It is the Curry Nation Weekend. You know it makes sense to cancel your TellyTax especially if, during the Coronation coverage, you are upset by the repuBBliCan BBC State Broadcaster.

Whatever …. enjoy your extra day off!

Stopped mine a long time ago and saved quite a bit of Dosh!

      • Up2snuff says:

taffman, #Me Too, I have already been upset by the BBC’s choice of presenters for TOADY so the off switch has already been activated. Electricity and emissions savings; King Charles III would approve.

Oh, I forgot to add to my Weekend topping post a hearty “God Save the King.”. He needs saving, in many senses of that word.

  2. Nibor says:

The UN Declaration of Human Rights 1948 has article 12 in it which states that no man can have his reputation impugned if he is innocent.

Britain lead the way to making that treaty and signed up to it .

So why are the Powers That Be allowing that treaty to be broken but careful to abide by any treaty which is outdated and harms the British people ?

I’m thinking of course about the BBC threatograms which start their accusations on the outside of the envelopes.

    • Up2snuff says:

Do you know, Nibor, that I haven’t received any monthly love letters from Crapita for some time. I feel sort of unwanted, sort of unloved ….. 🙁

    “Save BBC local radio”
    .. Hmm it’s gone downhill a lot
My teeth grind as Radio Humberside staff based in Hull mispronounce half the names of places in northern Lincolnshire and Scunthorpe.

A Scunthorpe Asian guy was parachuted into a job as a reporter
today I spot someone on Twitter chastising him for tweeting the name of the village he was reporting on wrong

It’s only a few miles from his urban base
he deleted the wrong name tweet

BBC Slammed Over Coronation Coverage Blackout For Other Broadcasters.

    Defund the BBC, NOW!

    • Right Angle says:

      “Shame on them!” Quite right!

GB News has the text of that joint statement:

“The decision to charge UK media companies an excessive commercial fee (with no visibility of true costs) seems perverse when the BBC is allowing foreign publishers and broadcasters the same footage for free.

“These foreign broadcasters and publishers will be allowed to stream or broadcast footage in the UK despite restrictions on UK media.”

“The hashtag #DefundTheBBC even began trending on Twitter as politicians, celebrities and viewers of GB News, Talk TV and other UK broadcasters united to blast the corporation over their stance.”

“We should defund the BBC, now more than ever. Arrogant, childish behaviour.” – Baroness Foster.

“Disgraceful but hardly unsurprising behaviour from them.” – Peter C. Barnes (political commentator).

After all that slamming and shaming, the BBC backtracked and capitulated at the eleventh hour. Honestly, they can’t be defunded soon enough!

    • Flotsam says:

I can understand it had to be one broadcaster that had to set up the cameras and sound system at some cost. But who allowed the BBC an exclusive on the event without specifying a reasonable cost for other broadcasters?

    • Flotsam says:

Looks like GB News will have to set up a TV tuned to the BBC with a camera pointed at it to capture the Coronation

    • G says:

“BBC Slammed Over Coronation Coverage Blackout For Other Broadcasters”

It won’t be a total, “Blackout” surely? Time the BBC cameramen get going with the cameras, focussing on the blacks in the crowd, it’ll disprove that assertion!

Local elections 2023: Labour eyes power after crushing Tory losses

The topics the BBC open for HYS these days are so biased for their agenda, it’s simply ridiculous.

They show just how far Left the BBC (and thus the people it appeals to) has really gone and I wish I could take those people who try to claim the BBC is not biased and rub their noses in these comments.

    Top comments:

‘Seeing the Tories getting absolutely smashed has made my day’
620 up votes. 59 down votes.

‘I can’t get my head round how more than 2000 Tory councillors get elected.’
297 up votes. 33 down votes.

‘This is what happens if you keep insisting on Brexit, biggest self harm a country can commit’
180 up votes. 48 down votes.

This kind of thing should set alarm bells ringing all over OFCOM.

I also notice that many of the first replies to these comments have been removed by the BBC. No doubt because they countered the first comment and the BBC didn’t like it so removed them to avoid offending the OP.

They are entirely unrepresentative of the British population who are forced to fund them. It’s an absolute farce.

The BBC and OFCOM need total reform. They are now completely unfit for purpose.

I was trying to find out how many blue labour councillors lost their seat but it still seems unclear …. At least 1000..? When councils go woke they go broke

My eye was caught by a BBC website feature on ‘how to avoid the coronation ‘ …. Which featured a rare Getty images picture of 5 whitees at a ‘barbecue’….

WTF? Every Getty image the bbc put up has at least one coloured type – very often they all are . Yet this picture . Is the BBC saying all coloured folk are royalists ?

Somehow I think a large number of third worlders here have no clue of the coronation and could care less about such things ….

…..for those ‘engaging ‘with this ceremony and this king – have a nice day …. Same for those ( like me ) who will be doing their normal chores ….

  12. Jeff says:

Look, I know we live in a “multicultural” country these days…everybody keeps reminding me…

It’s evident in every TV commercial…sporting event…TV ‘tec drama…historical fiction…and it has even inveigled its way into historical fact…I’m thinking Anne Boleyn to name but one…

However, looking at GB News this morning and glancing the length and breadth of The Mall, I’m left with the immortal words of former Channel 4 front man, Jon Snow, ringing in my ears like a cultural tinnitus.

“I’ve never seen so many white people in one place…”

People have travelled from across the country and beyond to camp out in St James’s Park, just to get a glimpse of the King and the royal procession. London is the most “diverse and enriched” capital city on God’s Earth and Brixton is only a twenty minute bus ride way. And yet…

    Enjoy the coronation.

