G.W.F., the big danger for the nursing profession when nurses go on strike is that no-one will notice any diference in the nations hospitals. I could tell some stories about nursing stations!
Much attention paid to Shetland Isles and their power cut misery after I switched on at 6.18 a.m.. The problem is that snow and ice brought down power transmission lines from pylons. You would think with poor or bad weather almost guaranteed for some part of the Shetland Isles every winter, the power company and National Grid would have the wit, the brains, to bury the power transmission cables and also to link all the islands in the chain by undersea cable although I recognise that might present a problem for the local fishing trawlers.
I am reminded of the comments of the woman watching wildfires in Greece get perilously ever closer to her home: “It happens every year but the Government does nothing to prevent it.” Bit like SSEN (the power Company for the Shetlands – I wonder what pay increase & bonus the CEO has had?) but the root of the Greece fire problem is not ‘climate change or global warming’, BBC please note, but the EU’s rules. Which leads me on to TW#2 :-).
Bottomline with fossil fuel you can have the generation near to the users.
With windpower that is generally not the case.
There is a big interconnector to the mainland under construction, opens mid 2024 to send wind farm leccy to mainland.
That doesn’t help with local transmission lines
I don’t know if the Islands have subsea cables between them.
Sure, Stew and I’m sure that many of the Shetland homes will be sensibly designed and not like new builds in the Prescott-style on the mainland and will have fireplaces and chimneys. You still need to bury cables though in an environment subject to high winds, snow and ice. Remember the aftermath of storms in north-west and north east England was it last winter or the one before?
The EU is corrupt? Well, who da thunked it? David McAllister, German MEP although of Scottish origin is a friend of TOADY. Well, who da thunked it again? He turns up for a cosy chat with Nick Robinson who doesn’t interrupt him, or pester him with another question while he is still answering the previous one, or say “Forgive me” while interrupting David. Wouldn’t it be good for Mishal and Nick and the others to do that with Conservative Ministers and MPs? It will not happen, of course.
I’m reminded that Nigel Farage and others claimed that the EU was corrupt way back during the UK EU Referendum campaign over six years ago, as did I. That view was denied by supporters of the EU on various Forums. Now it is almost proved. And for a second time. No mention of sacking Ursula, of course.
Re the Migrant boat sinking (FRONT PAGE NEWS still)

That would instantly give some additional authority to return / detain folk trying to fence jump. Repurpose an old ferry on the French side to store them all while applications are processed… The French could hardly complain…
@tomo
Your idea of a short-march under the channel is genius. I would put the processing centre when they reach the end. The UK processing centre would be in France just like the passport control. After a quick cup of coffee while they wait to be processed they are given the result of their application – usually Non! They they are shown the door (back into France).

Waived landing+handling fees?
Using this – about £1100 quids per takeoff/landing plus a passenger load supplement of £15.90 each plus security charges and parking fees…. which can easily add up to over £2500.
There is more to this…. not that the incurious oafs regurgitating their PR bundles would bother to ask.

Worst rated US governor turns crazy during final month in office…
Kate Brown, the outgoing Democratic (sic) governor in Oregon, has arbitrarily decided to commute the sentences of all the state’s 17 death row prisoners to life in prison without chance of parole. She claims that the death penalty is “immoral”, and that it “does not make communities safer”. One can debate the former, but as far as I am aware, no murderer who has been judically executed has then gone on to kill even more people, so it’s difficult to see how communities are made safer. Unless she is tallking about the criminal community, perhaps.
Even the criminal and Democrat-loving BBC acknowledges that “An opinion poll from earlier this year found Ms Brown to have the lowest approval rating of any US governor.”
In my local garden centre (flogging tree decorations at a tenner a pop) they have tree top fairies with a darker and much darker hue. Even ballet dancer decorations are not created in white. They don’t seem to be selling well ( BAMEs are not in abundance browsing garden centres where I live).

Can you tell me why you have not repeatedly reported on BBC radio and TV news 24/7 regarding the COVID vaccines trials data and results and UK Government’s emergency powers during COVID.
Ironically Boris – one of the key proponents of the bill – didn’t bother turning up to vote.
Jonathan Gullis’s Asylum Seekers (Removal to safe countries) bill has been defeated in the Commons by left-wing MPs. Gullis’s anti-ECHR bill won the backing of 69 MPs – almost all Tories bar the DUP’s Sammy Wilson and Rob Roberts. 188 MPs voted it down, including 124 Labour MPs, 38 SNP, 10 LibDems and plenty of independent left wingers. Four Tories voted against the bill: Robert Buckland, David Davis, Simon Hoare and David Simmonds.

