More snowflake-related than bBBC, but there is one welcome thing that I’ve noticed over the last week or so.
Every time I’ve heard “The Fairytale of New York” on the radio recently, it’s actually been uncut and uncensored, so when Kirsty MacColl sings “You cheap lousy faggot” there is no bleeping or distorting of that “offensive” word.
It must be said that I haven’t been listening to BBC radio or watching the TOTP repeats, so I don’t know whether the bBBC are following suit, but the local and DAB stations play it uncut.
Which is quite refreshing. Small victories, and all that.
The BBC edited the word faggot. But there followed an uproar led by fans and Kirsty Mcall’s mother so they had to reverse it and allow the original to be played.

Radio 1 backs down in Pogues row
The edited version
BBC Radio 1 has said it will allow the Pogues’ Fairytale of New York to be played on the station uncut, after criticism of a decision to censor it.
The words “slut” and “faggot” had been dubbed out from the 20-year-old festive hit by station executives.
But after a day of criticism from listeners, the band, and the mother of singer Kirsty MacColl, they changed their minds.
Controller Andy Parfitt said the original decision was “wrong”.
The BBC had said that an edited version would be played because “some members of the audience might find it offensive”.
G.W F
Of course they would want to delete the offensive words now. This is because if the younger generation of today had been the younger generation of thirty or so years ago, things would have been so different because the younger generation of today is so much more enlightened and educated than we ever were or could ever aspire to be. Racism, poverty, income inequality and all of today’s other social ills would, by now, have been eradicated.
On the other hand………
You’ve gotta laugh. If the younger generation today were the younger generation of 30, 40 or even 50 years ago, their main cause for concern was how high platforms you dare wear without falling off, take the plunge and have a fringe like Dave Hill (Slade), or to be seen in public wearing the stripey tank top that your Gran had knitted. While all the girls spent hours perfecting the Farrah Fawcett hairstyle.

Nearly every interview I’ve watched in the past couple of days where migration has been discussed, has shown that its ALWAYS those who are descendants of other cultures and recent migrants, who maintain that migration is a good ‘thing’ for this country, and how ‘we’ as a nation, have benefitted from it. Well, they would wouldn’t they, as they are the only ones who have gained the most.
I’ve given this a lot of thought, and having reached 70, wondered how migration has ‘benefitted’ me throughout my life. Only on one occasion that I can recall. The Consultant Surgeon who performed the new hip operation was an Arab (and he avoided shaking my hand, but it was ok to carve up my body ! odd that). Apart from that, during my schooling and formative years, my teachers were all white and of this country, all of my employers throughout my working life, again were white British, every GP has been the same (a rarity I know). Repair/maintenance men, postmen, again no differing cultures, so I’ve clearly managed to manoeuvre my way through life without the help of migrants. I wonder if I should go on a panel show to challenge the likes of Yasmin and Afua !!!
ask me how my life has been enhanced and enriched by immigrants and their descendants, my family knows what white flight is all about and the ensuring costs of ending up in culturally enriched areas. If only I could move where it couldn’t follow me.
EU immigration hasn’t adversely affected me , but has affected my friends (polish plumbers natch)
Successive penny-pinching governments have thought it economic to recruit ready trained surgeons from abroad instead of training their own citizens.

