Michael deacon in the DT on the pro Israel BBC

STARTS Lately, I must confess, one or two of my columns have been just a touch critical of the BBC’s news coverage. Today, however, I feel compelled to defend it. Well, sort of. Because on Monday, pro-Palestinian activists sprayed blood-red paint all over Broadcasting House – in retaliation for what they called the BBC’s “pro-Israel bias”.

Yes, you read that correctly. That’s what they said. Which, in my view, prompts the following question.

What sort of idiot thinks the BBC is biased towards Israel?

For the life of me, I simply cannot figure out how these crazed paint-sprayers reached such a bizarre conclusion. Are they perhaps watching a different BBC from the rest of us? Is there, unknown to me, a channel named BBC Zionist, which fervently applauds Benjamin Netanyahu’s every move?

All I can say is: that’s not something I’ve ever witnessed on the BBC. Far from it. The BBC I’m familiar with is the one which has persistently refused to refer to Hamas as a terrorist group – even though this is precisely how Hamas is classified under UK law.

The BBC I know, furthermore, has had to apologise for mistakenly referring to Palestinian prisoners as “hostages”, and to Israeli hostages as “prisoners”. Meanwhile, its own former director of television, Danny Cohen, has said that the BBC is “at risk of becoming a Hamas propaganda mouthpiece”. He has also published a report which accuses the BBC’s coverage of making “false and damaging claims about Israel’s conduct of this war”, and claims that “appalling lapses in accuracy have served to fuel the flames of anti-Semitism that have spread across the world”.

And there’s more. Six weeks after Oct 7, 2023, the BBC’s best-paid presenter, Gary Lineker, urged his 8.9 million followers on X to watch a video in which an academic accused Israel of committing “textbook genocide”. Oh, and just this week, the BBC was accused of using the son of a Hamas official to narrate a documentary about the plight of “ordinary Palestinians”.

Do these paint-spraying activists consider the above to be evidence of the BBC’s “pro-Israel bias”? Or do they think that, from time to time, the BBC deliberately makes itself sound as if it’s anti-Israel, as a cunning ploy to prevent the public from realising that it’s actually pro-Israel?

Defenders of the BBC are of course entitled to argue that it’s incredibly difficult, if not outright impossible, to achieve perfect balance in coverage of this conflict. They’re also entitled to argue that, while the BBC makes the occasional mistake, it’s trying as hard as it can to be fair to both sides. Fine. What I can’t understand, though, is how anyone in his or her right mind could think the BBC is demonstrating rabid “pro-Israel bias”. Yet that, apparently, is the sincere view of the enraged pro-Palestinian activists who vandalised Broadcasting House.

I wonder what the BBC would have to do to satisfy these lunatics. Perhaps they’d like Sophie Raworth to present News at Six in a keffiyeh. Or Clive Myrie to sign off his bulletins by saying, “death to the wicked Zionist dogs, inshallah. And now here’s Tomasz with the weather.”ENDS

My assessment – the vermin who threw red paint at the bbc are extreme Islamic foreign students – next step – full terrorist attack or to kill a BBC pro Israel journalist …

Quick fact check on The Donald’s claim…

“Whilst acknowledging that handcuffing people should not be a ‘default’ action, Met Police Commissioner Cressida Dick, addressing the Home Affairs select committee this week, asserted “I don’t believe I do run a police service in which handcuffing is routine.”

With respect, I beg to differ. The robotic, thoughtless handcuffing of people following arrest/ during searches, is an endemic problem amongst the Police nationwide, which really deserves more serious attention than it is getting. Statistics show that during 2018- 19 Officers in England and Wales used handcuffs over 300,000 times (with black people, for the record, some 6 times more likely than white people to be handcuffed).

Many Officers seem to think that the manacling of a person’s hands is almost a formal requisite of every arrest/ detention, irrespective of how compliant, co- operative and non- threatening their subject is. Handcuffing should in fact be the exception, not the rule; it is a use of force, an act of violence, very likely to cause at least transitory pain to a person, whilst at the worse extreme it can result in fractures, nerve damage and/or permanent scaring to the arm. Over and above the physical impact, there is also the psychological damage caused by the shock and humiliation of having your hands chained together, often in a very public place. It is a degrading act to be performed upon anyone and seems wholly at odds with that principle of ‘innocent until proven guilty’ upon which our justice system is founded; to be placed in handcuffs is at once a casual assertion by the Police of their total power over you, and at the same time an emotionally outrageous branding/ marking of you as a criminal – or at least, a suspected criminal.

