As a matter of interest I looked at the BBC comments section to their mask report.

Fascinating that the two top zorro-leaning comments are on-message with the BBC.

    First play dumb:

‘Wear them…no don’t….wait a minute, be nice and wear one, but not if you don’t want to. That’s nice and clear then.’

Then the next face-nappy-keen numpty accuses the British public of being dumb:

‘To everyone saying leave it to common sense, do you really believe everyone in England has common sense in abundance? Is that not a dangerous assumption?’

One ponders. If only it were not for that close run Brexit vote. Oh, how much higher would be the estimation of general UK IQ in the eyes of the Beeboid media class.

    8pm Radio4 Illegal immigrants
Pictures of jubilant refugees landing on the UK shores throughout lockdown have been a regular feature in the news: their long and dangerous journeys investigated by Sue Mitchell

    Expect emotional blackmail
Last year, Sue met a 14 year old girl who was single-handedly talking to smugglers and raising the money from relatives who had already reached the UK.
She details what happens as she and her siblings make the dangerous journey and she reflects on her new life in Britain.

Stew – I think I have finally sussed out the governments “strategy” for controlling immigration. You let in biblical numbers of migrants from completely different and often hostile cultures which then turn the country into a copy of the same 3rd world shithole that they have come from.

Hence they will stop wanting to come here anymore because they will be no better off here than there and if they stay there at least they can carry on with many of their unsavoury pastimes and customs in the sun.

      Its brilliant!

Yes I posted it about it the other day
#1 AB is not liked in the theatre industry
They say it’s cos, he’s homophobic blah blah
He says that the real reason is cos he speaks his mind
and gave honest reviews instead of playing their PR game
#2 Someone made up a remarkable email with huge claims against AB
A bedroom blogger put it up
AB said take it down, apologise and name the BBC source that sent it to you
#3 Bedroom boy took it down apologised but wouldn’t name the source.
#4 AB said look you left the clues so I know its the loony Radio Northampton DJ
Neither the guy or the BBC would confirm nor deny
#5 Instead the BBC said AB was harassing
#6 Another theatre reviewer made a video repeating the claims
then when AB protested he sent a Tweet to Vine saying he was being harassed
Vine stupidly said the reviewer seems like a good guy so AB must be bad
#7 AB looks in his database and starts making a fuss about Vine misappropriating £1000 instead of giving it back to the licence payer
#8 BBC sends the police twice to AB’s house with a view to arrest for harassment
#9 AB starts a crowdfunder to sue the BBC
#10 AB gets an anonymous tip off that theatre review guy had changed his name by one letter and the reason he did this is cos he has a history of fraud and has served jailtime from when he worked at Barclaycard.
#11 AB is now inciting his listeners to phone in to Vine and ask about the £1,000, with a prize of 1,000p if they do.

but the discussion was rubbish, Collins is only half redpilled

‘oh this footballer is upset , there must be an easy way to ban the N-word”
FFS that is so naive ..The word is not banned in the US and plenty of black people use it
Then when the trolls use they are just doing playground stuff
they’ll find a way round anyway.

Then Collins brings on Weyman Bennett as a voice of authority
FFS he is from Socialist Voice as well as being high in UAF
Collins should have mentioned this context
Bennett gets a quick dig at Tommy Robinson, which is wrong cos he’s not a racist. & always done Black & White unite stuff.

Andrew Bridgen is the Conservative MP for North West Leicestershire (that doesn’t touch the city)
and he has been working extensively to expose the appalling conditions revealed last week that there are thousands of people in Leicester working in modern slavery conditions.

Mr Bridgen told Iain that “there are probably 10,000 modern slaves in Leicester” in about 250 of these “sweatshops” and he said that they have gone under the radar for such a long time because “the city council don’t inspect them.”

So, pretty soon, we’ll all be forced to wear these hideous face nappies just to get into Sainsbury’s or to buy a pint of milk. It’s as clear as day.

Scotland’s mini dictator, Kim Jong Sturgeon, is already forcing the Jocks to do it and Kier Von Stomper wants it here. Boris is looking confused and saying says he’s thinking about it. We all know what that means…

I heard some daft bint being interviewed on the radio this afternoon. When she was asked about wearing the face nappy she giggled and said she didn’t mind. “It’s just another item of clothing” she said, “just like putting on your trousers.” No it’s not. It’s entirely different. We’ve been wearing normal clothes since we left the Garden of Eden, only ne’er do wells ever wore masks.
This face muzzle is odd and dehumanising and strangely creepy. The fact that it will also soon be compulsory is incredibly depressing.
When your government can even tell you what to wear you’re no longer living in a free country. But they’ve been building up to this for months. Stay indoors. Stand this side of the line. Walk this way. Don’t go there…This is just more control.

You know, a few months ago if I’d donned a mask and walked into my local bank I’d have been arrested.
Now I’ll get arrested if I’m not wearing one…

Praying five times each day to ‘RNHS’?

In the ‘olden days’ we put infectious people into isolation wards/hospitals. The old ones didn’t even have linking corridors.

