Amazon had sales income of €44bn in Europe in 2020 but paid no corporation tax
This article is more than 3 years old
Despite lockdown surge the firm’s Luxembourg unit made a €1.2bn loss and therefore paid zero corporation tax

      https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2021/may/04/amazon-sales-income-europe-corporation-tax-luxembourg

The Luxembourg unit – which handles sales for the UK, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Spain and Sweden – employs just 5,262 staff meaning that the income per employ amounts to €8.4m.

Margaret Hodge, a Labour MP who has long campaigned against tax avoidance, said: “It seems that Amazon’s relentless campaign of appalling tax avoidance continues.

      ………..

“The Luxembourg Armed Forces, or Lëtzebuerger Arméi, has around 900 professional soldiers and 200 civilian staff. This makes it one of the smallest armies in NATO and the European Union. “

I simply don’t know if the assertions here stand up, but, it sounds about right ?

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent revealed tonight that his meeting with President Zelensky in Ukraine was also a disaster.

Bessent went over there to get the mineral rights agreement earlier this year and explained very clearly to Zelenskyy that this was to show Russia that there is no daylight between Ukraine and the US.

It would also give the US an economic interest in the country. But Zelenskyy refused to sign it, apparently not understanding how this was supposed to make the US and Ukraine partners.

On the day of the atrocity, Safia al-Yazouri wrote on Facebook: “Amen O Lord,” along with an emoji of hands clasped in thanks and a green heart.

She is believed to be the daughter of Ayman Al-Yazouri, a deputy agriculture minister in Gaza’s Hamas government, and the sister of Abdullah, pictured above, who narrated Gaza: How To Survive A Warzone.

The BBC has admitted that Hoyo Films, the independent production company that made the documentary, had paid the boy’s mother “via his sister’s bank account” for his narrating services.’

Jeremy Bowen: Trump-Zelensky row signals looming crisis between Europe and US
    https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c2d4e395jxeo

Mad dog Bowen is back – and just look what he wrote and the BBC have published:

‘President Trump had already called him a dictator and said Ukraine started the war – which is a lie.’

It’s not even the news. It’s Bowen simply rehashing an old story. And where is HIS evidence that it is a lie ?.

And once again the fat far-Left oaf is telling us conclusions based on mysterious ‘sources’:
‘There are suspicions now that the public row was – in the words of one diplomatic observer – a planned political mugging’

WTF is a ‘diplomatic observer’ Bowen ?.

    And then he writes:
‘He has put heavy pressure on Ukraine while offering Putin big concessions – that would have to be made by the Ukrainians.’
‘The security of Ukraine is coming a poor second – and Europeans are worrying theirs is too.’

What is the alternative Bowen ?. Ukraine are losing ground and men by the day.

I notice how none of these people have any suggestions whatsoever about ending the war. Perhaps Bowen should be writing about the result of the ‘Peace in Ukraine’ summit where they came up with absolutely nothing. I’m certain the whole point of that meeting was to work out how they could get a piece of the actions if Trump did indeed make a deal.

    What a farce.

‘Trump and Vance were so rude’: Ukrainians react to disastrous White House meeting
    https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cgr2g4n4wvdo

Goodness me – what an absolutely pathetic propaganda article by the BBC. Even by their standards.

They’ve done their usual trick of interviewing people then carefully rewriting what they say whilst intertwining it with emotion.

‘”It was an emotional conversation, but I understand our president,” Yulia tells me next to Kyiv’s golden-domed St Sofia’s cathedral.’

This rubbish would not be out of place in a WW2 newsreel. You can always tell when the BBC have an agenda but no argument : they fall back on imagery and empathy.

‘As sirens wail and missiles slam into cities, this is a war still raging, despite all of the talk of ending it.’

And there is the biggest lie of all. There is no talk of ending it whatsoever except from Trump. Everyone else is trying to sabotage his efforts. I’m still somwhat in awe of how the fact Boris sabotaged an agreement in the early days was kept so secret from us. It shows the extent of the lies around this war.