Britain’s Prince Harry has acknowledged that he killed Taliban insurgents on his latest tour of duty in Afghanistan as a crew member of an Apache attack helicopter.
Harry has been serving for four months as a co-pilot gunner (CPG) in southern Helmand province – considered a Taliban heartland – and flew on scores of missions with the trigger to rockets, missiles and a 30mm cannon at his fingertips.
No one is saying how many insurgents Harry might have killed but toward the end of his deployment, the 28-year-old, known to his comrades as Captain Wales, shared some of his feelings about combat with reporters while on duty in the massive military base known as Camp Bastion. He said it was sometimes justified to “take a life to save a life. That’s what we revolve around, I suppose.”
According to some army friends he (Henry) was also known as bungalow and bunker Harry. Every photo of him running towards the whirlybird was staged so even then truth was incredibly stretched.
Just checked the ‘London Crime’ page and they are sentencing the murderer of Zara Allena. I hadn’t seen it on the main news page so I assumed it was another BAME who did it and the BBC were doing their usual trick to keep it as quiet as possible.
Then I saw the name ‘Jordan McSweeney’ which didn’t sound BAME or immigrant-like at all. I was most surprised as I discover he is proper ‘scumbag’ whitey.
So I went to check the BBC main UK page again and sure enough, there he is now with his own ‘Live Update’ story so they can keep hammering it home.
I don’t recall any ‘live update’ for the sentencing of any BAME or immigrant murderer – they usually just get a small sub-pane which quickly disappears to ‘regions’.
Good old BBC. You can depend on their racist discrimination for everything. The agenda is all that matters. They don’t care one bit about who died.
Funny how there is a need to do independent research on the details ( or lack of details ) the BBC chooses to report . Anyone who is unaware of the politics of the BBC would have no idea of what they do .

STEPHEN Fry has announced that he doesn’t understand ‘climate deniers’, implying that such people are selfish and uncaring. He delivered himself of this opinion in a puff piece for his new travel series, A Year on Planet Earth, due to drop on ITVX on December 22.
The series takes Fry to some of the most exotic and beautiful places in the world where he will emote about the flora and fauna. He hopes we will be sufficiently awestruck to help save the world from the ‘climate crisis’ but won’t be lecturing us, he says. This is a relief. But what exactly does he not understand about ‘climate deniers’?
These people deliberately avoid recognising the extremely important distinction between those who deny climate change completely and those who acknowledge it is happening but are sceptical that it is all man-made and that spending vast amounts of money can stop a natural cycle which the Earth has been through many times.
There are far too many people telling me things as fact which are simply not facts but are the opinions of people who have a financial interest in making me believe it so they can get their hands on the funding. No academic on Earth is going to tell the whole truth – their entire career depends on making it as extreme as possible.

I’ve been following the BBC Sport live text reporting of France v Morocco (as I won’t pay the TV poll tax and do stay within the law). The slightly patronizing pro-Morocco bias is typical BBC.

Thanks for that evidence . The BBC commentary types have got to say approved things about Muslim United to prevent someone more ‘approved ‘ of getting his job .
I see France as our enemy . But their footy team outplayed the Muslims … with I should think … some mostly peaceful rioting in various bits of Europe as I type …
The sh1t slurry continues as the BBC choose to highlight this:
“Terry: We are proud of you Morocco. The result did not do justice, you are a winner for the Arab, African continent and to your country. You are a hero to your people.”
[You can’t really argue with 0-2, worse than England’s narrow 1-2 defeat on Saturday. My own comment!]
“In Casablanca’s oldest cafe, Moroccan supporters were getting increasingly frustrated at their team’s struggles to score.
When this cafe was first opened in 1922, Morocco was still under French control. Tonight, people here were praying their team could defeat their former colonial ruler.
One supporter is here on holiday. He grew up in France but was born in Morocco and says he wanted the African country to win. “It’s time for Africa to lift the World Cup,” he says.” [Mayeni Jones, BBC News, in Casablanca, at 21:26]
[Walter Winterbottom, England’s manager before Sir Alf, predicted that an African team would win the World Cup by the year 2000; and I think Pele said something similar. We’re still waiting for one even to get to the final, let alone win! Before today, they hadn’t got past the quarter-final stage, e.g. Cameroon 2 England 3 in 1990 1/4-F.]
“Fairytale wise we wanted Morocco to win, …” [Rio Ferdinand at 21:38]
“The Champs-Elysees tonight is a patchwork of French and Moroccan flags – fans from both sides, jubilant at their teams’ success.
Nineteen-year-old Oumeima and 21-year-old Sarah were parading down the road carrying a Moroccan flag as wide as their smiles.
“We were magnificent!” they said. “It’s extraordinary that we were in the semi-final. We’re proud of what Morocco accomplished. It’s historic, even if we lost. Anyway, it’s win-win, because we’re also French!”
The women and their friends say they’ll support France in the final on Sunday, but even if France retain the trophy, they say, “we won’t party the way we party for Morocco”. [Lucy Williamson, BBC News, in Paris, at 21:48.]
‘We are all one nation’

Ian Williams
BBC Sport Africa in London [21:51]
“Despite the result, Morocco supporters watching in Cricklewood gave a huge cheer as the full-time whistle blew. They feel immense pride in their team’s achievement and how it has put Morocco – and the Arab world – on the map.
In freezing conditions, it wasn’t only Moroccan nationals watching under blankets, drinking tea and smoking shisha. Tunisians, Algerians and Egyptians were in Cafe Prego. “We are all one nation,” said one fan who believes the tournament in Qatar has been the best World Cup ever and has united London’s Arab diaspora.”
[“We are all one nation” – does he mean the Muslim umma? Is ethno-nationalism ok if it’s the approved people doing it?!]

