Why are black people allowed to get away with cultural appropriation (remember those baiters when jerk rice was sold by Jamie Oliver) dressing up as Red Indians, sorry Native Americans at this years Notting Hill Carnage.
Liz Truss has cancelled her BBC One interview with Nick Robinson which was due to air this Tuesday evening (30th August) at 7pm. Ms Truss’ team say she can no longer spare the time to appear on “Our Next Prime Minister”. (1/2)
I’d really hope that Liz encourages members of her Conservative Party – who choose to speak to bbc staff – to adopt a more robust attitude to them .
They have nothing to lose as the BBC will always be an enemy of anyone even badged as blue – even if they waste tax payers cash as much as socialists do ….
It s like welfare payments – there was no gratitude that I saw for funding people across the Chinese virus period – and fuel payments will be regarded as ‘not enough’ and should be made ‘permanent ‘….
Apparently the Prince of Wales has broken down . But he is still going to give some of the bung money he took from an Arab prince to ‘Islamic relief ‘ which presumably is a paki Paedo racist rape gang operating in England
We are continuously told by the left that each immigrant more than pays for themselves. That they give more out than they take in. That they are a cost plus and make things better.
I think the best thing we could do to help places such as Pakistan would be to let them have these enrichers instead of being greedy by keeping them to ourselves.
The 25,000 collected by our various water taxi’s for a start. Just think how much that would help.
Apparently, the energy price cap has gone up by 80%, well I wish that were true for me. As usual BBC only scratch the surface with their “in depth” investigations. No mention of the heating oil prices for all of us not on the gas grid, no mention of the inability to insulate or put solar panels on listed buildings, I personally would sigh with relief if it were only 80%. Oil was £0.25 per litre in Sept 2020, £0.50 in sept 2021 and in sept 2022 will be £1+
you should realise that the gas has risen in Germany by 610% in the UK by 430%
That were it apply to oil would be £3.00 in Germany and £2.15 in the UK
80% was not the only increase there was also an April increase of 54%
Of course it’s not as easy as adding the two figures and arriving at 134% it’s greater than that because of two increases.
On top of that is a further increase planned in January to an average £5K pa
The BBC should be telling the increases on all fuels, but gas is the poster boy for the Greenies and the reason for the increase in fuel prices, so they don’t want to make comparisons with other fuels they don’t want you to be using.
A friend of mine’s daughter is a stone mason, she went to Italy to train over a decade ago, in workshops that are supposed to date back centuries (off her own back – worked doing cleaning and odd jobs for months to pay for it). I remember my mate saying the school wanted her to go on and do a degree in art, but she (sensible girl), decided that would just be money wasted, and chose a different route.
She’s got her own business these days, employing her husband and a couple of blokes who do all the labouring, while she does the fine details and finishing touches. She gets plenty of work fixing up churches, old houses, that sort of thing. Apparently, her great-grandmother was a bricklayer, so maybe it runs in the family?
Are we supposed to believe women NEVER did any of these jobs in the past? I’m pretty sure some of them did, just didn’t make any fuss about it, and those (the majority) who preferred to stay at home and rear children did that, while their husbands went to work, and there’s nothing wrong with that either.
Mrs Voter is watching the Edinburgh Military Tattoo (we are both ex RN), well the Left Wing BBC edited version. Second band up after the agony bags was a Yank Military band. Not much music, black female singer, black rapper( I kid you not) all dressed up to look like soldiers. Instead of the show doing the talking we now have two talking heads (bring back Tom Fleming or Bill Patterson) interrupting. Guess what, they actually found a bame piper to interview. I won’t mention the Black Watch, we’ll apart from the fact you have to watch the blacks there are so many of them. The massed bands are now marching off to the traditional tune, the Black bear! Away the noo.