I was just speed-reading this BBC propaganda and some more unusual wording caught my eye – because what it was telling me was a lie:

‘as it adapts to the Trump administration’s desire to be less involved in European defence’

I have NEVER heard Trump say that they want to pull out of NATO. All he has said is that Europe should pay it’s fair share.

Then I realised they are very carefully chosen words. By ‘less involved’, the BBC’s ‘Tom McArthur’ means contributing less money. But not being less involved in NATO operations. This weasel has chosen them words to make it sound like the USA are pulling out and thus pushing the agenda for the EU to arm itself in it’s goal to be the worlds No.1 superpower.

You will not be surprised in any way that Tom also lists his experience as:
‘As seen in: BBC, Medium, Yahoo Entertainment, Yahoo Life, MSN (US), MSN Ireland, MSN Singapore, MSN South Africa, MSN UK, Terra, The Daily Mirror ‘

Every one at the BBC I checked recently has a similar list of the most Left news sites.

More clear proof of their institutional left-wing bias.

As she says, people such as the BBC who have completely bought in to the ‘Saving Democracy’ lies and absolute nonsense spouted by Zelensky cannot simply do an about-turn without looking utterly stupid. So they keep pushing it.

I’m still absolutely perplexed at how they can say they won’t back any ceasefire which gives anything at all to Russia and so are willing to let thousands more Ukranians die while Russia keep taking more territory. It makes no sense which is why it must be a cynical, deliberate plan to sacrifice Ukrainian lives as part of a bigger agenda. And the EU wanting to be the worlds No.1 superpower might just be it.

Hardly a surprise given the calibre of players involved, but making sense of this is proving an exercise in futility.

It is pretty clear that as a small country, the U.K. has punched above its weight, and that in no small part was through national will. But some key aspects that once existed have gone. Respect for authority. National Pride. Belief in treasured institutions. Demographic coherence. Small c conservative values. Now this green and pleasant land is a segmented, fractured society, with a deranged political class relying on a demented media estate and corrupted public services bloc to hold things together as an eroding majority of hard working, decent folk see the minority get away with multiple colours of murder, often not just figuratively.

What has tangibly been achieved in the last 48 hours since the debacle in the Oval Office, notwithstanding who was dumber than a box of rocks drunk on their own press entourage adoration, or who was ‘undiplomatic’ dealing with them trying to exploit things in ways that worked before with likeminded simpletons?

Words are cheap, so a queue of tv studio frequent flyers, political or media, solemnly intoning ‘leadership’, ‘true statesman’ is laughable.

World War Z has his war still. Plus a few more billion to fight it an extra week.

Once he runs out of local meat grinder fare, he has a dubious commitment from such as Ursula, Macron, TTK, that German Skull, to send their half dozen combatants, leading from a bunker tv studio advised by JezBo.

He has a photo op described as a diplomatic coup with a despised, clueless monarch best known for a desire to be his wife’s sanity product.

Mad Al, Rory, JO’bsworth, Wright, Sopes, Strumpet, Larry etc are in their element… apoplectic with glee that the hated Trump has been dissed.

That’s US President Trump, of the lion’s share of NATO, a long way away across the Atlantic.

The WW2 analogies are as fatuous as they are shrill. And ignore massive Tsar Bomba military realities beyond the more nuanced cluster FUBAR meddling by previous admins that came before.

So the U.K. media got their perceived TDS moment. TTK got his glowing photo ops and headlines. Chas III got wheeled out to destroy all his Mum’s great work. The U.K. public got Rachel from Accounts signing off another diversion of non existent funds. Everyone got a hug.

And the US public look on as the propaganda pantomime plays out in the msm, including their own 5th column, and garner info and share opinion on X, which is speech that’s still free but all above want to curtail.

Not big on cutting off noses to spite faces, so as our ‘elite’ share that ditch with JezBo, it might be the TDS rush initially will feel less worth it.

They say of New York “So Good They Named It Twice”

And there’s a familiar idiom that insists if the point you’re making is important enough that it is not unreasonable to say it twice. “It bears repeating”

And so it is that the gynaeceum that is BBC news staff pick the Labour-supporting Sunday People – AND the Labour-supporting Sunday Mirror to top their online print press line-up. And to make their point.

