I’m confused… in this new climate of not politicising events, some politicians are making political equity by asking us to respect family wishes? Does this also apply in the case of parents of murdered children who aren’t so liberally minded, but would rather string terrorists up by their balls?
Because I’m sure a reporter could find one from the Manchester bombing, London Bridge 1, Westminster, 7/7 etc. But I doubt their voice would be so, err…. politicised.

Meanwhile Merkel buddy Ms v.d.Leyen, who has taken over at he EU, has declared that Germany will now have to pay even larger contributions, now that the UK is leaving.

Perhaps we should stay? Merkel and Corbyn would make such a perfect ideological couple (who would both say anything to be in power), it would be a Commie marriage made in H. Keep drinking the Kool Aid… the grieving father is entitled to his opinion. But the rest of us, who don’t share it and are concerned about our own loved ones and fellow citizens, are entitled to our opinion. And for many it runs along the following lines:
Much tougher sentencing across the board for crimes involving violence and physical harm.
In the case of foreign criminals, deportation and permanent exclusion from the UK upon completion of sentence.
The loss of British citizenship for those who subsequently acquired it rather than being born British.
A switch to a system whereby life actually means life, 20 years means 20 years etc.
Restrictions on immigration from countries where certain types of crime are prevalent e.g. terrorism, knife crime, people smuggling, drug trafficking and so on.
A method whereby those who authorise the early release of prisoners can be held accountable for their decisions (analogy: system of bonds for suspects in the US).
Somehow, one suspects these notions or anyone proposing them will not find any outlet on the BBC.

why does the bBC also refer to NATO as Nato?
In beeb-land all words, including acronyms, are fair game for abuse, misuse and redefinition. The same applies to grammar. bBC employees are more used to texting and tweeting than writing serious copy. This is one of the reasons for the sad demise of the Apostrophe Protection Society mentioned by Fedup2 in an earlier post. In the great scheme of things it doesn’t really matter because we all know our language evolves and changes. However, this lackadaisical approach does reveal an underlying laziness or worse (in the case of the bBC).
UK news editors have adopted a style that where an acronym is pronounced as a word, rather than spelled out letter by letter, they will write it using the same conventions as for a proper noun.
Personally I find it jars when I reading. That is because when we read we recognise patterns and can fill in gaps, both missing letters and words, when we encounter them. Hitting a supposed proper noun in an unexpected position breaks the natural reading flow.
It surprises me that they have adopted this style as I thought that they all supported the fashion of people being described as they describe themselves, i.e. a man calls himself a woman and they all refer to him as Jane not Joe and she not he. Organisations like NATO and NASA self-describe themselves as exactly that. In the words of St. Greta, “How dare they!” mis-name them?

One of the BBCs favoured sons of the empire – a so called comedian called ‘nish?’ ( unhappy spellcheck ) got booed of the stage at a charity bash yesterday for spouting his lefty act – according to the lefty daily mail . They even threw bread rolls at him .
And there’s a bit of footage of him having a go at the audience and the compère having to get him off stage via the Christmas raffle .
I don’t know if the police have been called in and arrest the audience or whether a hate crime was committed or whether counsellors at the BBC will help ‘nish’ through his difficult time .
But it is so pleasing these self important unfunny smug lefties getting a taste .
When they are doing one of their sad ‘comedy ‘ shows they’ve got a tame audience of friends and relatives. They are deluded into thinking they have talent and are ‘funny’. What a shock when reality bites . Hope they refused to pay him.

Funny you should say that, I was talking to a mate just yesterday about BBC Sit Coms when I realised, I’m not sure they make them any more! Time was you couldn’t get moved for 30 minute comedies on the BBC.
In their defence I did laugh like a drain at Vic And Bob’s new show but they’re non political, non BBC and really don’t fit into any category whatsoever.

Start off with a few snide remarks about Boris, move on to Nigel and Brexit voters and finish off with a rib tickler about Donald Trump’s hair or his orange complexion.
These BBC “comedians” don’t have a comedy act, it’s more of a left-wing lecture tour. It goes down well on home turf (in Pseuds’ Corner) where all the silly Guardianista girlies squeal and hoot their appreciation, but it doesn’t travel.

