The drummer miming in the first 15 seconds is terrible.
Sluff, at first I thought it was BBC’s Top of the Pops where, notoriously, bands appearing were forced to mime and exaggerated their ‘non-playing’ of their musical instruments. The BBC famously had a selection of rubber cymbals for drummers to hit which made no sound. It did seem to be a curious mix of miming and real playing. But then I looked at the seated audience and it obviously was not TotPs and then I thought I caught a glimpse of the Eiffel Tower in the far distance. So obviously not Top of the Pops where the ‘audience’ of mini-skirted girls would have been dancing in front of the band with their boyfriends.

I remember the children watching ‘The Police’ promoting one of their songs, (‘Walking on the moon’), and just pretending to play an ‘instrument’, and me thinking, ‘Why show kids stuff where the skills of playing a guitar were just rubbished’!

The one playing the six string appeared to play it like a bass guitar one minute (playing it slap style) before changing to playing it ‘pick style’ later. I think the whole thing was badly mimed. Back then, when I was a teenager, it was alleged that some groups did not really know how to play their instruments. Were Lovin’ Spoonful one of those groups?

Scrobie, I have got loads of DVDs to watch but I just don’t get time. I have Free Solo a film about a solo climb of El Capitan in Yosemite National Park in California. I made a pilgrimage there (Ansel Adams made Yosemite famous through his photographs) in my first trip outside the UK way back in the mists of time. 🙂 I cannot remember the year now, was it 1981?
I remember when CDs came into replace vinyl and an old Primary School buddy (my best friend) scrapped his vinyl albums to move to CD. Jewish Peter scrapped his vinyl LPs – must be worth a fortune now – to move to CDs. I have got a box of his tapes as he made the move again to cassette tapes. He and I have a similar taste in music. He lent me Ogdens Nut Gone Flake (Small Faces, pre-Rod Stewart) and I nearly wore the LP out playing the story of Happiness Stan narrated by Professor Stanley Unwin. I was delighted to get a copy on CD recently and have downloaded it to my PC. 🙂

Emma had just publicly poured more petrol on the flames, yet thought a one line expression of concern from her would reassure me of her fundamental sympathy and kindness.
Like other people who’ve never experienced adult life uncushioned by wealth and fame, Emma has so little experience of real life she’s ignorant of how ignorant she is. She’ll never need a homeless shelter. She’s never going to be placed on a mixed sex public hospital ward. I’d be astounded if she’s been in a high street changing room since childhood. Her ‘public bathroom’ is single occupancy and comes with a security man standing guard outside the door. Has she had to strip off in a newly mixed-sex changing room at a council-run swimming pool? Is she ever likely to need a state-run rape crisis centre that refuses to guarantee an all-female service? To find herself sharing a prison cell with a male rapist who’s identified into the women’s prison?

I don’t really do sport -but what is happening with previously well behaved sports like golf and tennis ? The stuff at the Ryder cup thing seems well out of hand – has the msm been winding people up ?
I was trying to listen to footy but all they seemed to want to talk about was golf or girl rugby ..
I did watch the semi and the final of the Girls’ rugby for a special reason…
My neighbour had got in some of the best beer in the South – ‘Harvey’s Armada’, and was determined to enjoy a pint or three amongst friends!
The games actually reminded me of decent club rugby from my days, and although I never reached any finals etc, it was lovely to see Twickenham so full of jubilant fans and families!
The bBC were surprisingly reticent to report on it much – perhaps they thought that it wasn’t interesting enough? Sad really, but that’s the way snivel serpents ‘work’!
(There were considerably more at the Genesis concert at Twickers several years ago, but that’s a different story)!