I fully accept that there are plenty of occasions when the Police are fully justified in using handcuffs to restrain a violent individual, but I have acted for countless people who in no way meet that definition, and the current media spotlight is further highlighting the extent of this problem.”

BBC admits Trump might be right as they tell us that Ukrainians are subject to decisions ‘made above the heads of the people’.

So Trump might be right when he says there should be elections to allow Ukrainians to decide if they want to continue the war or to sue for peace.

Ah but…says the BBC….Churchill suspended elections during WW2…ah but says I…that government was a ‘government of ‘national unity’…of all the major parties not just one party as in Ukraine now though the BBC insists Ukrainians support Zelensky…

‘In peacetime it [term in office] would have expired, and an election would have been called. But the martial law brought in with Russia’s full-scale invasion means that can’t happen, and there’s broad public support for that too.’

[They can’t hold elections during the war ….’There are also immense practical hurdles with a potential election’….but can claim support by holding random polls?]

Trump is not wasting time on diplomatic niceties and speaks uncomfortable truths….the EU moans that it is not in the negotiations…but why did it not start the negotiations itself? It’s had years to do so. Was it not that most were in denial and refused to accept that Ukraine could never ‘win’ against the huge resources of Russia but also refused to arm Ukraine properly so that it could make a much better defence and make it so costly for Russia that it would settle for the gains it had made and negotiate a peace. They kept Ukraine in the war but only enough for it to just barely survive and basically be slowly kicked to death over an extended period.

Either arm Ukraine properly, and Zelensky call up all the young men he has refused to so far, or accept a loss of some land.

Shame we don’t get a properly nuanced narrative from the BBC on this…what they give us is just ‘horror’ at whatever Trump says regardless of its truth….they give us a very particular line that verges on propaganda.

There have been plenty of rows between the two leaders during almost three years of conflict, but the argument that began to unfold last week may be the one to end them all.

          Helsinki Times:

“The tragic end of Gonzalo Lira: A voice silenced in Ukraine.

Lira saw the conflict as a proxy war waged by US against Russia and critisised the loss of life for a futile and unwindable war.

Gonzalo Lira, a Chilean-American war commentator known for his critical views on the Zelensky regime and Russia-Ukraine conflict, passed away on January 11, 2024, in a hospital in Kharkiv, Ukraine. Lira’s death followed an eight-month imprisonment on charges of ”justifying Russia’s military actions in Ukraine”, sparking international controversy and raising questions about freedom of speech and human rights during wartime.

High-profile figures like tech mogul Elon Musk and Fox News host Tucker Carlson called for his release, bringing global attention to his case.

The news of Lira’s deteriorating health emerged from communications between his father, Gonzalo Lira Sr., and the US embassy. Documents and emails revealed attempts by Lira Sr. to alert the embassy about his son’s critical condition and the lack of transparency from Ukrainian authorities regarding his health status.

“I cannot accept the way my son has died. He was tortured, extorted, incommunicado for 8 months and 11 days and the US Embassy did nothing to help my son,” Lira Sr. stated in an email announcing the news.

“The responsibility of this tragedy is [with] the dictator Zelensky with the concurrence of a senile American President, Joe Biden,” he wrote, adding: “My pain is unbearable. The world must know what is going on in Ukraine with that inhuman dictator Zelensky.”

In a poignant hand written note, Lira described his health ordeal, including double pneumonia, pneumothorax, and severe oedema. This letter, believed to be his last written correspondence, detailed the neglect he faced in prison. Despite these alarming symptoms, proper medical attention was reportedly delayed until it was too late.”

In the hostage ‘live update’ article:
‘Hamas says it did ‘everything in its power’ to keep hostages alive’

‘Hamas released a statement in which it repeated its claim that the four hostages whose bodies are being returned today were killed in Israeli strikes.’
‘The group says it did “everything in [its] power to protect” the hostages and “preserve their lives”.’
‘It says Israel’s “brutal and continuous bombardment prevented them from being able to rescue all” the hostages.’
‘Addressing the families of the hostages directly, Hamas says it would have preferred to have returned them alive.’
“You were a victim of a leadership that does not care about its children,” it adds.’