Fed, I have just hit the OFF switch on Tim Harford. I usually like to listen to ‘More or Less’ and Tim & team but this morning it is a special with Tim and team looking at Election manifestos and on-air replies and ‘promises’ from interviews and debates.
The programme has just turned into anti-Bojo ‘sneerfest’. Am not unhappy about people being anti-Bojo as I’m definitely not a fan.
It’s the BBC ‘sneerfest’ on a serious subject at General Election time that I object to.
As to young Andy, well he’s got himself into his own mess. How he, as a trained Royal (and they do get training, not just from HM & hubby, God bless and keep them), could not keep his own diary or have someone keep it for him of where and when he was in certain places and who was present, totally amazes me. It is said that all the brains in ‘the Firm’ went into oldest girl and the youngest lad and passed the other two by. Think we have some evidence of that.
Listening to a clip on BBC R4, when not occupied on other tasks, of one of the female US complainants I was struck by an immediate hole in her sworn testimony that a decent lawyer should be able to drive a truck through. The BBC did her no favours by choice of soundbite, either.

It goes on to say ‘ (the Tories) must come up with a coherent prospectus of their own. So far they have been too defensive, and risk repeating the mistakes of 2017. Repeating the same old mantras becomes stale and irritating, as Theresa May found to her cost. The country is crying out for vision. For inspiration.’
I won’t bore readers with other pertinent quotes but will gently point out the uncanny resemblance to my post at 1338 YESTERDAY. The parallels of the whole piece are un-nerving.

Having read a quote from one lower down this Thread, you have to start saying and writing ‘and like’ a lot more than you do.
The owner of the Ford Ka which killed a Kid in Debden is pictured in the papers, his car was not insured and Police have not yet found him, but even at this stage there appears to be a desperation on their behalf not to get at the truth but to apply some political far right label to him in order to make this a race motivated attack rather than an accident.
The pupil, named locally as Harley Watson is a white kid, but that doesn’t stop a Gestapo force seeing ‘racism’ everywhere believing the real target might have been a Muslim.

I listened to almost an hour of TOADY today from 7.30am and in the main 8am News I felt I was hearing slanted news about the ‘accident’ (?) and the arrest.
Now, that could be because I have been conditioned by this site. Or it could be because I’m learning all the time, adding more experience to a lifetime of radio but especially to my increasing news obsession starting with 1982 and the Falklands Invasion. It could, of course, be due to both.
I think with these police involved events we have to be careful and not rush to judgement.
I did not see or recall Thoughtful’s Friday/weekend post but it seems to me, Fed, that he’s got his facts straight above. Which is not what BBC News & Current Affairs reassured me with this morning during TOADY.
On the subject of Conservative v. Labour, which is what most GEs boil down to, as you may have gathered from post above or below I am aggrieved that I cannot hold Bojo’s feet to the fire for making a right old mess of Brexit and his first 100 days.
I have to say this, however, as non-big-C conservative, I have not seen canvassers for Liberals or received their GE publication. The Independent Candidate sent his poorly written leaflet as junk mail but I’ve seen neither him or any supporters. Perhaps because I’ve communicated with my MP in the recent past, she wrote from the House of Commons to tell me of her legal situation: MP representative reduced to standing candidate but I’ve not received a Labour leaflet or seen any canvassers. That was the same – twice – in the Spring of this year for local and European Elections.
The Conservative candidate was communicating as soon as her nomination to stand was approved by CCO & the local Party. Then another leaflet arrived after canvassers called and I could not get to the door fast enough. (Was probably on here posting.) On a freezing cold day today, the Conservative candidate’s canvassers were back in my road and we got to talk.

I do agree with Thoughtful on the subject of the London Bridge terrorist attack – I Think it’s another example of how full of vitriol lefties are – even when their own beloved are viciously murdered, they can’t blame their own ideals. Didn’t we see similar with the beheaded hiking girls in Morocco?
On the subject of the election, this site helped me make my decision. My constituency only won Labour by a few votes last time, so although I truly wanted to vote Brexit party, it really would have been a wasted vote. It enrages me that after this election, millions of folk will have voted Brexit party and will probably have no representatives in parliament while the snp will probably have 40+, and their own parliament as well. The whole thing stinks.
T, I am very suspicious about the killing of Khan. With him controlled by two members of the public, all the police needed to do – I would have thought – was to make sure his hands were empty and kept in plain sight until fully handcuffed.
I think it would be good to get some of these people into Court to explain themselves and throw some revealing light on all their motivations. Yes, I know it costs a lot of money to keep someone like him locked up & can see a benefit in the outcome on Friday.
I just have some lingering doubts.