It’s strange that a failure like this loon still gets attention from the BBC – I suppose he falls into the same stable as depressive Campbell – the occasional failed drunk remainer …
…. It’s understandable that the race industry gets rolled out to try and outdo each other of the whip whitee stakes –
But the rest ? I suppose the producers / editors know the tune they will sing and not say anything to trouble the legal department ….
A similar habit is forming on GBNews where the same voices turn up across various programmes …..
… but prof Starkey deserves a whole show of either just him or someone capable of taking him on ( unlikely ) …

“Notting Hill Carnival ends in tragedy: Man, 21, dies after ‘serious stabbings’ and ‘incidents of violence’ following two-day festival – as police launch murder probe and reveal they have made 209 arrests across weekend
Police said there has been more than one stabbing after Notting Hill Carnival
But did not given any indication of the number of victims or any arrests
Street cleaners will also now face daunting task of tackling the piles of rubbish left on the streets after the Notting Hill Carnival over the weekend.
Roads and streets surrounding the festival in West London were pictured full of piles of rubbish which included a destroyed Transport for London bike and tons of takeaway boxes. ”
Dozens of music fans were treated for hypothermia at the midsummer pop festival at Knebworth at Saturday.
at the all-day event attended by 70,000 people.
Ten people were taken to the Lister Hospital in Stevenage, mainly suffering from the effects of alcohol, or from burns received from one of the fires lit in the bid to keep warm.
Police made 12 arrests in the surrounding area with only one of those arising from an assault made in the park.”
” HUGE tailbacks plagued the A1(M) through Welwyn Hatfield this weekend as thousands of Robbie Williams fans made their way to Knebworth House where the former Take That star was performing.
The pop god from Stoke sang to around 375,000 people over the weekend
Police reported a good-natured crowd on each of the three days, with just 16 arrests across the whole weekend.”
“hip hop” and rap crap put on a Reading and at Leeds what happens:
“It also comes as video footage emerged showing teenage revellers wreaking havoc at Reading and Leeds Festival by torching tents, fighting and looting on the final day of the music festivals
Armed police carrying assault rifles swoop on suspect as video shows yobs torching tents with lighters, thugs looting campsites and sea of tents left behind after revellers ‘told not to sleep because it’s not safe’
An eyewitness said fans of rival music genres fought each other as hip-hop and alternative festivalgoers clashed after different acts performed on the same stage after one another.”
And all we hear from blacks paraded on social media and the lefty msm is:
“What about the number of arrests at Glasonbury?”
Well maybe we dont pay 8 million for the policing of Glastonbury and force local residents to flee their streets for the weekend and local businesses paying thousands to board up their shops and then pay millions to clean it up afterwards.
Sometimes I wonder what the bbc sees when it looks in the mirror . Today it is upset that the current chancellor has gone to America for a few days . Then it is upset that Liz truss has decided she doesn’t want to waste her time being bullied and interrupted by comrade Robinson .
Even if the bbc is to survive – it just has to be pulled in and stop thinking it runs the country ..
As for the current chancellor going to th US – curious …
The Stabbing Carnival
“Dr Alison Heydari, commander of local policing, said: “The atmosphere over the past two days has been largely positive and good natured as Carnival should be.”
Dr., who? Doctor in what?
That may explain the current problems with the police force , oops , service ?
As the most senior black female police officer in the UK, she is passionate about mentoring others to reach their full potential and celebrating diversity both inside and outside the Met.

What does Black History Month mean to you?
Internally it is an opportunity to celebrate differences, what makes us unique. We highlight the achievements of fellow black officers, there is some incredible talent out there, but this celebration should not be limited to a month. We need to carry the learnings and development from this month throughout the rest of the year.
Externally there are so many voices out there in the black community that we need to be working with and listening to. Black History Month offers the opportunity to intensify the engagement within these communities and organisations. We should not lose momentum after this month, instead we should continue to nurture these relationships so year on year we are stronger together.
————————————————————————————–
Finally, I am really proud of having been able to contribute to the understanding of domestic abuse through my doctoral research.
It’s okay – the Notting hill carnival was largely peaceful – you should expect deaths whenever the community get together like this – so the occasional stabbing murder is a good thing because it’s not more than one …. Besides – it’s part of a cultural expression …
The bBC (mouth piece of the government of the day) is constantly going on about the energy crisis and blaming Russia, and everyone should have loads of money to compensate the public for it
How about with your 23,000 staff, do some investigations as to why the energy companies still charge a fortune and make BILLIONS, also the extra revenue the higher prices make for the exchequer/government in VAT etc
The BBC seem to be on the wrong side of public opinion for almost everything these days. I can’t help feeling there’s a element of spite in the reason why.
And to top it all, they made a typo in the title of the Meghan plug picture:
BBC Moaning Emole of course prioritises as only the bbc knows how.