Perhaps a few reminders that Hamas are terrorists and how they have been using civilians as human shields in UN compounds might have been appropriate here BBC to give the reliability of their statement some context.

And printing that Israel do not care about their children without mentioning what Hamas did to children in their terrorist attack is simply disgusting. It is entirely relevant.

‘The BBC has been forced to apologise for using the son of a Hamas government minister in a documentary about ordinary Palestinians.

The documentary, Gaza: How to Survive a Warzone, was broadcast on Monday evening as an account of the conflict through the eyes of three Gazan children.

It has since emerged the hour-long film’s narrator – Abdullah Al-Yazouri, 14 – is the son of Ayman Alyazouri, who is deputy minister of agriculture in the Hamas-run government.

The BBC issued an apology on Wednesday night, claiming it “had not been informed” of the connection by the documentary’s producers before it was broadcast.

“We followed all of our usual compliance procedures in the making of this film, but we had not been informed of this information by the independent producers when we complied and then broadcast the finished film,” a spokesman said.
    ‘Under the bus’

Danny Cohen, the former controller of BBC Television, said the corporation had failed to do “basic journalistic checks” and accused it of “trying to throw the producer of the documentary under the bus”.

“Yesterday the BBC claimed they had ‘full editorial control’,” he said. “Today it is someone else’s fault.’

Just the usual from the BBC but Jake Wallis Simons in the Telegraph says…

‘At long last, we have the BBC’s smoking gun moment’

‘ Be in no doubt: for all the kernels of truth, this was clever propaganda.

For one thing, there was not a single image of a gun, let alone a terrorist, either living or dead. Jihadis were invisible when wounded civilians were seen and great prominence was given to claims that Hamas was nowhere near any target. Why was this? After all, the Strip is bristling with men-at-arms, particularly in areas targeted by the IDF.

The simple answer is one we have known for years: Hamas has always censored all footage of its terrorists in order to curate the false impression that Israel is waging war on civilians.

Similarly, there was the liberal use of Hamas casualty figures. At the very end of the programme, viewers were informed that “57,136 people dead or missing since the war began,” and that “17,841 of them are children”. We were also told that journalists have been unable to independently verify the numbers. But – as usual – there was zero mention of Israel’s claim that about half the dead were terrorist fighters.

It’s not like the BBC didn’t know that its reporters are liable to be manipulated. In April, a captured Islamic Jihad media spokesman called Tarek Abu Shaluf revealed on camera exactly how the terrorists play the media, and how journalists are complicit in this misinformation campaign.
Reporters knew full well that the propaganda they were given was fabricated, he added, but they broadcasted it to the world anyway so that Hamas didn’t stop cooperating. “They need us for more interviews,” he said.

Which brings us to the hard truth: without the complicity of the BBC and other media outlets, the terrorists would have far less incentive to sacrifice their own people in this way. It may be no exaggeration to suggest that that our national broadcaster has blood on its hands.’

True…BBC News kills Jews….and ironically Palestinians sacrificed ‘for the cause’ by Hamas.

This video demonstrates how much it might cost…and if you’re not prepared to pay the exhorbitant sum to fix the problem then the car is scrap only.

The car is a hybrid but designed, as many are, so that you need a working main drive battery in order to charge the small 12v battery that provides energy to the usual car requirements such as when driving an internal combustion car…if the main battery goes you cannot then drive on the combustion engine because there is no 12v battery….it’s a design flaw but only because the EV battery fails…

I learnt a new word today… not BBC but the Guardian: “In just a few years, Kennedy and his dangerously popular ‘diagonalist’ politics have gone from the fringes of the web to, perhaps, the White House”.

It’s a rehashed attack on populism in a different form. RFK has “mass appeal”… but mass appeal and being well accepted by the electorate we now know is risky. Only via leaders who are not afraid to be deeply unpopular like Starmer can the world be put right. Diagonalism — a pseudo-academic nonsense term which adds nothing except gives Guardian hacks pocket money I suppose.

RAF MILDENHALL, England — On March 7, 1966, General Charles De Gaulle, the French President, informed the United States government the all foreign troops must leave France.