BBC tv news headlines the disruption at Gatwick airport this morning lamenting the inconvenience to passengers. Apparently drones were spotted near the runway.
The BBC report’s concern for the public is ironic since just days ago the Victoria Derbyshire show lionised a small group of protesters who had illegally disrupted Stanstead airport flights because they wanted to prevent a deportation flight carrying failed asylum seekers from taking off.
One can but wonder if there was an attempt to stop. More foreign criminals being deported . I don’t think we’d ever find out in case it becomes a standard technique .
Should families argue about Brexit over Christmas dinner, asks BBC Breakfast?
There’s a classic bit of BBC guest selection as a rather tubby northern & rather effeminate young man invited onto the hallowed red sofa explains that although all his family – both older and some younger members – are Leavers, he of course as the BBC guest is a Remainer.
There’s a further moment of comedy gold as the suggestion is made that Naga might act as the ‘neutral’ mediator.
Yes. The BBC’s gossipy, spin-driven model of reporting not only advantages the existing operators, but ultimately undermines democratic politics & political journalism. https://t.co/dR6LFwelHB
I woke up early this morning and switched on Toady (to be honest it can often send me back to sleep) but I heard Robinson talking with Norman Smith about what Corbyn did or didn’t say yesterday in Parliament. On the one hand when Rene in Allo Allo calls his wife ‘You stupid woman’, I just laugh. And probably if Corbyn called me that I would laugh too as when someone so low in my esteem mumbles something like that I really could not get upset.
But it was the way that it was handled. Smith was saying it was all a fuss created by the whips and one he saw was smiling in the lobby and had put a thumbs up to someone else (could that have been about something else altogether?) Robinson finished the discussion with something like, ‘Corbyn didn’t say it’. But of course the big thing is that it is obvious that Corbyn did say it and was happy to come back and lie about it. There is also the angle that The Speaker was again taking Labour’s side.
I was also waiting to hear details of a female MP found guilty of peverting the course of justice. No, nothing.
By time the Robinson Smith exchange was over, I was wide awake, and got up to do some ironing without a radio on.
A female, Labour party MP who is also black and a solicitor, is found guilty of committing serious crimes and repeatedly lying to try and cover it. She will almost certainly be going to prison and almost certainly be struck off from the legal register but not one of the mainstream newspapers has the story on their front page.
Corbyn makes an accurate, harmless comment about May, which happens to be mildly offensive to a few radical women and it makes the front page of all the papers.
Deborah
I have always assumed that quite a lot of Mr Corbyn’s supporters are also strong supporters of political correctness. Hopefully this non-incident will start some of them thinking seriously about the implications of their beliefs regarding free speech.
I may not agree with what the man is alleged to have said but I do support his right to say it. It’s all so damned petty.
A 3m14s video about people struggling on benefits. Not one dark skinned person to be seen anywhere. Strange because the BBC always force multiculturalism on us in their articles but not when showing people on benefits.
I saw most of this ‘struggling on benefits’ last night on the news. I realise that it is awful and these people must be without hope. But why do I always feel we are not being told the whole story? Why is a woman with a NE accent in Hartlepool without family and friends? Where are they? She has a partner and a knife fork and spoon. She has a roof over her head. What benefits is she receiving? What has she done with the housing portion of her benefits and what is left over? The way she was dressed and the duvets in the sitting room suggest not a lot is being spent on heating. Why has she a lot of toiletries but no food? The lady who has lost her husband still has money to colour her hair, and more makeup to wear than she wore at her wedding. What is her disability? Was she left with debts after her husband’s death. She must have known immediately after her husband’s death that she had no money because she said the following week she was at the Job Centre 7 times.
Yes it is obvious that the people highlighted were in a dreadful place in their life, but no explanation from the BBC why that is, or why Universal Credit is to blame.
Interested to see this morning how the BBC was treating the disgraced Peterborough MP and it’s nowhere to be seen unless, of course, you are an avid reader of our national broadcaster’s Cambridgeshire coverage.
I think we also need to know if she was paying tax on income from her Russian lodger/points taker and whether she had informed the DVLA about her apparent disability. I look forward to someone taking the time to follow up on these.
All this faux outrage about someone calling a stupid woman a stupid woman. JHB discussing on Talk Radio this morning.
Then goes on to interview some lefty professor about Trump/North Korea who goes on to say that America is being run by an idiot!
Talk about double standards.
And I take it Clive Myrie, the BBC newsreader, will be sacked for calling Tyson Fury a dickhead, or does he get a free pass because he’s black and works for the state propaganda machine?
I don’t think a general election would solve anything.
The last ge had both labour and Tory assuring us they would leave in their manifesto promises.
Both of them are lying and will not leave.
So.
If a new ge was going to happen we can not believe anything in either manifesto (I don’t know the plural, is it manifestos?) because both parties have blatantly lied to us.
If the Tory’s won do you believe they would do anything different.
If labour won do you think we would leave?
Both would say they will leave and both would either deliver brino or remain if elected.
A third party (UKIP?) could deliver Brexit as we voted for but the voting system we have denies us this choice.
PR could deliver it. Look at the influence the DUP are having.
Anyway, a ge is not the answer (yet)
More referendums (until the eu get a result they allow) is not the answer.
As time goes on, it’s looking like the government may end up leaving on wto rules which is what the 17.4 million voted for.
Democracy by mistake.