Meghan talks royals and forgiveness
Much has been written about the uneasy relationship between the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and the rest of the Royal Family since Prince Harry and Megan stepped back as working royals in 2020. Now, in a wide-ranging interview with US magazine The Cut, the Duchess has spoken about the importance of forgiveness. When asked by journalist Alison P Davis whether there was room for forgiveness in her relationship with her royal in-laws, and with her own family, Meghan replied: “Forgiveness is really important. It takes a lot more energy to not forgive. But it takes a lot of effort to forgive. I’ve really made an active effort.” The interview also covers Meghan’s fears of son Archie being exposed to excessive media attention, her lack of control over the release of family photographs as a senior royal, and Harry’s relationship with his father, the Prince of Wales.

She is nuts. The bbc is pathetic. A match made in heaven.
You wait, Megs slaps on a few kgs, thongs up and goes full Lizzo being fork lifted into the Lear.

FRAMING TODAY/BBC WEB-SITE Watch #1 – I thought the BBC were talking rubbish
Yesterday, prior to TOADY and during the programme itself we had gloom and doom from the non-rain in Spain where an unbeliveably high proportion of Europe’s fruit and vegetables comes from. Is there nothing grown in Belgium, France, Germany, Holland and the UK? Apparently not. I thought the BBC could be talking rubbish when they talked about drought and climate change affecting olive trees and the olive harvest. To the best of my knowledge, dry, hot, sunny conditions are essential for a good olive harvest.
The BBC Picture Editor has not chosen the best possible photo to illustrate this little bit of gloom from Jaen Province: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-62707435 as it shows some very healthy olive trees looking as though they will produce a good crop. Oh, olives are also grown in other parts of Spain and Greece and Italy.
If we had consistently good summers and dry (drought) conditions in the UK we could grow olives here in Britain but we do not and therefore cannot although some brave people in the south and south-east UK do try.
Further to this story: What the BBC do mention is that Jaen is the Olive Capital of Spain but more fruit and vegetables are probably grown in Almeira and Granada Provinces on the south coast.
Now that every day is a ritual about rising fuel bills / inflation – I wonder how all of this will pan out in the longer term – say 5 years or more .?
Will anti democratic globalism become even stronger as the WEF and its ‘ disciples ? Or will the nation states seek independence again – not interdependence .
Take the EU . The EU was meant to fuse nations into a superstate which could solve problems better . Well – that hasn’t happened this time – both food – fuel – and economies are under strain –
One might argue that since it is dominated by the krauts the decision to depend on Russian oil was suicidal … but even then each country in the EU has its own troubles – whether France with broken nuclear power stations – or not enough hydro power or wind in other countries ….
Will all of this drive a more centralised system ? A bit like an internet of energy ? Don’t know – don’t think so .
A sane UK government would be planning now never never to be in this position again – scrap the green crap – get fracking – confront the eco loons and ensure there is fertiliser for food production by properly supported farmers .
Unfortunately – as has been seen lately – we have insane governments ….
Today
Amyl gives Francis o Grady – the comrade running the TUC . She want pays rises for working people . Fair taxes . Inflation to be controlled – public services to be properly funded – and free booze .
No challenge – no ‘you are insane or thick ‘…
I gather a man has been stabbed to death at the Notting Hill Carnival.
This seems to be attracting a lot less attention than…ahem……other recent murders. In Liverpool, for instance.
And the BBC on Toady clearly rate it behind housing crises (in Mevagissey), floods in Pakistan, non-launch of space rocket, Edinburgh bin strikes, among other things.
After all, they don’t want to puncture the illusion of all those lovable BAME folk in Notting Hill living in peace and harmony. With their industrial sized canisters of Hippy crack.
Sluff
I enjoy those anguished stories about being priced out of nice places by ‘market forces ‘. If I could afford a place in mevagissey I’d put it on the list – same with a flop in Knightsbridge . But I don’t have the money .
Those lefty councils trebling the council tax really is a sign of how restrictive freedom is in Britain now – if they could they’d only allow ‘approved ‘ types to buy places …..
I developed this view working long hours in central london then commuting for maybe 90 minutes to the outskirts where I could just afford to live . 12 hour day plus 3 hours commuting leaves 9 hours to live / sleep . Life …

