Fuel duty and vehicle excise duty revenues amounted to 37 billion pounds ($51.2 billion) in the 2019/20 financial year, equivalent to 1.7% of economic output, it said.19 Oct 2021
      ….
They represent a significant source of revenue for government. In 2019-20 fuel duty raised £28 billion. That represented 3.3 per cent of all receipts and was equivalent to £1,000 per household and 1.2 per cent of national income.

Sunday R4 had the second part of the drama/lecture about the Demerara slave uprising
A prog totally lacking in balance
The two episodes amounted to a 2 hour party political broadcast for Whitey must pay reparation Party

eg the writer Thomas Harding used the trope
“In modern Britain black women are 4 times as likely to die in pregnancy as white women”
BBC More Or Less has debunked this trope before
British born women whether white or black stand almost zero chance of dying in childbirth.

Something like 10 women a year do ..2 are white and 8 are recent immigrants from Africa .. whose body has ben influenced by what conditions they underwent in years in Africa
It seems it’s not NHS racism.

Guess which politician th writer chose to include ?

“But in many countries of the Anglophone Caribbean, the life of a woman like Tricia holds a singular paradox: Women have more years of secondary school education and enroll in tertiary education institutes more than men, yet once outside the gilded doors of academia women are confronted by challenges such as lower pay, lack of parental support, insufficient protection from violence and harassment, and other obstacles to career progression. ”

“Working in male-dominated environment, Tricia is likely to encounter sexual harassment, that will impact her emotional wellbeing, career options and, ultimately the success of the companies where she will work. According to National Women’s Health Surveys, 25% of women in Suriname and 24% of women in Jamaica have experienced sexual harassment (the highest prevalence in the region among the countries for which data is available). ”

I haven’t listened to BBC radio for four or five years and I found it too much to stomach even back then, but judging from the title of this programme it seems to have deteriorated to something thoroughly repulsive . Surely this is in fact a programme which will further divide a society which has already become fractured along ethnic lines. If the BBC wants to create racial tensions than this type of programme will certainly do it.

David Lammy is a tragic individual because he doesn’t appear to be able to focuse on anything other than his personal obsession/delusion of black people being victims and white people abusing them.

There doesn’t appear to be any rational reason for his constant ranting and raving in regard to this, not today in 21st Century Britain, at least as far as I can see?

Is it a form of paranoia maybe? Or an obsessive compulsive disorder? Either way, it’s a form of mental illness, and the man clearly needs help.

Prostitution in Ukraine is illegal but widespread and largely ignored by the government.[1] In recent times, Ukraine has become a popular prostitution and sex trafficking destination. Ukraine is a source, transit, and destination country for women and children trafficked transnationally for the purposes of commercial sexual exploitation. Ukraine’s dissolution from the Soviet Union, saw the nation attempt to transition from a planned economy to a market economy. The transition process inflicted economic hardship in the nation, with nearly 80% of the population forced into poverty in the decade that followed its independence.[2] Unemployment in Ukraine was growing at an increasing rate, with female unemployment rising to 64% by 1997.[3] The economic decline in Ukraine made the nation vulnerable and forced many to depend on prostitution and trafficking as a source of income.[4] Sex tourism rose as the country attracted greater numbers of foreign tourists.[1][5]

Also, the Ukrainian people were derogatorily labeled by the Polish media as poor, corrupt, criminal, HIV-positive and undemocratic.[13] As a result, in 2012 there was an outbreak of hysteria over “sex tourism” among Ukrainian soccer fans. At the peak of the obsession, roving gangs of local vigilantes even attacked foreigners who ordered prostitutes, and posted the videos of beatings online.[7]

BBC WEB-SITE Watch #1 – now that is interesting!

I have wondered for some time whether the BBC would be trying to muddy things a little with the Covid statistics: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-51768274. Now it becomes apparent that they are playing politics with the Pandemic, Partygate and Putin. The BBC have changed the numbers again. Recently they started at weekends to update the top two boxes in chart no.1 ‘Deaths’ and ‘Total Confirmed Cases’, now they have stopped. Instead today, they present a deceptive ‘Total Confirmed Cases’ number for three days, Saturday, Sunday and Monday. That makes it appear to the fast and too casual reader that the new infections are rocketing upward.

    Very deceptive. Very devious.

Typical BBC that cannot be trusted.

    • StewGreen says:

Actually the government no longer releases Covid stats at the weekend

      • Up2snuff says:

Stew, although they do mention that, as I put in my post, to the fast and too casual reader it makes it appear that the infections are increasing. In addition, I cannot believe that the BBC if they asked and really wanted to present accurate Covid infection figures could not obtain the numbers for Saturday and Sunday and present them on each relevant day. Remember this is the BBC that had the “power” to send Nick Robinson to Kyiv in a war zone and then brought him back again instead of sending him to Poland (a shorter distance) than pulling Mishal Husain from London out to Poland to to their border with Ukraine.

I take your point about a weekly trend watch but that can be done quite separately – if the BBC really wanted to but they do not.

What the BBC are doing here is apparently playing politics because the Labour leader is so lame.

              • Up2snuff says:

Stew, four day rising trend is often matched by a four day falling trend (or at least a net fall if one day is an outlier) – the key thing for a major impartial broadcaster is to be impartial (and consistent) with the numbers. The BBC are not.

                Why?

                BBC = extra Labour Party.

                Labour Party = BBC

                The BBC is not impartial.

It beggars belief that an organisation the size and influence (it is claimed) can be so careless over Covid numbers.