The next big mis-selling scandal;
“Were you ever told you would leave the single market? Were you told you would leave the customs union and the jurisdiction of the ECJ?
The government has set aside £39 billion for mis-sold Brexit deals…..”

Or how about mis-sold tv licenses on the basis of the BBC being impartial, unbiased and honest….

EU immigration hasn’t adversely affected me , but has affected my friends (polish plumbers natch)
perhaps I could do a long thread header

Successive penny-pinching governments have thought it economic to recruit ready trained surgeons from abroad instead of training their own citizens.
Successive penny-pinching governments have turned a blind eye to mass immigration to maintain low wages.

Something weird like her bail conditions say she can be out of prison, but has to spend every night in a hotel
.. so she being an unreasonable condition she just stayed in houses instead
full explanation
her previous vid said she kinda expected to be arrested ..and would see people after she gets out again.

typo there “it” not “she”
I meant.. so it (the condition that she stay in a hotel) being an unreasonable condition she just stayed in houses instead.
She couldn’t be expected to pay hotel costs for 9 months when she already owns a house.

Coincidence that Gatwick was then closed a few hours later
Explanation “it was drones”
.. multiple possible scenarios
– Cops are covering up a real terrorist threat
– Or the cops that were supposed to preventing drones got redeployed to arresting Jayda
– Or its a stupid revenge thing from a Jayda supporter
.. I dunno

President Trump pulls his remaining troops out of IRaq. So the BBC get an ex ambassador ( Democrat) to slag mr trump off using our Justin as a cheer leader . Nothing new really but does it ever stop.
I remember tha during the US election campaign Mr Trump said that America would stop playing ‘world policeman’ . So when he carries out his promise the BBC rubbishes him.

apparently it makes it likely the turks will attack the kurds taking the fight away from what the so called BBC say is the “So called Islamic State”
The so called BBC’s analysis … Trump is terrible , they seem to have no view on our fellow NATO members and prospective EU members the Turks

Need to intercept the drone control signal

That I believe was the advice given by a senior civil servant to Heath when joining the Common Market .
Well we’re leaving now so we must swallow it whole and swallow it now , get over the temporary problems and make Britian great again .

Corbyn tells the truth for once in his life, most of the country agree with him, and then he goes and denies it.
Silly fellow doesnt seem to know when to just fess up and make the most of the applause

Spot on Deborah,
What a sad reflection on the state of our MSM.
Truly pathetic.

Was there any mention that an MP was convicted of perverting the course of justice yesterday ?
I didn’t hear anything . Perhaps this will be treated as the normal conduct of politicians now .
Wonder if the lady in question will get time when sentenced . It’s a very serious crime.

Struggling with universal credit in Hartlepool
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/uk-46627877/struggling-with-universal-credit-in-hartlepool

Not the bbc in this case but similar hypocrisy…
All this faux outrage about someone calling a stupid woman a stupid woman. JHB discussing on Talk Radio this morning.
Then goes on to interview some lefty professor about Trump/North Korea who goes on to say that America is being run by an idiot!
Talk about double standards.

WTO RULES OK!
