned to China. Personally I think she is one of the better journalists who does know her stuff, unlike some of the the lippy glossy glamour girls who sit in front of the auto cues.

          Brissles, thanks for that correction.

Probably points toward the TODAY studio and/or what the engineers are setting. That said, her reports from China were relatively short compared with getting up close & personal with a TOADY mic for three hours.

Agree that she was supremely qualified for the China job and was good. The BBC have lost an asset there. And on her qualities above those of the eye-candy. I did notice, however, the recent makeover that she had had in the pics used this week. (For the job hunting?)

I feel a great deal of sympathy for Carrie. Who hasn’t gone to their boss asking for a raise and been offered a measly £45,000 extra? She was right to tell him to stuff his job and quit, especially as she still seems to be working there.