It appears to have several scientific holes (ho ho!) in it. For a start it assumes everyones’ natural saliva is PH neutral or alkaline. If what dentists have told me over the years is true, that is not the case.
Then it talks about vitamins essential for tooth and gum health: Vitamin C for the latter and D for the former. Now most Vitamin C should come from a normal diet of fruits (apples, oranges, blueberries – a metro-Libbie fave – tomatoes, peppers, etc.) … which are of course acidic (Oooops! #1) ….. and loaded with sugar (Oooops! #2) in some cases or varying in others.
Memo to BBC: stop campaigning. Your journalists are just not good enough and the facts do not support the campaigns you choose. Just stick to reporting the news and current affairs and stop propagandising.

In fact, following the same pattern in the US where Trump haters who have acted on the dishonest lies about the man, are increasingly being challenged. In most cases, the mere act of challenging avoids physical confrontation and demonstrates these weidoes living in the World on nonsense have no backup position and no substance to their distorted offerings. London Bridge the most recent example of people taking control in the absence of any State guidance. Too little, too late in my opinion – the damage has already been done.

That does prompt me to suggest that where a commentator has a lot to say about a subject, no doubt having put a lot of effort into writing it, wouldn’t it be better if there was a mechanism to make them topics in their own right?
I appreciate that makes more work for someone but long postings are best read as topic headers rather than inline with ‘one-liners’.

I’ve tried putting up separate threads but there isn’t the discipline to stay on that subject and a few people don’t read the heading .
In fact a lot of people ‘ bomb ‘ this site – that is my term for turning up – dumping whatever they have on their mind – closing the bomb doors and going somewhere else . In my view this is a bit disrespectful to those who ‘engage ‘ and exchange views but I suppose that is what social media is .
I’ve thought about giving up on moderating this as it does take a bit of time and I used to read every entry to see if anything considered banned it thrown in – particularly during times when people are’ tired and emotional ‘
Now I don’t read them all carefully because of that ‘ bombing ‘ thing I described . Also – a few posters are so full of anger that I can’t take reading the same rant over and over again . So I trawl first bad words and leave it there .
There are other moderators but they seem a bit rare at the moment . And if Labour get in as either a full government or SNP / Lib coalition I’ll drop this site as it really will become a waste of time – it will also land up on a ‘ banned list ‘.

Well, I’ve agreed to be an overseer of the vote counting in the local constituency on behalf of the Brexit Party. This means keeping an eye on the vote counting as well as agreeing or not agreeing to whether a ballot paper has been spoiled or not. The duties also include overseeing the postal vote counting.
I’m sworn to all sorts of secrecy and so forth, so no sneaky posts on here from me while I’m there but I’m sure it will be an interesting evening, especially as I will be adorned with VIP badges (VIP in my eyes haha).
I’m just trying to relate this to the BBC bias, (like contestants do nervously on ‘Just a Minute’ when trying to guide their monologue to the subject matter). Whilst driving I caught the first two episodes of the BBC R4 afternoon drama “Massachusetts Avenue.”
The story concerns the joint activities of US – UK secret service operatives.
Despite the fact that the key storyline is based on suspected Soviet nasty tricks (Making all the traffic lights in London stick at red for instance), The entire story has the BBC running through it like a torrent. In the story, UK and US participants do not lose any opportunity to have a go at Trump and Boris. In addition the key UK agent lady turns out to be a lesbian who is planning a donor pregnancy so she and her “wife” can have a chlld as they carefully go over a list of donors credentials offered. Their main concern was to ensure that the offspring would be in their own mould intellectually and politically, i.e. very left.
Up pops a Ukrainian operative lady subversive to help them who is obviously designed to portray the best of correct Communist thinking.
Then up pops a UK ambassador who spouts the nasty public-school, white, middle-aged white-man British rhetoric.
I won’t be going back for any more of this indoctrination any time soon!