A sort of double whammy two-hander tag team smack-down – you know, like Trump and Vance performed on Zelensky.

Hug of hope… You’ve got our backing… Keir welcomes Zelensky after White House bust-up… Waves and smiles (Sunday People)

Starmer welcomes Zelensky… We’ve got your back… PM offers full support after White House row… Embrace… Starmer hugs the Ukraine president in Downing Street (Sunday Mirror)

Sunday Mirror and Sunday People to share most content… newspapers look set to begin sharing most of their content under new cost-saving plans at Reach. Staff were told on Wednesday that the two Sunday tabloids would begin to share everything except the splash and pages four and five, Press Gazette understands. – one has to assume BBC news staff are aware of this old news.

The British love-bombing campaign of Zelensky is not confined to the Tweedle Dee Tweedle Dum of socialist red tops, however.

The ever-excitable Sunday Mail chimes in: Now stop the state visit for ‘bully’ Trump

All this love for Zelensky, eh?

I’m oddly reminded of that old catchphrase of the TV comic Brian Conley: The live studio audience would often sympathise with the puppets that Brian used – leading to Brian’s best catchphrase: “IT’S A PUPPET!” which he would shout in defence of mistreating the puppets to highlight the fact no one was actually being harmed. (Thank you to that Mirror celebrity article, dated 2017, for making my point about Zelensky for me)

By the way, watching the longer version of this celebrated Oval Office smack down one couldn’t help but notice Zelensky doing a lot of sniffing. Judging by the sheer quantity of the fact-checks, disiniformation alerts and fake news warnings about his alleged cocaine use being promoted online (he was in showbiz afterall) – I’m guessing there’s likely some ‘substance’ to the story. Remember folks, it’s not a conspiracy theory, if it’s true.

And what has all this got to with me and with the price of eggs, I here you ask?

Reeves unlocks billions for Kyiv and UK defence… multibillion pound funding package (Sunday Times)

Rail fares rise by 4.6% in England and Wale sand the price of most railcards has risen by £5… The government says fares need to rise so it can invest in the rail system (BBC)

Your Mr AsI likes to look beyond the big headline stories so as to highlight hereabouts one or two of what one tends to term those little State of the Nation items.

WH Smith to vanish from towns… staple of British high street since 1792 (Sunday Times)

There was indeed a WH Smith on the local high street when Mr AsI was a lad – but one recalls the closer corner shop newsagents/tobacconist/sweetshop… It was once named Martin’s – which I believe was one of a chain, then Riseley’s after the family who took it on. After they retired to who know’s where we knew it as Abdullas’

Our mate Matt in the Telegraph may have phoned his work in early this weekend as he misses the big Trump story and instead lampoons our Net Zero Greenies by sketching that old cartoonist trope of two bed-sheeted ghosts in their haunted mansion: “There’s a eerie cold spot here. I feel the presence of a heat pump”

Newman in the Times is a creature of the regime – and not particluarly funny at that. Not for the Times in-house cartoonist are comic themes of subversion or of counter-cultural comment. He draws a leaping with joy King Charles in front of a TV screen reporting “WORLD WAR 3” and commenting: Hooray! The world will end before the Trump visit!”

And there you have it ladies and gents – our regime are more than happy to contemplate World War 3 rather than get over their Trump Derangement Syndrome

And finally, how’s that feminism workin’ out fo’ yer?

Boys lose out in gender pay gap… young men’s wages have fallen consistently behind women’s… according to a hard hitting report that warns of a “crisis” facing males under 24 (Times)

We had a funny-ironic line when I was a lad. “Do you want a new pair of boots…? Join the army!”

The phrase “if you believe in nothing you will end up being anything” essentially means that without a strong set of values or beliefs to guide you, you are susceptible to being easily swayed by any idea or influence, potentially leading to a lack of personal direction or identity; it’s often attributed to G.K Chesterton, who is known for saying that when people stop believing in God, they don’t believe in nothing, they become capable of believing in anything.