That was the end result of a number of agendas which began with the French desire to develop a self-determinate nuclear arsenal, remove France from what it considered an unequal partnership with the United Kingdom and the United States in NATO, and free it from being drawn into a conflict between the North Atlantic Treaty Organization members and members of the Warsaw Pact, should the Russian forces encroach on West Germany territory.

    https://www.mildenhall.af.mil/News/Article-Display/Article/272283/looking-back-de-gaulle-tells-american-forces-to-leave-france/

However, his real intent was to draw NATO forces into France’s colonial affairs regarding their conflict with insurgents in Algeria.

When Eisenhower and McMillan refused, De Gaulle began building up the defenses of France and pulled the French Mediterranean Fleet out of NATO command on March 11, 1959.

From the DT – the BBC – friend and ally of Islamic Hamas

STARTS Lisa Nandy, the Culture Secretary, is to hold urgent discussions with the BBC over concerns the licence fee-funded corporation broadcast a documentary featuring Hamas propaganda.

The BBC issued an apology on Wednesday night after featuring the son of a Hamas minister in a documentary about the plight of ordinary Palestinian children, without disclosing the connection.

Ms Nandy said she would be talking to the broadcaster to emphasise the importance of “getting it right” in its coverage of the Gaza conflict.

She made the intervention within hours of the BBC acknowledging that it had failed to tell viewers that 14-year-old Abdullah Al-Yazouri, the central figure and narrator of the documentary, was the son of Ayman Alyazouri, deputy minister of agriculture in the Hamas-run government.

Gaza: How to Survive a Warzone, was broadcast on Monday evening as an account of the conflict through the eyes of three Gazan children.

The BBC apologised on Wednesday, claiming it “had not been informed” of the connection by the documentary’s producers before it was broadcast.

Ms Nandy spoke as pictures emerged of one of the other children featured in the BBC documentary appearing to pose with Hamas fighters.

Zakaria, 11, is seen in one of the pictures posted on social media wearing a Hamas headband and clutching a machine gun while standing next to a fighter. In another, he is seen with his arm around a Hamas gunman.

In separate video footage, he is seen leading children in chanting praise for Mohammed Deif, one of the architects of the October 7 Hamas attacks on Israel.

It is unclear when the images were taken, but they will add to concerns that the BBC failed to carry out proper checks regarding the background of the film’s protagonists.

Orly Goldschmidt, spokeswoman for the Israeli embassy in London, wrote on X: “The second child chosen by the BBC2 documentary seems to – amongst other things – praise Mohammed Deif, one of the evil minds that planned and executed October 7th.”

Zakaria, who is seen here posing alongside Hamas fighters

The corporation has now added a disclaimer to the documentary, which admits the Hamas link but continues to insist the documentary makers had “full editorial control”.

BBC journalists were said to be alarmed at the way the documentary was produced and broadcast in its current form.

One insider told Deadline magazine: “It’s a terrible, terrible mess. It’s really weird that they got themselves into this position and didn’t see the problems coming.”

‘It is essential that we get this right’
Critics said the BBC had allowed itself to be used as a propaganda platform for Hamas by giving airtime to the child of one of its senior figures.

In an interview with LBC on Thursday morning about the documentary Ms Nandy said: “I watched it last night. It’s something that I will be discussing with them, particularly around the way in which they sourced the people who were featured in the programme.

“These things are difficult and I do want to acknowledge that for the BBC, they take more care than most broadcasters in terms of the way that they try to portray these things.

“They’ve been attacked for being too pro-Gaza. They’ve been attacked for being anti-Gaza.

“But it is absolutely essential that we get this right.”

Abdullah’s father, and Hamas official, Ayman Alyazouri
The BBC claimed they ‘had not been informed’ about the child’s link to Ayman Alyazouri, the Hamas official
Ms Nandy said she would also be discussing staff training on anti-Semitism within the BBC and its wider handling of the Gaza conflict and Israel “and the way in which they treat those internally for staff”.

She made the comments in the wake of an open letter to the BBC signed by dozens of broadcasting and media industry figures demanding an investigation into the way the documentary was made.

The signatories, who included Danny Cohen, the former controller of BBC Television; JK Rowling’s agent Neil Blair; agent Anita Land; and Claudia Rosencrantz, a Britain’s Got Talent commissioner, called for the BBC to remove the documentary from iPlayer.