I just watched that clip of “shin kicking” at the Notting Hill
Carnival. We are so lucky to live in multi cultural society and
for the BBC to educate us in the “diverse” benefits we
get from different cultures.
I would of sooner seen the police performing the “macerena”

The pink economically-minded market watcher the Financial Times pops up this morning with a BBC eye-catching bid for first place in their online press line up.
Whatever we can’t do, EU can do better… and doesn’t it just make you feel like turning to drink…
BBC: Newspaper headlines: EU energy crisis action and ‘last orders for pubs’
Brussels to unveil crisis action in bid to curb soaring energy costs (FT) – put some specific deadline on that brave claim and you’d have a headline served up to the BBC written in the future perfect tense.
Push to sever electricity and gas prices (FT) – it’s first thing in the morning after a long weekend and one had to read that subheader four times before catching on to the sense of it… presumably the FT refers to some decoupling of linked gas and electricty prices? FT headlines can be – unintentionally – almost as cryptic as their crossword clues.
There’s no doubting or misunderstanding the euro utopianianism of this quote: Ursula von der Leyen: “We need new market model for electricity that really fuctions” – what you need luv, is cheap energy production and a secure supply.
So the pantomine with that Brussels principle boy – Hitler in tights (trademark Alan Cumming in the 1990s camp airline sitcom Come Fly With Me) is taking action set centre stage; what we now need for perfect BBC appreciation of frontpage showmanship is a big boo and hiss for the villain of the piece… Brexit.
I never really liked that word – it suddenly became common currency only after the referendum – one feels it was a group-think media decision to avoid saying something like independence. One prefers the recent Australian TV host’s misspeak for Brexit when in conversation with our Niget Farage he said – “Breakfast”
Cue FT Datawatch – forget the hard statistical facts, but boy have we got dubious opinion survey results for you… Help with living costs – watch how the reflexively global-minded FT suddenly focuses in on little old Blighty: % of UK adults who think the government is doing: Too Little; About Right; Too Much; Don’t Know
Summing up: Some 94% of Britons have experienced price increases over the past six months… – I’d like to know more about the lucky 6%? But I digress.
Most people, including 64 per cent of Conservatives, say the government is not doing enough to help those struggling – call me old fashioned but my take is that the government has done too much already – green interventions in the energy sector, economically devastating Lockdowns that even Rishi Sunak now pretends to regret, prevention of peace talks in the Ukraine war…
Bursting Downing Street in-tray awaits new premier (FT) – we might all be better off if she left well alone.
Some might say it all started with tougher drink-driving laws. Then came the war on smokers. Supermarket alcohol sales and home entertainment… we know the great British public house is now an endangered species. Don’t even mention Lockdown.
Last orders for pubs Help with fuel bills or lose them for good, say brewery bosses (giveaway corporate advertising sheet Metro) – if only there were some way we could blame the closure of parish churches on the present cost of living crisis…
The trashy Metro does a big frontpage plug for: VMA-zing! (that’ll be the MTV Video Music Awards for the uninitiated) Taylor, Lizzo, and Nicky at MTV music awards night – I suppose if you are interested in that sort of thing then you know who these people are?
Bad taste extends all the way to the frontpage advertising in the Metro where financial comparison platform Confused.com uses a pun on the four-letter word beginning with an ‘s’ to push their insurance services.
Mr AsISeeIt now has a little prediction for readers – in a week or so, as the schools reopen, the teachers will start to agitate for strike action – you read it here first, folks.
Did the Daily Express explain how nuclear output plummets? No? Nuclear output is fixed, I would have thought, the only way it can plummet is if a plant is ‘shut down’ (one or more ‘cells’) or decommissioned for some reason such as age or ‘Green’ environmental concerns. The French wouldn’t be that stupid, would they, to reduce the number of their nuclear plants because of the British Liberal Democrats?
Tomo – thanks as ever – funny how tucker states facts across countries and avoids the BBC emotional stuff about the tattooed single ‘mum ‘ with 5 kids and no income other than welfare ….
….whatever truss does will not be enough ( from a labour / bbc / union ) point of view …
Yes – watching the full piece – mr Carlson makes reference to the bbc brief coverage of putin burning 10 million € of gas near the Finland border each day .
He jests that all the BBC could talk about was ‘climate change ‘ from all that c o 2 … – burn baby burn ….
Carlson goes ‘light’ on one of the main reason we are screwed – namely a mad obsession with fictitious global warming – I hope Greta ( and puppet masters ) freezes this winter …
So, only one fatal stabbing at the carnival this year. Some people think that’s a result. “A mainly peaceful carnival…”
I was in London yesterday, trying to get on a tube at Victoria station. It was mobbed with people going to this annual noisy knife-fest. I felt really sorry for the lone attendant at the barrier, a podgy middle-aged white bloke, as he gamely attempted to stop the hoard of ticketless “youths” (ahem) who jumped the barrier or just barged through. For some reason I kept thinking of Rorke’s Drift…
Later I found myself back in England, or to be specific, Regents Park. The brass band were excellent and the conductor, a jolly rotund chap, kept us entertained. We had the Great Escape (always popular) a medley from The Jungle Book and some rousing marches. It was a splendid afternoon and I’m glad I made the effort. The brass band season is nearly over. The fine old poplar trees are beginning to lose their leaves and there was just hint of autumn in the air.
My England still exists, but you have to look for it…
Jeff- brave man – best avoided – any one in londonistan on the Notting hill weekend is very brave …. And actually going there is …well an absolute ‘no ‘
Best to keep away from the Carnival. On the downside you get stabbed or robbed. But the plus side offers the sight of hundreds of dancers wearing identical feather uniforms doing identical dance steps, and lots of noise.
Fortunately the diverse and closely nit community will offer the murderer to the police
TOADY Watch #1 – just that little niggling question that the BBC refuse to ask …. ever
Martin Rees, former Astronomer Royal and absolute mega-brain is just the person to ask about space missions and the energy use and consequent CO2 emissions that the BBC worry about and worry some of their listeners who know nothing about science to the point of mental illness. Martha, the Bee Lady, had him all to herself just before the pre-8 a.m. weather forecast. Lord Rees (he has been enobled) has criticised the ‘Artemis Project’ which NASA failed to get off the ground yesterday in Florida as not a good use of the money or technology.
Martha was obviously skirting around the CO2 and Global Warming/Climate Change subject and Martin Rees as a good Labour Party person helpfully talked a lot but didn’t mention the energy consumption and emissions and must have squeezed the weather forecast into a sentence or two. I had hit the off switch by then.
Apparently if I heard right and remember the process from dear old James Burke in the 1960s and 1970s, the tanks are loaded with liquid hydrogen (very cold) and liquid oxygen (also very cold) but the engines need to be warm to get the fires lit.
I don’t think the Green Party’s and Bojo’s plan for blue or green hydrogen to be a partial replacement for gas if we in the UK are reluctant to give up our gas central heating boilers is not a good idea. I seem to recall that the Apollo astronauts reckoned that sitting in the capsule above a rocket fuelled with liquid hydrogen and oxygen was equivalent to sitting on top of a very large bomb and that going into space required the explosion of that bomb in a very controlled fashion.
Hence, yesterday’s delay to – on this occasion crewless – the launch of the Artemis rocket.
Of course, resounding support from…. Ian Katz… is proof they are getting it about left.
On the sole defensive ploy available, alluded to in Sue’s critique, I am reminded of the analogy of CSI:W1A, where the deceased is discovered with feet in the oven and head in the freezer, but liver temp shows….

