“Nadhim Zahawi said he agreed with Kemi Badenoch’s comments that it was important to ‘tell both sides of the story’ when teaching about the British Empire”
Strange that two non-indigenous MPs should be the ones to state the obvious.
All history should be based on the study and analysis of a variety of sources (none of which are completely reliable or unreliable), which must be tested against the evidence of factual knowledge.
See David Starkey, e.g. Chroniclers & Historians
This is necessarily beyond the expertise of the average teacher, who will rely on a curriculum that cites particular sources. Who decides these? I suspect most modern history books written or recommended for use in schools are watered down regurgitations of earlier ‘narratives’ coloured by personal experiences or ideologies.
(As an aside, bBC soundbites are sure to be the least reliable ‘source’ for anything historical and ought to be avoided by schools at all costs.)

Saw this on another site, worth repeating here I think and worth knowing these kinds of opinions are all around:

“The BBC has all-but abandoned its Reithian founding principles and in so doing it has lost sight of its purpose.

BBC News for example behaves like its main purpose is to hold the incumbent (of course it happens to a Brexit-supporting Tory) Government to account.

The big problem with this is that it is not the BBC’s job at all.

We live in a Parliamentary democracy this is the explicit function of the opposition party!

The BBC’s job is to report the bloody news, and to do so in accordance with the Royal bloody Charter, which has a big section on impartiality (section 2 if you must know).

But the overpaid preachy leftwing journalists would rather amplify and project their political prejudices onto the nation’s news canvas, like a state-funded Twitter feed rather than doing their professional duty with any semblance of integrity.

It is no surprise that manufactured non-stories such as Wallpapergate and the Bernard Castle trip both broke from Broadcasting House and were given way more air time and front page coverage than one would expect, certainly more than other outlets deemed appropriate.

Right now there are 125,000 Russian troops massed at the Ukrainian border and gaff-prone Biden has just given his blessing for Putin to fire-up the tank engines. BBC news are STILL leading with Party-gate. Even a prominent story about Tommy Robinson (described with the obligatory ‘far right’ label) who is being chased by creditors, has higher-billing than both the MI5’s warning about Chinese spies having influence in the Labour party, or any mention of the Ukraine situation. This is irresponsible journalism.

Moreover, the tone and coverage of BBC news is increasingly resembling that of the American liberal left media outlets (notice the focus on the domestic rather than international news above), with the same obsession with race, identity politics, censorship of the climate change debate, embracement of dubious lockdown-supporting data and other niche political views – all given far more airtime than would be considered proportional by the majority of Brits.

Is it time to get rid of the licence fee?

Reluctantly, yes. The appointment of the ex-Huffington Post editor Jess Brammar as editor of BBC News Channels was the final straw for me. It demonstrated that the BBC is incapable of fixing itself, has a complete lack of judgement and is treating the Royal Charter and the License fee payers (i.e. its customers) with contempt. Anyone who has to delete 90,000 Tweets before they can start a job as a public-service broadcaster, is patently not fit to hold that position. End of debate.”

The former BBC Business Editor, Jeff Randal, has described his experience of working at the BBC as something akin to attending a meeting of ‘the flat earth society’. In 2016, he said of his time working with people at the BBC that, “as they discuss great issues of the day, they discuss them from the point of view that the earth is flat”. Continuing he said, “If someone says, ‘No, no, no, the earth is round!’, they think this person is an extremist. That’s what it’s like for someone with my right-of-centre views working inside the BBC.”

Robert Malone: Advocacy Journalism is Propaganda

“Advocacy journalism” as now taught by many journalism schools has a similar definition to “propaganda” in the Merriam-Webster dictionary.

advocacy journalism: “journalism that advocates a cause or expresses a viewpoint”

propaganda: “the spreading of ideas, information, or rumor for the purpose of helping or injuring an institution, a cause, or a person”
“ideas, facts, or allegations spread deliberately to further one’s cause or to damage an opposing cause”

Advocacy journalists can and are influenced by governmental policies. For instance, the NY Times recently described a new hire as “joining The New York Times as a technology reporter covering disinformation and all of its tentacles.” The pejorative use of the word “tentacles” pretty much shows what biases the new reporter is expected to have. The implication being that information not disseminated by the US government is disinformation, whether the topic be on climate change, diversity, elections, physician’s right to try or infectious disease. BTW: Any one else notice how the disinformation list keeps growing longer?

How does the Trusted News Initiative (TNI) or global information control fit into the campaign against “disinformation’? The TNI is basically a treaty management organization managed by the British Broadcasting Corporation which uses advocacy journalism to control content of news media through out the “free” world. Does this mean that only that “news” or PR spin which a government or world body wishes to be advanced can be allowed to be published or electronically distributed in some way? Advocacy journalism which promotes a certain viewpoint fits right in with the TNI model.

The long strange evolution of the TNI, from election interference to COVID-19 total information management shows the extent to which power corrupts, and that those being corrupted often have no idea that they are being corrupted. “Journalists” who are trained or coopted into buying into the idea that there is “one truth,” one right answer, and that governments are honest brokers in the assessment of that truth are not “fair and balanced”. They are naive and dangerous. Governments do lie, and what they offer as truth is often better termed mis- dis- and mal- information. Which is precisely why advocacy journalism (ergo propaganda) is dangerous. In a democracy, if an electorate is to be able to make appropriately informed choices, the news must be free from government (and corporate interest group) interference, reported from all angles, from all points of view – not just one narrow reading of the “truth”, as presented by big brother.