Potentially sick people were quarantined. The legislation that the government started with was based on this but they turned it back-to-front, they locked up the healthy.

Similarly with simple masks, originally used to stop (mild) infections from operating theatre staff being passed to open wounds, not to stop healthy people passing (what?) to other healthy people. Have the supermarkets had mass virus outbreaks within their staffs? They have been open all the time and their staff huddle together all the time.

There was also a sign saying the driver will not be challenging anybody so not to bother him if you see somebody whose face is uncovered. Then there was yet another sign saying some people have health conditions which mean they should not wear a mask. So whose job is it to enforce all this and to decide who should be fined?

    Housing decision

A judge has ruled that blanket bans on renting properties to people on housing benefit are unlawful and discriminatory. The case – brought by a single mother of two – has been described as “momentous” by housing charity Shelter. A survey it commissioned at the start of this year found nearly two-thirds of private landlords either do not, or prefer not to, let to people on housing benefits.

Can’t imagine why. When ours went on benefits they diverted the rent from us to continue funding the booze and fags.

Will women have to work harder after the pandemic?

Like many successful career women, Simone Ramos feels she’s had to work harder than any man to get to the top. A high-flying executive and risk manager for global insurance group THB in Sao Paulo, Ms Ramos is also an adviser for the Brazilian association of women in the insurance market. She tells younger women they can reach the top with “focus, determination and clear goals”. But like other experts, she is concerned about the extra pressures being put on women’s careers during the pandemic – and whether this can end up pushing them back.

And who will make atonement for the thousands of white slaves traded through Plantation ships from the UK & Europe to the Americas? Lloyds of London have no right to use underwriters money-if individual people wish to make such insincere payments in some sort of duplicitous venture then, that is up to them. I am sick of this blame being shown as all one sided-many countries within Europe and outwith Europe were heavily involved in the slave trade, for centuries and in particular black African traders and Arab traders, perhaps they should also be included in the reparations movement.

“…many in Poland are uneasy about the government’s attempts to introduce a more illiberal democracy.” says the BBC in its report about President Andrzej Duda’s win in Poland’s election.

I wonder who at the BBC has decided that the incumbent (right of centre) government is attempting to make Poland illiberal? And what is it that is being introduced that so upsets those at the BBC?

Am I naive? Have the retail giants done their calculations and reckoned they can game this panic by saving high street rents and going on line and door step delivery. No wonder our borders are wedged wide open. They will need the cheap labour for delivery drivers.

AISI, I think it will disappear fairly quickly when some scientists start pointing out that face covering by law is pointless unless you add compulsory gloves to the face mask rules.

Stew Green has already explained on here how a mask does need to be used properly.

That really requires a hand (with a protective glove removed) to make any adjustments to the mask or to touch the face and neck near the mask – and then for the glove to be replaced before touching anything that may be touched by another person within a shop.

If Covid-19 cases still increase, mask wearing will be deemed to have no effect and there will be pressure to have it scrapped.

If Covid-19 cases continue their gradual fall, compulsory face covering again will be shown to have no effect and there will be pressure for the rule to be scrapped.

Compulsory face covering will only be continued, I would have thought, if there is a dramatic sudden fall in infections after it is made mandatory. Watch this space.

Next week’s Radio Times has a front page, ‘I love the NHS’ and inside is a message from the editors ‘NHS for ever’, followed by no less than five whole pages of ‘Thank you NHS’ from the great and the good. Like Stephen Fry and Andrew Marr (I wonder how many of them actually use private healthcare-which they can easily afford).

It’s all an advert for a programme on the 23rd, ‘Dear NHS superstars’

So many supporters of an unaccountable, untouchable nationalised industry. But what pray are we thanking them for ?

Letting people out of hospitals back to care homes when they have Coronavirus?
Acute facilities in Cornwall, where the Coronavirus death rate is 60%, versus under 15% in the best areas?

Cover ups and rotten performance in Mid Staffs?
    And Shrewsbury? And Bristol?

TOADY Watch #1 – BBC in a bit of a bind

30 mins of the prog endured today. News about face masks puts the BBC in a difficult place. The BBC would obviously like to criticise the PM and the Government for a U-turn, a U-turn that doesn’t make sense and a U-turn that introduces draconian measures.

Draconian measures fund the BBC. The BBC have taken a draconian measure against 75 year old pensioners. Those who live in glass houses cannot start throwing rocks at everyone and everything in Government without putting their own house at risk.

On face masks I think the gov can be given a small benefit of the doubt. Or more precisely, being in a cleft stick.

It is a fine balance. The act of wearing a mask and the handling of it afterwards is a big transmission risk if it has some virus on it. How many wearers wash or discard straight after use, having also washed their hands before and after? Exactly. Almost no-one. It also creates a false sense of security. Do you remember when front seat belts were made compulsory? Rear seat injuries went up! I rest my case.
Not wearing a mask prevents virus build up. But wearing would save you if a carrier coughed all over you. Which some pig ignorant people will.

