Stew, just maybe my mother’s stories about my great-grandmother are true; it was told to me she was Jewish and came to the UK from the east. My late mother indicated ‘east’ with a sweep of the arm that went from the north pole to the equator!
The date of my maternal grandmother’s birthday, the only grandparent that I knew, ties in with the pogroms in Ukraine. It was said to me that this Jewish woman was a midwife who delivered my late mother. My mother became a Christian in her teens with a life-long friend, a class mate, and they attended an Anglican church in Highgate where they grew up together.
I, too, am a firm believer in Jeshua (Jesus) so I have transfered my allegiance out of the Jewish faith. A best friend from Primary School days, married a nominal Christian and his father, an Orthodox Jew, refused to attend the civil wedding and the reception. Am I Jewish in origin? I don’t know for sure. I intended to find out as I understand there is a synagogue in central West London that holds records of Jewish immigrants to the UK but just at that time the Pandemic struck and I never did anything about it. But I am a firm believer in the most famous Jew of all, one who divides the calendar by the date of His birth, the Lord Jesus Christ. 🙂