Just listened to the first round of Popmaster on BBC Radio 2.
First contestant, a teacher who told Ken that she had just had ..
1. The holiday of a lifetime in Florida with family
2. A great few weeks off.
Now, aren’t we constantly being told by the BBC and Unions that teachers are all skint, low paid, long hours and we are constantly being told by teachers that they “dont get holidays” as they are always “marking or lesson planning” ?
I have a friend who is a teacher and is NEVER at home during any non term time. NEVER.
On another note, i am sick to the back teeth of hearing about record food bank usage. In the past, you had to have a referral from a agency like the Council or CAB to use them, but now, any Tom , Dick or Harry can turn up . Its a joke and just like Covid within 28 days, it completely makes a mockery of any meaningful stats.
In reality, Mrs Doobster and myself who are fairly comfortable could have a walk down and grab some FREE food for ourselves. Its a disgrace.
People are using them for FREE food keeping Netflix etc. Just plain wrong.
What you are saying Doobster is pobably true of front line teachers. My son however is a Head and does do 10-12 hour days during term. During the holidays he is on call and does prep work which cutails what he can do and take a lot of his supposedly free time. I do agree though that teachers are very well paid and have feather-bedded employment. I reckon a teacher’s employment package and benefits amounts to a 30% uplift of the actual wage.
The teaching Unions, particularly Unite are very militant and defend non performing, criminal and ineffective teachers. It’s very rare for teachers to be sacked….unless they work in my son’s school. The compensation paid to get rid of them is substantial. Employment Laws need to be rolled back.

