The free TV licence For the over 75s ends on 1 August . If someone is on ‘pension credit ‘ through low income – they will continue to be free of the TV licence if over 75 . But over a million people who are entitled to pension credit have not applied and claimed it . I found out about this on a leading financial website aimed at saving people money …..

What happens when the world’s population shrinks?

Falling fertility rates could mean most countries see their populations shrink by the end of the century. The world will have to begin to reckon with the consequences of a smaller, older population. For lower-income countries, a falling birth-rate could spell better living standards. A smaller number of children each get a bigger piece of the pie, whether that’s health or education.

But in countries where fertility rates have already been falling for years, shrinking further could cause problems. These countries will have to work out how to care for a growing older population, with fewer younger people to work as carers and to pay into the system.

Jonathan Freedland writes for the Guardian so obviously has his own program on Radio 4 called The Long View. My radio turned onto his program and I heard the immortal BBC/Guardian logic: Amazon and Netflix are successful thus they should fund the Guardian reading lovey theatres who make plays for Guardian reading loveys.

Oddly, not only did his guests agree with him but none mentioned the £3.5 billion the BBC gets for making programs for Guardian loveys. So why not share that around?

  4. DickMart says:

The BBC today carry a video report on the front page of their website, in the “Must see” section, with the headline “Black women are killed by police too”, and no further qualification.

The BBC is a UK organisation funded by UK viewers. One therefore might suppose that, unless otherwise indicated, reports refer to events in the UK. In fact, over the last 20 years only one woman has been killed by the police in the UK: Ann Sanderson in 2007, and she was white.

Opening up the report, it is clear that it refers rather to the position in the USA, where the histories both of police violence and race relations are entirely different to those in the UK.

In view of the already dangerous and absurd conflation between the situation in the USA and the UK, with implications for serious public disorder here, one would have thought that the BBC would tread more carefully and responsibly. What are they up to – or is it just incompetence?

    • Jeff says:

DickMart, I’m afraid you’re being far too generous if you think the BBC is just incompetent.
      They’re devious and dangerous.
As you so rightly observe the conflation between the UK and US is absurd. They fully know this. They’ve been stirring the pot since the death of George Floyd. It’s as though they were waiting for something like this and have grabbed this opportunity with both hands. Both BBC2 and BBC4 have given us hours of programmes all geared to provoking a reaction. “The Windrush Scandal”, there was a lovely piece about the US police killing an “unarmed black man” that dates back decades, oh and of course, the ubiquitous pieces about Stephen Lawrence and the slave trade….

The BBC isn’t a grown up organisation behaving like impartial journalists. They’re deliberately inciting people using the sort of poisonous propaganda that the KGB would have been proud of.
When your state broadcaster deliberately acts against the state it owes its very existence to then what you have are 21st century fifth columnists.

      They’re treacherous, dangerous and despicable.

Hi Dickmart, it is wilful, it is done on purpose, and it runs through the entirety of the BBC. It is often so blatant it is insulting to the intelligence.

That nothing is done about it at an official level speaks volumes. Some politicians have spoken out at times but only when it addresses them directly but they soon let it go (e.g. Rees-Mogg).

The indoctrination occurred in the universities, it spread into the schools, and from there into society. This has been occurring for many many years. It has taken over the BBC as it has taken over other institutes.

I didn’t hear the PM promise an independent inquiry now – or any inquiry now – and he said – in essence – the state is a bit busy now dealing with it . I agree on that . Surely it would be better to be planning for worst case and increasing resourcing , testing , PPE , training – than playing inquiry games and ‘lessons will be learnt – which in the circumstances of this pandemic is happening as we go .

The next bad bug could be far worse is so many ways and that should be planned for as well …..

I’m afraid Blair took the power off the HS and indeed the Government ad a whole, when he cleverly and slyly set up the SC and packed with his placement and women. Only by getting rid of the SC or replacing its members with ones who better reflect the views of the country can we get decisions like this one overturned.

The BBC seem to have special teams that kick into action whenever a story they want to promote breaks. This is the case for Shamima Begum. They have written several articles rejoicing her imminent return to the UK to fight for her citizenship rights. They have written “explainer” articles showing her before she became radicalized looking like an ordinary vulnerable girl. Articles are being “updated” as their expert propaganda writers are being told to polish up the articles.

@Pugnacious brought Cannon up yesterday, but then he confused me by mixing this new story up with a 2015 case from Toronto.
I now understand was that his point is that there is a thread of strong anti-white racism within BLM

Later @Luton Reject brought up the BBC article
    with its headline
“US TV host fired by MTV owner in anti-Semitism row”
focusing on one aspect o his controversial new Public Enemy interview
The reader doesn’t find out that Cannon said anything at all about white people until the end of the article.
    where is just quietly says
he “suggested white people were less than black people”.
Apparently the BBC decided we didn’t need to know that he called white people “savages”, that he also said “the only way that they can act is evil” and that whites “have to rob, steal, rape, kill in order to survive”.

i can’t see what edit games the BBC have been playing with the original article

Hi Guest Who, thanks for this.

Dr Charlotte Riley is just one of an army of indoctrinated young white feminist activists straight out of completing their feminist doctorates who lectures others, especially those of the lower / less “educated” classes.

      From her Staff Webpage:
      Dr Charlotte Lydia Riley
      University of Southampton
      Lecturer in Twentieth-Century British History.
      And Equality & Diversity Officer.

I am a feminist historian of twentieth century Britain, with particular focus on the Labour Party, decolonization, and overseas aid and development programmes. More broadly, I am interested in the culture of British politics and society in the twentieth century.