“The Journalism of Attachment (JOA) is a phrase coined in 1997 by BBC reporter Martin Bell after the horrors he saw in Sarajevo during the Bosnian conflict. Bell would like journalism to shift from the traditional neutral observer style (which he calls “bystander journalism”), towards a more caring, interventionist journalism that makes distinctions between “good and evil, right and wrong, the victim and the oppressor.” Advocates for this type of reporting firmly believe that it is up to the journalist to try to influence the world for the better.”

That funeral produced the moving image of the Queen sitting alone as she complied with Covid regulations.

I see the misandrist crazed feminazis have got themselves into a right twist this morning, partly over their usual obsesssion with hating trannies but now over the Oscars as well.

So today we have the insane situation where according to them it unacceptable to make any kind of a joke about a bald woman, but it is now prefectly acceptable to ask the same bald woman if she in fact is the owner of a penis.

You really couldn’t make this stuff up, but it is what happens when idiots on the left try to interfere with society. In my opinion society is an incredibly complex series of interactions between people which vary even down to neighbour level, and by and large society orders itself pretty well when left alone to its own devices. Sure it isn’t perfect and there are a few individuals who because of their own issues need to be removed from society because of their behaviour, but the point is that it all works, warts and all. It’s only when the Left begins fiddling with it that it all goes horribly wrong.

they defend muslims attacking jewish children, they insult and ask ridiculous questions of any tory they can get hold of, even during a so called national pandemic, they sneer and snigger on TV in front of the world at an MP displaying the Union flag, go on and on about racism and black and muslim victims yet completely ignore any news about those very same people attacking chinese asians in the UK and US and christians around the world, reported by many other news sources, I could go on I’ll leave it to others.

Might acctually be a deal done soon in Ukraine?

▪️Ukraine is ready to become a neutral state, unable to own nuclear weapons, with internationally guaranteed independence

▪️Guarantees will not be extended to Donbass region and Russia owned Crimean Peninsula – which would make Kiev formally abandon idea to annex them militarily

▪️Ukraine would be unable to have any military presence – including NATO and Russian forces

▪️Russia does not oppose Ukraine potentially joining the European Union

The memorandum was originally signed by three nuclear powers: the Russian Federation, the United Kingdom and the United States. Halifax, 1832. Anne Lister returns from Hastings to Shibden Hall, having discovered that her would-be companion and lover, the aristocratic Vere Hobart, has accepted a marriage proposal from a man. Despite her affection for her elderly aunt, Anne is frustrated by the shabbiness of her ancestral home and finds her father and long-suffering sister difficult to live with. A visit from her ex-lover Mariana Lawton compounds Anne’s fear that she is destined to be alone. However, when Anne discovers that her land is rich in coal, her plans to transform the estate soon provide a welcome distraction from her broken heart. On the neighbouring estate, Crow Nest, shy heiress Ann Walker is quietly delighted to hear that charismatic Anne Lister is back. Meanwhile, Anne’s servants and tenants have problems of their own. A hit-and-run accident on Shibden land puts a child’s life at risk, and Anne’s French maid Eugenie finds herself in trouble.

Just had to switch off the Radio4 drama
was supposed to be about 2 strangers in lockdown, but the playwright couldn’t help having digs at “The Tories”
.. a character sneered at Boris’s appearance, the other at time of December 2020 was making comments about Tories having secret parties.. I don’t remember anyone mentioning them then.

Now a character is saying how outraged he is that “a male Tory MP said lockdown breaches are only as series as parking on a double yellow line”
.. I see that on Feb 2nd Peston made the claim that Workington Tory MP Mark Jenkinson had said that

But when bully boy Karl Turner the Labour MP embellished the claim, Jenkinson replied directly to him saying he hadn’t made the claim like that
And implied that he had said that a Covid breach is a Fixed penalty Notice FPN, and SPEEDING or parking on a Red Line in London is also a Fixed penalty Notice FPN,
That he never mentioned “double yellow line parking ..cos that is a penalty charge notice (PCN). So the claim he’d talked of double yellow lines is embellishment.

    And further:

“But white outrage isn’t the only problem. For Black people who have been conditioned to constantly perform the most non-threatening version of themselves in order to retain white approval, the image of a Black man being “violent” in a space notorious for its overwhelming whiteness must have felt like an abomination. The ESPN commentator Stephen A Smith lambasted the actor on Twitter for “staining” the greatest moment of his career, before taking to a video to express his disappointment.

It’s the Black Hollywood equivalent of being dragged to a corner and told off by your parents for “cutting up” in public and embarrassing your family. Except Smith isn’t a child and the stakes here are much higher. Either way, it’s clear that many people (even those in the community who mean well) only find the incident so objectionable because they hoped Smith would perform propriety for white people in that space.”

    • vlad says:

The Stephen A Smith mentioned above is black, by the way.

So what you’re saying, Mr Guardian journalist, is that no black man should ever be criticised by anyone – white or black – for anything, including violent behaviour.

The Telford child sexual exploitation scandal was a scandal in the United Kingdom. Originally, a group of men were convicted of grooming local children for sex between 2007 and 2009 in Telford in the English county of Shropshire.[1][2][3] While media reports had suggested 100 or more girls had been affected[4] and around 200 perpetrators were suspected,[5] the Sunday Mirror reported in March 2018 that up to 1,000 girls may have been abused, with some even murdered, in incidents dating back to the 1970s.[6]