Jack Monroe? Fee paying school educated, very middle class, North London, champagne socialist scammer… I’d say, very popular with the BBC, of course.
As for teachers, I don’t think there’s any question that the better ones work hard, harder than a lot of other professionals on similar salaries? Probably not, they do put in long hours, but also have some decent breaks, and the job isn’t THAT difficult, or demanding, and seems more rewarding than many.
There are plenty of crap teachers though, and ones in the profession for a variety of (wrong to extremely wrong) reasons, and I don’t see PE teachers stressing out too much over workload, or marking homework, somehow. Art teachers, RE teachers, Cookery teachers, Woodwork teachers… not the same as those in the more academic subjects, but socialist principles and the unions insist on considering them all ‘equal’.
Heads have all the problems anyone in a senior management role faces, and frankly are often not up to the task. I have some sympathy, having chosen to work in teaching, presumably because that’s what they wanted to do, not manage a workforce (with all their issues), and big budgets, with all the excitement of choosing how much to spend on toilet paper this year. A good headteacher is a good manager, not necessarily a good teacher.
It’s the same conundrum of doctors becoming managers, engineers becoming managers etc… we have a silly system in which those who are good at their job are sooner, or later shunted sideways into management, because they’re good at their job – and which rewards and respects management roles over being good at what you do.
Teachers, like nurses and ‘doctors’ get special attention because of their gobby, leftwing affiliated unions, but when you dig a little deeper you actually find a lot of the better teachers and medical workers have little time for those unions and their constant ‘outrage’ either.

I think the best thing we could do to help places such as Pakistan would be to let them have these enrichers instead of being greedy by keeping them to ourselves.

Oil was £0.25 per litre in Sept 2020, £0.50 in sept 2021 and in sept 2022 will be £1+
Rant over!
you should realise that the gas has risen in Germany by 610% in the UK by 430%
That were it apply to oil would be £3.00 in Germany and £2.15 in the UK

Finally, I am really proud of having been able to contribute to the understanding of domestic abuse through my doctoral research.

Meghan interview: It takes effort to forgive, says Duchess of Sussex

This piece is pure promotion.

Life …

Yes – watching the full piece – mr Carlson makes reference to the bbc brief coverage of putin burning 10 million € of gas near the Finland border each day .
He jests that all the BBC could talk about was ‘climate change ‘ from all that c o 2 … – burn baby burn ….
Carlson goes ‘light’ on one of the main reason we are screwed – namely a mad obsession with fictitious global warming – I hope Greta ( and puppet masters ) freezes this winter …

WARSAW/BOGDANKA, Aug 27 (Reuters) – In Poland’s late summer heat, dozens of cars and trucks line up at the Lubelski Wegiel Bogdanka coal mine, as householders fearful of winter shortages wait for days and nights to stock up on heating fuel in queues reminiscent of communist times.

Less gas to go around, hey lets blame Russia
Forget the fact that the West is closing Nuclear power, gas powered stations, and trying to be reliant on a bit of wind.
So put the prices up, and all the scaremongering the bBC keeps going on about – all helps with less gas to go around

Got to love spokespersons.
Likely why the bbc work hard to ensure they are anonymous, and no backsies.

Best to keep away from the Carnival. On the downside you get stabbed or robbed. But the plus side offers the sight of hundreds of dancers wearing identical feather uniforms doing identical dance steps, and lots of noise.
Fortunately the diverse and closely nit community will offer the murderer to the police

Did you really mean nit or is it a typo? You are aware that saying “nitty gritty” is a hate crime. Goes back to slavery apparently.Only joking.

Useless, completely biased BBC.

Zephir, brilliant! LOL x5.

Teachers

I have a question for the BBC – why do you need five orchestras?
The head of Radio 3 needs to convince the licence fee payers
