How will the BBC report the incoming Ultra Low Emissions Scheme being inflicted on unapproved vehicles in London from Tuesday 29th ? I think we can guess – and other towns and cities will be encouraged to get their schemes too …

Here are the CAA’s numbers from the last five years of all medically grounded commercial and private pilots:
· 2018 – 1,550 – normal year
· 2019 – 1,663 – first covid cases reported in December 2019
· 2020 – 851 – air travel restricted because of lockdowns, covid infections at their worst, no vaccine until December
· 2021 – 1,594 – vaccine widely available from January and mandated for US and Australian pilots in November but not for British, the majority of whom would have taken the vaccine or faced restrictions flying to countries with vaccine mandates
· 2022 – 2,784 – post vaccination, huge increase in failed medicals – 75 per cent.

Wall to wall BBC coverage of the air traffic control outage and the tens of thousands of holidaymakers stranded abroad and struggling to get back to the UK.
So……..maybe the ‘cost of living crisis’ isn’t quite as bad as the BBC have been portraying relentlessly for the past several months.

Senora O’Blene and I haven’t been away on holiday since 2007, when we rented a cottage ooop North to walk the dog and drink a few tinctures in peace and quiet.
I’ve never understood why there has to be a mad panic to go away from our home, (unless you live in Tower Hamlets or other shiteholes that Dave Hedgehog adores/needs for votes), and even this year, an urgent trip a few miles away from our home needed some serious planning, so how are normal citizens dealing with the blasted airlines’ problems, when they really knew deep down, it could be an absolute nightmare – or did they?
Surely ‘families’ have to take responsibility for their holiday plans. The airlines are just another quagmire to negotiate for a few days of cheap booze, the occasional s**g, a rotten paella and some crap fags on the return, and I really don’t believe that normal citizens will put up with all this any more!
Some years ago, I worked with a firm which sucked up to the English Tourist Board in an unbelieveable way! We courted them daily, and got some half-decent work out of the contacts, but somehow, these people don’t seem to exist any more!
Come on Beeboids, start to like the UK, not hate us because we’re mainly white!

I travel by air more or less every month . I plan the trip in detail . I assume nothing – I assume there will be some problem along the way – or multiple problems – if people can’t handle such problems – they shouldn’t travel by air – and like you – stay at home .
And the ‘parent(s) who take young children on holiday – must be just mad …

I have stewards lots of festivals
When people leave lots of tents
that’s cos
#1 They want to
#2 Stewards let them
With proper stewarding of the rule “Take your rubbish home !”
there really is less waste
.. and less money for cleanup contractors
Managers are generally bad at conserving labour for the end part of festivals.

“I don’t want to go home”
By Olivia Rudgard
For Emily Wilkie, motherhood has been monopolized by heat.
A 34-year-old charity director, Wilkie lives in London with her husband and their four-month-old son Dylan. Their un-air-conditioned apartment has large windows that make for an airy space, but they also let in constant sunlight. Once the temperature outside cracks 27C (80F), the flat stays at least three degrees warmer. Dylan, Wilkie says, is “constantly sweaty.”
“It just makes him so miserable,” she says. “You have all this guilt about being a bad mum. It is really stressful.”
Wilkie’s family is one of millions struggling in hot homes across the UK and Europe, the world’s fastest-warming continent due to climate change.

The plight of London based charity directors without a/c… awful.
When in Singapore, everyone was sweaty. So we had fans.

on @GBnews Donnachadh McCarthy is claiming that 12 children die a year in from asthma
and that 500,000 of the 9 million suffer from asthma
I wonder if his figures are robust
12 children /year is not a lot
and if they have other sever conditions like sever obesity then it’s not pure asthma that kills them
The live audience were extremely hostile to Donnachadh

Around 2.4 billion people worldwide (around a third of the global population) cook using open fires or inefficient stoves fuelled by kerosene, biomass (wood, animal dung and crop waste) and coal, which generates harmful household air pollution.
Household air pollution was responsible for an estimated 3.2 million deaths per year in 2020, including over 237 000 deaths of children under the age of 5.

“5.4 million people are using treatments for asthma”
.. in 2019/20 it was estimated that 6.5% of GP patients in England (one in fifteen) had asthma and had been prescribed asthma-related drugs within the past year
in 2020 there were 1,335 deaths registered in England and Wales where the underlying cause was recorded as asthma. Of these, 61% were among people aged 80 or above.”
The most common trigger for sufferers in the UK is colds and flu, followed by changes in weather and dust (of which cars contribute a portion).
so 6.5% of 9 million would be 585,000
London has about 1/7th of the UK population
so the asthma deaths will be about 1335/7 = 191
With 116 over 80 … and 75 under 80
“The National Review of Asthma Deaths found that 46% of the children who died from asthma had received an inadequate standard of asthma care.”
UK under 14 asthma deaths seem to vary but be about 20 per year
People point out that a lot of London’s youth are affected by knife crimes
Is there a Ultra Low Knife Crime Zone ?

So Transport for London lose a ruling regarding LEZ charges at Tribunal. Signage not legal as it did not warn there was a charge and possibly how much the charge was.
The determination seems correct and reasonable to me. A few weeks ago I posted that I had driven into the South of London and wasn’t sure if I had strayed into the Congestion charge zone or the ULEZ zone. TFL, unbelievably. when I contacted them said they had no idea if I had or not. It was up to me to work out from the signs if I had or not.
If that tribunal ruling survives the inevitable appeal and Supreme Court then every ULEZ, LEZ and Congestion Charge fine will have to be repaid! I have however no confidence that the Supreme Court will allow the ruling to stand, they have history.
If you all remember The Supreme Court found in favour of the Parking Companies in the case of Beavis v Parking Eye. Indeed there are very disturbing similar circumstances. Beavis parked multiple times on a private car park and got charged multiple times so he couldn’t really argue he didn’t know about the issue. His case was a poor one for the contract law issue so an ideal one for the Parking Companies to use as a test case.
Noel Willcox, from Hertfordshire, who runs a scaffolding company, was hit with £11,500 in fines under the low emission zone for driving a truck to and from a depot in North West London. So he could hardly claim lack of knowledge. The similarity with the Beavis parking case is remarkable, an ideal test case for TFL. It’s also come up a day or so before the ULEZ expansion. The Supreme Court has shown itself to be a liberal woke outfit who will probably want to back the Green, anti car scheme.

I wonder exactly how many vehicles registered in londonistan are subject to the ULEZ ? Million ? More ? I suppose the first fines under the expanded system will be receivev around 12 September – with payment of £80 within 14 days or the full £160 within 28 days ….
New thread going up soon ….
