Some big bod has accused the government of getting it wrong re kids kicked out of schools during covid whereas pubs had gardens open.

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cw5w76p62eqo

As usual there is a join the dots issue here with only one side of the message getting through.

Pub gardens usually have adults in them who are more likely to be cautious over crowding and contact. Schools have hordes of very young children in them who are more likely to mingle closely etc.

Pubs could have been driven out of business without the few punters in the gardens whereas schools are impossible to be driven out of business as they exist on the public money tree as do the salaries of teachers unlike bar staff and landlords.

I think this one sided myopia that has engulfed so many people is very destructive.

Also think of the reaction from teachers at the time if the government had insisted they go into class, they fled in droves to their homes as if facing armegeddon in class.

2018 … PAY FOR NHS TO PAY FOR ILLEGALS … HA HA HA … She would first make the vulnerable women undergo ‘Juju’ ceremonies which would involve them drinking blood containing worms and eating the heart of a chicken.

The victims would then be forced to endure an arduous five day journey to the Libyan coast – which saw them shot at, ambushed and gang raped.

They would then catch an inflatable boat crammed with hundreds of people to Italy before being moved into Germany to work as prostitutes.

TWatO Watch #1 – Perhaps Jonny disjointed Dymond should join?

Speaking of the Society for Pismronounciation of Words, (President for Life and After Death, Ronnie Barker), ole’ Jonny did not ‘alf make a tangle of the name Sebastopol (or alternatively Sevastopol) during the final third of the programme. It is quite a simple name. Jonny probably had smoked a spliff to get him through the programme and had not remembered to check with the 100 strong* BBC Pronounciation Unit beforehand as he was so relaxed.

    * perhaps the BBC have had to make economies and have slashed the number working in the PU due to TellyTax cancellations?

Rutherglen and Hamilton West: Labour ‘blew the doors off’ in by-election win – Starmer
    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-scotland-politics-67029360

Turnout of 37% in Rutherglen & Hamilton West by-election
    https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/in-your-area/lanarkshire/turnout-37-rutherglen–hamilton-31118858

Turnout for the vote was 37.19%, a dramatic fall from the 66.5% recorded at the last general election.

“That means the Labour vote in the constituency is almost as high as it was in 2010 before the tsunami that swept the Labour Party from virtually every constituency in Scotland.”

tsunami … ‘blew the doors off’ … no one interested.

Yup, but I still save around fifteen quid a month in Tesco CCard Plus, and take no notice of third-party crap sent down to the PC!

You can beat them to their own game to a certain extent, by just buying essentials, or ‘utility’ stuff, and leave it at that, but who takes the time to bother about that?

Well I do actually and I am quite happy with the quality of supermarket own brands BUT I do wonder who manufactures these so called own brands. One small instance here. Now, at my local Tesco I always buy Stockwell crisps as apposed to the overpriced Lineker brand but I have no way of knowing if Linekers produce ALL the supermarket own brands wherever I shop. After all they would certainly have the facility to do so.
Can any of you brainy buggers on this site advise please. It would be much appreciated, thank you.

This is a country in which a Minister of the Crown can suggest on the BBC’s Andrew Marr Show that Nigel Farage looks as if someone has put his finger up Nigel’s bottom and “he really rather likes it”:

Defence minister Anna Soubry stunned TV viewers when she said Ukip leader Nigel Farage ‘looks like somebody has put their finger up his bottom’.

Fellow guests on the BBC’s Andrew Marr Show were taken aback as a laughing Ms Soubry made a gesture with her finger and added it looked as if ‘he really rather likes it’.

Which doesn’t sound Nigel’s bag at all. And actually, even if it was, that’s rather less kinky than a “respectable” “lady” eager to fantasise about such things in front of millions of people on the world’s most prestigious broadcast network.

And yet Anna Soubry survived – for a few years, at least. I was so startled by the interview that I put a similarly potty-mouthed Cabinet minister in The Prisoner of Windsor.

TOADY Watch #2 – have the BBC and the TOADY programme been ‘spoofed’ again?

The BBC is a sucker for press releases and some mischevous people take the BBC for a little ride from time to time. It must also be remembered that NGOs make mistakes like the 1990s famous Friends of the Earth or Greenpeace “Venice is drying out due to Global Warming.”. For those not in the know, Venice is a tidal sea lagoon.

This morning’s ‘nonsense’ may have an ulterior motive behind it. It came from the UN. It could be that UNICEF’s coffers are empty and they want to hurry some donations along. In the 6 a.m. News it was suggested that millions of children are being displaced around the globe because of climate change. More cautious News broadcasters might ask where are all these millions of children? Not the BBC, who are firmly New Labour and believe in Climate Change to the nth degree.

The fact that this item disappeared from the 2 p.m. News (it was heading, iirc, the 6 a.m. News) probably means that the BBC once again have been spoofed. As it was Climate Change related I thought it would have been on the BBC web-site but I cannot find any reference to it. ‘Too good to be true’ as our Stew (and Hannah Fry would say) means that the BBC have probably been spoofed again.

Coming to the end of this thread ( thanks ) – but I’m pondering the outcome of the Scot’s bi election last night . Ok – I’m an evil Englishman – I haven’t spent a great deal of time in Scotland – just Edinburgh – but I don’t get how the snp vote collapsed .

Surely SNp suppprters Would hang on to their hatred of England and the English – whatever their fired MP did …. After all – they put up with the corruption of the senior command long enough …. And elected a sleaze bag in charge now … I don’t get it ….
    ( actually who cares ?)