I teach across a variety of topics in modern British social, cultural and political history, including women’s history in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, the history and memory of the Second World War, the 1960s as a British cultural moment, and the long and tangled history of the Labour Party. I would be interested in supervising research students across these topics and my research interests more widely. I also convene our first year core course, World Histories: Contact, Conflict and Culture from Ancient to Modern.

David Parton, who created one of the petitions, said he was “shocked” by the absence of the feelings toward minority communities.
“Only the complete removal of the statue will show the council is serious about racism.
“Clive will fall, it’s not a matter of if, but when. It beggars belief we have to argue this when his legacy resulted in millions of deaths. It’s quite demoralising, this decision.”

It is amazing what an Oxford University education does to the young, impressionable, privileged mind – in this case David Parton’s mind.

ps: He now seems to be a “Communications Executive” in London and an outspoken LGBTQ and Woke activist

      David Parton
David joined the Investment Association (IA), the investment management trade body, as a Communications Executive in the summer of 2018. Part of his motivation to begin a career at the IA was the IA’s work to mark Pride in London 2018: through its ‘Bringing Our Whole Selves to Work’ guide to the LGBTQ experience in asset management, and the incorporation of the rainbow flag into the IA’s logo. As an openly gay person throughout all of his adult life, the IA’s positive steps to demonstrate its inclusiveness to LGBTQ people, whether that’s employees, members or interview candidates, left a really positive mark.

David hopes to help strengthen LGBTQ networks within the IA, and utilise the IA’s nexus position within the asset management industry to support sector-wide initiatives to make LGBTQ people feel more comfortable, welcome and celebrated at work.

David graduated with a Law degree from the University of Oxford, before then working in communications and media relations for the Local Government Boundary Commission for England (LGBCE). At the LGBCE, he changed the Commission’s processes to remove references to gendered pronouns in external communications, unless a recipient’s gender was explicitly known or provided.

Whilst at Oxford, he was an active LGBTQ advocate, serving as the LGBTQ Officer for his College, where he secured gender neutral toilets on campus, and volunteered as the Publicity Officer for the Oxford University LGBTQ Society.

BTW there is a fallacy in the #BiasedBBC headline
“Two petitions calling for the statue’s removal had 23,000 signatures between them.”
The two are not mutually exclusive
A lot of people will have signed both
so you can’t added the two together
      and claim 23,000 signatures

If it wasn’t for “repressively heterosexual” communities, the human race would die out. In reality, he wants to replace the white race with foreign migrants, to whom he subconsciously believes that he is superior to. If you spend your life campaigning for minorities, you must think them to be inferior and so need a helping hand.

In the words of John F. Kennedy we really do need to “replace a few enemies with a few friends.” I’m not exactly sure what he meant by that but if we are now experiencing his intended outcome then he was mistaken in the extreme.

I don’t know but I would advise (a) being watchful when crossing the road (b) don’t make the fatal mistake of dying at 79 and (c) pray that you have been issued with some good strong genetic material. The rest is down to luck.

    Just a comparison…
About a year (or so) ago, Carl Benjamin, a well know right wing blogger, found himself in a Twitter spat with Labour big gob, Jess Phillips. After quite a bit of toing and froing, Carl said something (a tad unfortunate) along the line of…”I wouldn’t even rape you.” Not a pleasant thing to say, but…

There followed months of manufactured indignation and hostile media scrutiny, particularly from our state broadcaster. I remember him being interviewed by sour faced, Victoria Derbyshire and the way she spoke to him and the disapproving expression she had, you’d have thought he was a child rapist. Though, come to think of it on the Beeb…

Then this evening, on the mind numbingly puerile, One Show, there were two typical BBC airheads interviewing Miriam Margolyes. You remember this charmer?
Just a few weeks ago she said she had hope Boris would die of Covid.

Now, is it just me? Don’t you think that such a foul and distasteful remark might require some sort of response? Boris isn’t just our prime minister, his partner has also just given birth to a son. I think it’s an unforgivably disgusting thing to say.

Clearly the BBC are rather more tolerant than I am. Miriam has just had a nice cosy chat with a couple of gormless, insipid twerps .
Mind you, with views like Miriam’s,

I’m surprised she’s not been given her own show…

This is the same lady who, on broadcast British TV, was permitted to refer to President Trump as, and I quote, “A piece of shit.” OK that’s free speech BUT would I be permitted to iterate a similar sentiment about Saint Nelson Mandela or Allah and have NO screams of NAZI and RACIST? Of course not. The MSM need to reset its agenda or risk a British civil war.

Pug – does make one wonder if the current ‘Tory?’ Government will ever give the BBC the payback it deserves about it’s coverage of Brexit – the traitor Parliament – the election coverage – as well as the stuff that has happened this year so far .
At least the starting point will be a rapid decriminalisation …then perhaps an inquiry about the future of the BBC in the run up to the Charter Review ….but trying to find a fair non bubble ‘group ‘ to fairly examine the stuff which turns up here are with out friends in other sites will be an achievement ….

Sometimes I think even the ‘mildly right ‘ elements of the bubble have no idea what the BBC is putting out all the time ….or thar OFCOM is not Independant …..

What about article 2 of the Human Rights Act?

‘Public authorities should also consider your right to life when making decisions that might put you in danger or that affect your life expectancy.’

Clearly seditious, treacherous female Extremist Muslims have more rights than ordinary patriotic taxpaying British people, including the right to make judges ignore article 2.

So no surprises whose side the BBC will be on.