“US President Joe Biden mistakenly referred to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky as “President Putin” while speaking to reporters about Nato’s support for Ukraine. He later corrected himself, before Zelensky took the microphone.

“President Putin?” Biden said, correcting himself. “President Zelensky. I’m so focused on beating Putin.””

Maybe Hunter Biden can help Trump out ….”Interviews with more than a dozen people, including executives and former prosecutors in Ukraine, paint a picture of a director who provided advice on legal issues, corporate finance and strategy during a five-year term on the board, which ended in April of this year.
Biden never visited Ukraine for company business during that time, according to three of the people.
They also said that his presence on the board didn’t protect the company from its most serious challenge: a series of criminal investigations launched by Ukrainian authorities against its owner, Mykola Zlochevsky, a multimillionaire former minister of ecology and natural resources. The allegations concern tax violations, money-laundering and licences given to Burisma during the period where Zlochevsky was a minister.”

The BBC reports that there are ‘Pro-Ukraine protests across the US’ ( that’s ‘across’ as in ‘a handful’). Helpfully, they have a photograph to show some of the protestors (check it quickly, they’ll soon be changing it after this post). One of the signs reads ‘Welcome immigrants, deport billionaires’, which is kind of ironic in that many such protesting organisations are actually funded by billionaires…. Also notice that one protestor is holding a trans pride flag – yep, that’s what they want US and UK troops to be spilling their blood for in Ukraine.

Quite remarkable (not) how these sort of people all support the exact same things: War in Ukraine, Net Zero, Mass migration, censorship, trans stuff… What you might call the Five Pillars of Liberal Faith. Or as Comrade Lenin might have said: “Useful idiots”.

Thomas-Symonds: Dodds Wrong to Quit, UK Will Still Spend £9 Billion on International Aid

“Chinese official aid – unlike most major nation-state sources of aid – is not regulated and measured under the OECD’s protocols for official development assistance (ODA). According to OECD estimates, 2020 official development assistance from China increased to US$4.8 billion.[1] In this respect, the program is similar in monetary size to those of Norway and Canada. China, however, provides a larger amount of development finance in the form of less-concessional loans.[2] The Chinese government represents its aid as characterised by a framework of South-South cooperation and “not interfering in the internal affairs of the recipient countries”.[3]”

An American social enterprise, Devex reported in 2013 that India has spent US$1 billion on foreign aid in 2012–13. Since 2009, the foreign aid had increased around 3.2 times annually.[4] In 2017, the government declared that India had been a net donor in 2015–16.[5] In the Indian Government budget of year 2019-2020 USD 1.32 billion (INR 8415 crore) were allocated (0.3% of the overall budget) for India’s foreign aid programme . Indian aid receiving countries are Bhutan, Nepal, Afghanistan, Mauritius, Seychelles, Maldives, African nations, Caribbean nations and a few Eastern European nations. Over the years India has funded several infrastructure, development and other projects in many countries worth billions of USD.

A growing amount of UK aid has been spent on UK-based refugees, with spending increasing from £410 million in 2016 to £4,273 million in 2023 (rising from 3.2% of the aid budget to 28%). The Home Office was responsible for £2,936 million of this aid spending in 2023. Most support for refugees went towards providing food and shelter.

It would be somewhat embarrassing to the ‘Little Men and Wimmin’ of the EU and UK if, having backed him, Zelensky is deposed in a coup in the coming weeks. The question is then whether he flees the country with his wealth (well, he’s already shipped out most of it) like Ashraf Ghani, or ends up like Saddam Hussein or Muammar Gaddafi.

If I was Trump I would get out of the mess that is currently the European NATO Countries.
I would let them sort out Ukraine and Russia.
It would mean the whole of Ukraine falling to Russia of course.

Once they (us that is) realise they are led by a hopeless bunch of squabbling ego driven gobshites (except Meloni and Orban) maybe a sense of realism might dawn on them although they might need millions to die first.

If they then see that they need the USA, Trump should require a definite 5% defence spend before allowing a Country to be part of the new American type of NATO.
I think that might wake up our useless gang of leaders.