But no doubt at all that asymptomatic transmission is reduced by wearing.
So in the ideal scenario, everyone would be wearing a mask except you/ me !!!!

But of course there is a perception that wearing a mask MUST be beneficial and so I suspect the science is being ditched in favour of the popular perception of people…….some of the same masses who flood Bournemouth beach on a sunny day.

    Oh, well.

    • Up2snuff says:

Sluff, compulsory seat belt wearing also kills up to 20* people a year in the UK where drivers or front seat passengers are trapped or thrown against ‘A’ or ‘B’ pillars or windows or internally injured by the belts themselves.

The thing about masks is (I listed the downsides at the weekend) that unless you make glove use also compulsory in shops, the face mask legislation is pretty much of none effect. One of the downsides I listed was that they produce a false sense of security in everyone which may lead to carelessness.

The thought struck me this morning that the last time I really noticed someone coughing in a supermarket was way back on the Saturday before the PM announced the lockdown on Monday 23 March 2020. Can’t say that that has happened – at all – since then.

(* I think that is the worst ever figure for annual seat belt deaths but could be wrong or just out of date on that stat.)

‘But of course there is a perception that wearing a mask MUST be beneficial and so I suspect the science is being ditched in favour of the popular perception of people’

AISI, think we have evidence from either HK, SK or Singapore, where someone sat in a seat for an evening church service that had been occupied by someone in the morning service who had just returned from a visit to China. That was a person>surface>person transmission.

In China, HK, SK, Japan and Singapore the wearing of face masks was routine pre-Covid-19 when outdoors in cities because of pollution. Tourists from those countries even wear face masks in London because of perceived traffic fumes. So do some cycle messengers.

None of that routine outdoor face-mask-wearing stopped transmission of Covid-19 in those countries from October/November 2019-on, did it?

The bottom line is that whether masks are marginally protective or not they are a clear outward sign of fear of infection. Now from that basis as a policy one decides whether one wants to extend that fear?

Boris has been bullied into extending the fear. Clearly it was not his first instinct but he has caved in to pressure. I think he has miscalculated. He has underestimated the increased economic and social damage and over-estimated any small praise he will get. There’s quite a bit on droplet transmission distances and quite a bit on asymptomatic transmission. Though Aslt above is not wrong. 2m is a risk-compromise distance. There’s no cliff-edge distance. But a general 2m message is a whole lot easier to understand than e.g. ‘1.97m on a Tuesday if you are in a queue at the bookmakers with only a small window open’.
In the interests of open-ness here are the complications.
        https://www.cebm.net/covid-19/what-is-the-evidence-to-support-the-2-metre-social-distancing-rule-to-reduce-covid-19-transmission/

There’s also my own data point. A guest in our garden was speaking and the low sun was at just the right angle to show his shower of spittle falling to the ground in an arc. Readers may be happy to be unmasked and well within 2m of such a person but it’s not for me.
The irony was …he had already had the virus.

So I’m certainly cautious and being face to face with someone at a 1 m distance. Especially if they have the virus but don’t know they have because they have no symptoms.

I can confirm this. On many occasions before lockdown when driving (and yep, you’re right about the angle of the sun), and I’ve been chatting away to a passenger, I’ve noticed my own ‘spray’ emanating from my mouth – which is not normally visible to the naked eye. When I first saw this happen, I did think wow! that’s not good, but its something out of our control because we’re not aware of it happening.

Multiply this occurrence by trillions and its perfectly feasible how bacteria is spread around. Coughing and sneezing is a visual thing, so knowing its happening we move aside, but unseen mouth spray is a different matter – particularly within the confines of a car !

    So, here goes.

I know what I know. I don’t know what I don’t know. I used to rely on various sources for the latter. Now I am at best dubious. Almost no one, including supposedly rigorous scientists, appears to either have a clue or the ability to resist ideological influences.

So I currently rely on experience and common sense.

My wife and I are ‘at risk’. Our kids are now back from Uni. They went through internal quarantine. We cooked and fed them and they wore masks and had their own bed and shower room and dined there too.

We as a family walk the dogs and socially distance.

A nice man just delivered some DIY stuff… might as well be productive as no freelance money. He was not wearing any PPE. We were. Masks, goggles and gloves. Latter disposed of after removing and binning packaging. Items to be left for a few days.

We have needed to to go out to town. Rarely. Feel for the retailers. Full PPE. Not great… no biggie. No problem walking on the side of street designated. No problem wearing masks in shops for a wee while. Masks straight into washer back down. Goggles wiped down with Don wipes. Gloves disposed after proper removal.

It protects others from us and if they wear them it protects us from them… however ‘it’ emerges and travels. Pure logic and physics and a bit of biology and chemistry.

I will not be having any rushed vaccine injected no matter what. I was the Thalidomide generation, and lucky my folks had their doubts.

I find the current government a bad joke in thrall of worse bad jokes. Never has politics of the least bad seemed so dangerous and frustrating.

The only thing worse is opportunistic opposition entities, political and media.

    Be well.

    FIN.