    • Up2snuff says:

On an early morning constitutional, I noticed the local Leonard Cheshire Homes entrance was festooned with bunting, however further on, the large National Trust gardens had absolutely nothing; obviously orders from head office..

The relationship between the Palace and the BBC …

        From the Giardian ( really)

The BBC has allowed Buckingham Palace to veto what footage it can use in its coronation coverage, raising questions about the national broadcaster’s impartiality in relation to the monarchy.

In recent days the BBC has submitted material to the palace for approval in royal-themed programming, only for Buckingham Palace to declare certain pieces could not be used, according to individuals with knowledge of the situation.

“The balance of the power is a little bit more with the royal household than the BBC at the moment,” said one source at the broadcaster, who said negotiations over the terms of the BBC’s coronation coverage were still ongoing just hours before proceedings were due to begin.

The BBC is leading global coverage of the event, with its footage of King Charles in Westminster Abbey to be shared with other news channels around the world. This has led to fears at rival broadcasters that they have to trust the BBC’s editorial calls over what can be shown during the formal church service.

A BBC spokesperson said: “We are focused on delivering great coverage and don’t recognise any characterisation that suggests we ever compromise our editorial integrity on any of our output.”

The BBC’s coronation coverage is being run by Claire Popplewell, who oversees royal events for the corporation. Earlier this year she was made a commander of the Royal Victorian Order by the king in recognition of her work producing the BBC’s coverage of his mother’s platinum jubilee.

Membership of the Royal Victorian Order is given to those who have served the monarch. Unlike most other honours, which are awarded on the recommendation of the government, recipients of this award are personally selected by the sovereign.

Popplewell, who was described by a BBC source as “currently one of the most powerful people within the BBC”, helps manage the broadcaster’s relationship with the palace.

To confuse matters, she is employed by the corporation’s for-profit BBC Studios commercial arm. This had led to a split between the BBC’s public service news division, which has a more stringent editorial code, and the BBC Studios team who are producing the coverage that will go out on BBC One.

This is not the first time the BBC has allowed the palace to have control over royal footage. The Guardian has previously revealed how the palace vetoed particular pieces of footage from Queen Elizabeth II’s memorial services, banning them from being reused in news reports and social media clips.

Royal staff had a WhatsApp group during the proceedings in which senior executives from the BBC, ITV and Sky News were told which footage could be used. A member of the royal household would send a message every five minutes, either approving or refusing the use of the previous block of video.

After the funeral had finished the broadcasters were allowed to submit an hour-long tape of highlights which they could reuse in future, with use of any other material requiring signoff from the palace.

The veteran broadcaster David Dimbleby, who took part in the BBC’s coverage of the queen’s funeral, later confirmed the story. In an appearance at the Henley literary festival he described being surprised by the “degree of control” exercised by Buckingham Palace over the footage of the funeral.

“There was this complete list of things that no broadcaster could show because the copyright belongs to Buckingham Palace. I think that’s wrong, just wrong. It’s just interesting how tightly controlled monarchy is.”

He also suggested that topics such as the royals’ tax affairs are “never touched by the BBC because I think they feel their viewers will not like it”.

The National Union of Journalists this week passed a motion raising concerns about the palace’s veto over royal footage. They express concerns “that a public event, paid for by the people and televised for them to be able to pay their respects should be censored in even a small way”.

It came as the BBC found itself in a last-minute standoff over the “restricting” of British news outlets’ ability to access footage by charging high fees.

The corporation’s decision to charge media companies for what the industry calls pool footage was decried as “perverse” by its rivals, who said it would stop the public from witnessing key moments of the historic day.

A statement from the newspaper industry body News Media Association said: “Given the historic significance of the occasion, all efforts should have been made by the BBC to ensure that the footage, which is created using licence fee-payer money, is distributed as widely as possible to allow UK citizens to witness this event, and the BBC has not fulfilled this obligation.

“The decision to charge UK media companies an excessive commercial fee (with no visibility of true costs) seems perverse when the BBC is allowing foreign publishers and broadcasters the same footage for free.”ENDS

‘Fight after Russian snatches Ukranian MP’s flag’

Possibly the most misleading headline of the week from the BBC here.

The Ukranian unfurled it behind the Russian as he was being interviewed. The Russian grabbed it and walked away. The Ukranian chased after him and started punching him.

Just imagine the BBC headline if it were the other way round.

Alas, in 2023, I find it impossible to imagine London and Britain ever being truly British again.

  37. Thoughtful says:

First time I’ve watched the BBC for a while and I have to say it was every bit as bad as I imagined. There were a couple of coloured choirboys, and the camera appeared drawn to them as surely as light to a black hole with them and only them being featured as close ups, and I have no objection to them being there, just the BBC infatuation with them being somehow an Ubermenschen.

The Black Gospel choir were amazing, really really good, but I couldn’t help feel I was being preached to, that they weren’t there because of how good they are but because of the colour of their skin and racial background. I’d like to see more of them, but without the political angle being forced on me.

But the whole thing seemed bland without context in history and rushed, not to mention the breaking of the promises made over Camilla, we can but hope that William gets it right next time.

So, what you are saying then, is, they are, “Hideously Black”.

Luckily , a policeman was passing and drew his truncheon and tried to calm things down but the angry guy managed to get the coppers truncheon off him and start to beat the policemen with his own truncheon …THEN , believe it or not , a crocodile came along and ate all the sausages.