Petition to revoke Tony Blair’s knighthood hits 1m signatures

      …..

The Archbishop of Canterbury has challenged former prime minister Tony Blair on how he handles feelings of guilt, in a series for BBC Radio 4.

Mr Blair, a Catholic, told the Most Rev Justin Welby his faith had helped him cope with knowing people disliked him.

The programme, part of The Archbishop Interviews series, included questions about the Iraq war, Afghanistan and negotiating the Good Friday Agreement.

“I had to do what I thought was the right thing,” Mr Blair said.

He said the decisions he took were complicated and warned people not to trust politicians who told them “simple slogans”.

He said people should “at least respect the fact of that complexity rather than reduce it to something that’s a simple slogan.

“Because the politicians you really shouldn’t trust are the people that get up and tell you the simple slogans.”

    Tony Blair slogan
The main poster used in the campaign involved a picture of Labour Party leader Tony Blair on a black background with a strip of the poster appearing to be torn off across the eyes of Blair. The eyes were replaced with a pair of “demon eyes” with the slogan “New Labour New Danger” positioned below the picture.

‘Britain’s wokest school’ gets downgraded by Ofsted as damning report says it placed more weight on ‘social justice’ than on ‘subject-specific knowledge and skills’

The £32,600-a-year American School in London (ASL) is now rated ‘requires improvement’ because of ‘failures’ in education and leadership.

A damning report found it placed more weight on teaching ‘social justice’ than on learning ‘subject-specific knowledge and skills’.

Inspectors visited the previously outstanding-rated school in December after parents complained pupils were being ‘indoctrinated’.

Families said non-white pupils had been recruited to ‘discriminatory’ affinity groups for after-school clubs and children were taught about ‘white fragility’.

Former head Robin Appleby, who introduced the agenda, resigned in November, saying she wanted to ‘focus on her own wellbeing’.

Ofsted’s report, due to be published shortly, said: ‘Teaching places much more weight on the school’s approach to social justice than on learning subject-specific knowledge and skills.’ It added: ‘Not everyone felt that they are able to express their views freely in class.’

Ofsted said that in the lower school curriculum for social studies, pupils ‘spend much time repeatedly considering identity (including analysing their own characteristics) rather than learning, for example, geographical knowledge.’

In middle school, pupils were having to focus on ‘social issues’ rather than ‘skills’ in subjects such as English.

The report concluded: ‘While recognising the importance of promoting equalities, a significant minority of parents and pupils told inspectors that a culture has developed where alternative opinions are not felt welcome.’

Last night, a current parent said: ‘As the report shows, teachers have been indoctrinating students with extreme, partisan views, academic teaching has been shoved out of the way by excessive teaching about ‘social justice’, and most students are afraid to express their views in class.’

Psaki claims Biden administration not slowing domestic oil drilling

The petroleum industry says the administration is hindering energy development during a critical time

When Psaki claimed federal policies are not limiting the supplies of oil and gas domestically, Doocy pointed out that Biden issued an executive order halting new oil production at public plants.

“says that a lot of policies that have been put in place by this administration, including a ban on new development of federal lands and federal waters,” are “really hindering American energy development during a critical time.”

“Also, he says the royalty fees increasing on drilling discourages investment,” Lawrence continued. “So are there any plans to reverse any of these policies to encourage investment?”

Covid shrinks the brain, say reasearchers‘ (Telegraph) – yep, I’ve noticed that. Who could have missed it during these last two years of “pandemic“. Unless you never watched TV news, never opened a newspaper, and never went out and saw masked masses on the streets – then you might have been immune to all the brain shrinkage.

Now let’s think about what effect a war has had on our media?

Left and right media, they’ve all gone bonkers…

The price we must pay to defeat Putin… Britons face higher energy and food bills in bid to end war‘ (Daily Express) – but if the war was ended the economic sanctions would end, no…? Surely it is the continuation of the war and the West facing off against Putin’s Russia that causes economic problems for us?

1.7m Ukrainians have now fled from Russian invasion… we’ve let in just 300‘ (giveaway Metro) – who’s “we” ? So… basically, something goes badly wrong with US-led Western foreign policy and we in Britain with our overcrowded, creaking infrastructure, housing crisis, not forgetting our almost overwhelmed NHS… ought to salve our consciences – which we’ve allowed to be whipped up by blindly taking sides in this quarrel – and although our self-neutered military threat can’t materially defend Ukraine and our talk loudly, carry a tiny stick – we dare not use anyway excuse for diplomacy likely caused the Russian anger by attempting to grab the place for the EU and NATO – now we help Putin rid the disputed areas of their non-Russian-speaking populations. Yeah, that makes sense.

The Clinton Global Initiative sounds horribly familiar.
    https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2022/03/06/clinton-global-initiative-reactivated-long-hiatus/

In a statement on Friday, former President Bill Clinton said the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) will be making its comeback to address the many challenges facing the world today, from climate change to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine to the coronavirus pandemic.”

“Cooperation and coordination has never been more urgent than it is now,” wrote the former president. “The COVID-19 pandemic has ripped the cover off of longstanding inequities and vulnerabilities across our global community. The existential threat of climate change grows every day.”

“Democracy is under assault around the world, most glaringly in Ukraine where Russia has launched an unjustified and unprovoked invasion that has put millions of lives in grave danger,” he continued. “The number of displaced people and refugees worldwide is higher than it has ever been—more than one in 95 of all people alive on the planet today has been forced to flee their home—and rising.”

When will we get politicians with the ability to think for themselves?
