Close to three years ago a subdued and grim BBC watched Brexit inch past Remain towards the finishing line. And ever since there have been excruciating twists and turns and red lines drawn then crossed by a PM who has vacillated between deceit and bumbling incompetence in her train wreck of a ‘deal’ with the EU.
But surely the final straw (up till now, anyway) was the duplicitous move to chop the ‘deal’ in two and present half of it to be voted on in the hope that this time around it would be regarded as half as bad as it was during previous votes and therefore might pass.
The fist vote failed by 230 votes, the second by less and this one by even less at 58 votes. Perhaps Treason May has been consulting with creative mathematicians and the next step will be to present a third of the deal for a fourth vote. Based on the evident liking for betrayal by those ‘governing’ Britain, it would probably succeed.
IIRC, the EU granted two date extensions which are enshrined in EU Law, trumping UK Brexit Law which says we depart tonight at 11pm.
Under the EU provisions, if the WA fell in Parliament again, we Leave on 12th April, effective the day before, with No Deal. If the WA had passed, then we would have BRINO’d on 22 May and negotiations would have commenced on Part 2 of the Entrapment, er, I mean Withdrawal Agreement on the trading relationship.
There is still a whisper of hope for Brexiteers but the BBC (as Remainers) are currently counting on Brexit now being substantially delayed (another couple of years?) according to this: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news
Whether it’s April or May, the eu has left the possibility of never ending extensions available.
Imagine we get the 1 year extension. Just as it nears the end there will be another extension ‘grudgingly’ allowed, maybe we have to hand over a few billions but the eu will find a way.
Then, when the next extension is coming to an end, the eu will………..
………. you get the picture.
All the MSM saying a general election will make no difference.
That’s rubbish.
It will remove about 400 of the liars and replace them with real brexiteers, perhaps many from UKIP and the new Brexit Party.
Then, we will leave on wto.
Are you as depressed as me with all this crap…
Up2 yes the BBC are pushing the extension or in fact a customs union – completely ignoring what the referendum wording was..and it didnt’ include being a customs union!!!
Emmanuel..I agree the MSM don’t want an election because they know most of the MPs in leave areas who went against the vote will be out and UKIP/Brexit party will make big gains as long as they work together and don’t split the votes..
Chances of leaving without a deal – 5%… because the EU now have the power and will grant as many extensions as they like until the Remainers finally get us to rejoin at a huge cost – unless somebody here with money challenges it..
I did tell you to be careful and read between the lines of what she said a few days ago. Marxist Meg has no intention of resigning. I wonder if she’ll budge if Corbyn is elected !
I’m sorry Thoughtful, why on earth do you carry on with this nonsense that May is a Marxist? Where does this fantasy originate? She’s been a Tory since she was a schoolgirl.
She may be utterly useless. She’s certainly devious. She’s stubborn and couldn’t negotiate he way out of a paper bag. She’s probably the worst PM we’ve had since Eden…
But Marxist?
Jeff – I agree – I don’t remember Mrs May spouting nonsense about ‘seizing the means of production ‘ unlike the real Marxists sitting across the chamber from her .
Jeff,
Agree she is not a Marxist in the sense that many of Corbyn’s supporters are dyed in the wool Marxists awaiting the Marxist revolution. But there is a sense in which May’s attempt at being a progressive in the Tory party earns her the title – it’s her view of the state as the first point in political and social change. That, rather loosely, fits with popular conceptions of a Marxist politician.
Not sure I take your meaning here? Surely you didn’t want Mays treaty to pass?
The country is not a democracy but a ‘parliamentary democracy’ and as I posted earlier, it dates from the civil war when the parliamentarians took the powers of the King to rule over the people.
We might elect them every 5 years, but we are electing our rulers, not our representatives.
I saw your post . You obviously don’t read mine as I’m a no deal brexiter and always have been . I don’t need a reminder of the nature of the unwritten constitution either thanks .are you trolling me Thoughtful ?
Some ‘expert’ on the news today confident that ‘May’s Deal’ will return for a 4th ‘meaningful’ vote…probably in a run off against the best ‘indicative’ vote option…

I think I’m going to become a politician, cos it seems – you have no shame. And a very thick skin.

If May is going to resign when we leave the eu I think she will be the longest serving prime minister ever.

Of course not!

Let’s just hope the ‘rotten Parliament ‘ finds a way to destroy itself after such an undemocratic day .
On the upside – still might get a full brexit on 12 April ….