The lawyers and the rest fall back on the 75% of applicants being declared as ‘ refugees ‘… but that is never challenged – the combination of ‘playing the system ‘ versus ‘administrative convenience ‘ trumping reality that maybe 1% of those arriving could be real refugees – who should be in France – none – none should be here ….

TOADY Watch #2 – hah ha! We told you so.
I wonder why?

NICE to see all the ambulances lined up and waiting (empty) for those being brought ashore after uptipping in the Channel ! I wonder how many heart attacks were happening in the Kent area as they’re told it’ll be an hour plus before an ambulance gets to them, or a child needs urgent attention, or a pensioner has slipped on the ice and is covered in blankets — while those fu…..rs who have a blanket around their shoulders get preferential treatment.

Ah yes, but you’re making the mistake of assuming that the “legacy population” (i.e. White British) matters more than illegal immigrants, which, to the globalists who now run things here, they don’t.

Bloody Bono in goal again for Morroco against France.
If he starts singing its the off switch.

Lots of Moroccans live in France, so maybe there’ll be rioting after the game, whoever wins.
Which the BBC won’t cover, of course, unless they can blame it on those racist French.

I’ve been following the BBC Sport live text reporting of France v Morocco (as I won’t pay the TV poll tax and do stay within the law). The slightly patronizing pro-Morocco bias is typical BBC.
“Morocco still have the chance to make history and finish third in the final game.” [Didier Drogba, Ivory Coast star]
“There is Moroccan interest in Cricklewood, London, too…
This is 85-year-old Mr Habib. He is Tunisian but supporting Morocco. He came to London with a German friend in 1966 for the World Cup final at Wembley and never left.”
“France don’t deserve to be 2-0 up. Morocco have been the better side. Well let’s see how they perform against Argentina who are on top form, especially being Messi’s last World Cup!! I know who I am supporting.” [Text from a certain Liz at 20:49]
“The Morocco players can be proud of themselves. It has been a really brave performance.” [Danny Murphy, former player, 20:45]
“Yassir Drissi is a Franco-Moroccan financial consultant and Morocco supporter and his friend Adrien Latreille is supporting France
“I convinced my friend Adrien, who is a France supporter to come tonight in the ‘enemy territory’ to watch this match, in this Moroccan restaurant in Paris!” says Yassir.
“I am sure Morocco will catch up! It’s just the beginning. It would be crazy and historical if that happens. We still believe! Come on Morocco!
“I like this team for its combativity. We took a first goal because we were panicking but we will come back and we will fight.
“I would really like to see Morocco win and win the World Cup. I love France and respect it!
“Vive la France, but when it comes to football, my heart is Moroccan.” [Marianne Baisnee, BBC Sport in Paris, 20:25]
“They may have been 1-0 down at half-time but that hasn’t dented the Moroccan spirit in The Hague.
Khalid’s trunk full of fireworks is open and the fuses are being lit.
“Of course we can still win,” a groups of guys assured me. “We come back with more gas.”
The air is full of flashes, bangs and optimism.” [BBC’s Anna Holligan reporting from The Hague at 20:12].
“Three police officers on bicycles pull up outside the shisha cafe where about one hundred Morocco fans have congregated to watch the game.
Sweet cherry aromas waft around the cosy make-shift arena. A band sporadically strikes galvanizing rhythms.
One of the officers tells me, no one has a night off tonight.
A ‘neighbourhood father’ drops by wearing a curly orange wig teamed with a red and green Morocco scarf.
Approximately 400,000 Moroccans live in the Netherlands.
“This World Cup, our team, brings us together,” Arum tells me. “And it gives us something to be proud of and celebrate.”
Dutch police are keeping an eye on the fans, and the game…” [Anna Holligan at 19:57]
etc. etc.

FT: France 2-0 Morocco

Oh dear Muslim United beaten by the surrender monkey United . Gary seemed quite deflated at HT …… but the French Team ( and manager ) were the grown ups – particularly if you compare them to Woke United and their inclusive knighthood seeking manager ….

I think that Rishi will clear the backlog of those waiting in the hotels to be assessed to see if they qualify for immigration into the UK by letting all of them in.
Maybe a handful would be returned to Albania for a photo op but the other tens of thousands will be nodded through and Rishi will be complimented for solving the backlog crisis.
And then…..off we go again.

Somebody needs to tell the BBC .That the death of the little
Six year old boy on the ice .Is a ten times more important tragic
event .Than four illegal immigrants drowning in the English
Channel.

Far more than ten times … RIP little one …

And the little six year old boy on the ice was probably white, as it is a 90% white area.
So to the BBC this is a non-story.

My source says the area isn’t really Solihull its the edge of Castle Bromich
and there was talk of the dead boys being with adults (family) who just looked on
and the young boy who didn’t know them came and tried to rescue the boys and he died.

Still no definite reporting of those tots parents – where the hell were they ? letting a 6 year old onto thin ice !
