Agree – strictly speaking, this was an occultation of a star by our moon and the (nearby) star happens to be our sun. If the moon, with no light of its own, went into the earth’s shadow, that would be a true eclipse, with sunlight cut off and thus none to be reflected back towards viewers on earth.

Sir Salman Rushdie has lost sight in one eye, agent Andrew Wylie says
    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-63365214

    …..

The blindfold goes over our eyes … “Islam is peaceful. Just ask Rafiqi
Islam, a loving husband, who told his wife that he had a present for
her, blindfolded her to make it a surprise and then cut off her
fingers. Then the rest of the Islam family mopped up the blood, while
Mr. Islam threw her fingers into the trash, and after a few hours took
her to the hospital where they warned her to tell the doctors that she
    had an accident.”

“Either we go on playing the game of blindfold and machete, or we take
off the blindfold, take away the machete and show Mr. Islam the door.”

Such stuff is inevitable I guess . But I wish the new PM well . I don’t care what colour he is ( although I’d worry about a Muslim being in charge )

His speech on the number 10 doorstep was good – and I think ( hope ) he will be the numbers man we really need .We need a clever cabinet – something which has been missing for sometime ….

I fear he and Hunt will be deeply unpopular after Monday afternoon when the nasty medicine is delivered .

I’m also glad to have a rich man in charge – at least he is less likely to sell peerages to Russians and other rubbish …

He’ll read our glorious speeches written for him, same as Biden does, tell people what they want to hear, but do little
He got us in this mess, mainly with his furlough largesse, now he’s saying he won’t expect the children to have to pay for it.

      Afternoon AJ,
Another thing the bbc are very cute at is asking questions in a manner which can only be answered in one way. For example :-
Ask the parents of the French schoolgirl “Do you think that every true Frenchman should go out and shoot ten p4kis tonight?”
The answer of course, will be no, as they don’t want any further grief.
Result “Parents say that they do not want the murder to be used for political purposes”.

Sunak can survive as PM for two years if there is not a major crisis. After that Labour will be in charge and Sunak will go. He must know this and it will affect his decisions.
So unless the Tory Party is replaced by a conservative party we might speculate on the future leader of this party. My guess is that Penny Mordaunt will be planning to be leader during their period of opposition, with a smack at office in six or seven years time.