‘Trying to throw the producer under the bus’
Mr Cohen said the BBC had failed to do “basic journalistic checks” and accused it of “trying to throw the producer of the documentary under the bus”.

He said: “Yesterday the BBC claimed they had ‘full editorial control’. Today it is someone else’s fault.

“The serious questions asked of the BBC remain unanswered: why did our national broadcaster fail to carry out the basic journalistic checks needed to ensure that propaganda from the terrorists of Hamas was not broadcast in primetime?”

A formal complaint about the film was also lodged by the campaign group Labour Against Antisemitism, which said the documentary saw “Hamas propaganda promoted as reliable fact at the taxpayers’ expense”.

In its statement the BBC said: “We followed all of our usual compliance procedures in the making of this film, but we had not been informed of this information by the independent producers when we complied and then broadcast the finished film.

“We’ve promised our audiences the highest standards of transparency, so it is only right that as a result of this new information, we add some more detail to the film before its retransmission,” a spokesman said.

“The film remains a powerful child’s eye view of the devastating consequences of the war in Gaza which we believe is an invaluable testament to their experiences, and we must meet our commitment to transparency.”

Mr Alyazouri, Abdullah’s father, is related to Ibrahim Al-Yazouri, one of the founders of Hamas, and has previously appeared to praise two Hamas “martyrs” who were said to have been involved in the murder of four Israelis in 2023ENDS

So who is going to fact check the BBC – has the BBC committed a crime by supporting a banned terrorist organisation .

    Who gets to resign ?

How much did the BBC pay HAMAS ?

If Christians had beheaded 70 Muslims in a mosque, which they would not do and should not do, you’d never hear the end of it. But this? Nothing.”

I’ve been watching the various responses surrounding the casting of an ugly, bald black lesbian in the role of Jesus, in the musical, Jesus Christ Superstar. Yes, it’s irritating, but I think the best response is one of slightly indulgent mockery, rather than frothing outrage. After all, outrage is what they want…They feed on it…

If people had just yawned and mocked the talentless Tracy Emin and Damien Hirst they wouldn’t have gained such a following. Shallow and pretentious Avant-garde types infest the arts, but most of them only have the ability to shock; a bit like naughty teenagers.

Anyway, this musical is bound to bomb. The most recent cobblers they presented us with was Doctor Who, which had a black and gay doctor, with stories that tried to lecture instead of entertain. This is now so disliked it’s getting lower viewing figures than Diane Abbott’s diet videos.

So, smile, gently mock and move along.

And in six months watch it go down in flames…

While we caution against the misattribution of COVID-19’s origins, the wild animals on sale in Wuhan suffered poor welfare and hygiene conditions and we detail a range of other zoonotic infections they can potentially vector. Nevertheless, in a precautionary response to COVID-19, China’s Ministries temporarily banned all wildlife trade on 26th Jan 2020 until the COVID-19 pandemic concludes, and permanently banned eating and trading terrestrial wild (non-livestock) animals for food on 24th Feb 2020. These interventions, intended to protect human health, redress previous trading and enforcement inconsistencies, and will have collateral benefits for global biodiversity conservation and animal welfare.”

Hamas sickens the world with vile parade of child hostages’ coffins: Terror group condemned for ‘abhorrent and cruel’ act… as tearful Israelis line the streets to salute the dead.

Hamas has been condemned for parading the coffins of hostages in Gaza, with the United Nations rights chief saying the ‘abhorrent’ treatment of the October 7 attack victims ‘flies in the face of international law.’

Thousands of people, including large numbers of masked and armed fighters, had gathered at the site in Khan Younis, southern Gaza, to watch the chilling handover ceremony, filming, cheering and waving banners.

One poster on display depicted a man standing over coffins wrapped in Israeli flags. It read ‘The Return of the War = The Return of your Prisoners in Coffins’

‘under international law, any handover of the remains of deceased must comply with the prohibition of cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment, ensuring respect for the dignity of the deceased and their families.

Germany’s foreign minister Annalena Baerbock described the images of the handover as ‘almost unbearable,’ adding that the hostage’s families had been ‘exposed to the limitless terror of Hamas until the end.’

On Wednesday the Red Cross called for privacy and dignity for the deceased, saying in a statement: ‘We must be clear: any degrading treatment during release operations is unacceptable.’
