Given that scripts for The Archers (R4 19:02-19:15) are said to be written far in advance, with the odd topical tweak as needed, the writers seem to have been remarkably prescient with this week’s storyline.
There has been a lot about “our” NHS and the early-Winter crisis it is facing. Three of the younger ones – posh Lily Pargetter, Josh Archer and gay black Paul – have gone down with Noro Virus after an ill-fated meal in the house they share. The local practice is under pressure, with a doctor off sick and demand high.
The saintly Muslima, Dr Asra Malik, is of course coping womanfully with the stress and long hours. Her husband has even been dropping prescriptions off at patients’ houses to save her the work, as well as helping with the faulty heating and other problems with the surgery building.
Mr Malik does plumbing and odd jobs but he really wants to return to farming, as back in his native Pakistan. So. do the Maliks go back “home” or … wait a minute! What if a farm in the vicinity were to become available? Could he take it on and thus stay near Saint Asra and the two kids in Borsetshire?
Funny you should ask that. A farmer called Mulligan, who nobody had ever heard of until recently – despite his working not far from David and Ruth Archer – died not long ago. His only daughter Esme is an IT girl and has talked about taking the farm on but it clearly won’t be easy and she can’t rely on the Archers (helped by Mr Malik on occasion!) to keep milking her late father’s cows.
So, remember you heard it here first. I will stick my neck out and predict that Mr Malik will buy or rent Mulligan’s farm. Problem solved, with the added bonus that these oh-so-nice Muslims will become rooted in the Ambridge area.
But there are nasty people around: older White men like Lawrence Harrington, a cricket buff who had a run-in with the awful Lynda Snell a while back. He was at the surgery today and couldn’t see his usual doctor. He made a racist remark that he could guess how Dr Malik had got her job and did not want to be seen by her, at which point he keeled over with some heart problem (there is a God!) and Asra did the best she could before the old bigot was taken away and said to be in Intensive Care.
A story for our times, part of the BBC’s endless propaganda for the multi-culti society and against older native White folk, as seen in Eastenders and elsewhere. Whites are on their way out (Mulligan, Harrington) and Asians are on the way in (the Maliks and the actor who plays lawyer Usha Franks [nee Gupta] who did an appeal again this evening on real-life R4). Given the seniority of Samir Shah, perhaps we shouldn’t be surprised. The Muslims are always such helpful neighbours and good professionals: what would “our” NHS and society be without them?
I only caught some of Wednesday’s edition but local vicar Alan (married to Usha) seemed to be offering Dr Malik the chance to do her Friday Prayers at his church!! This would save her the drive up to a mosque in Birmingham when she’s so short of time saving “our” NHS. Ecumenicalism at its finest.

One of Britain’s top women police officers will ‘retire’ from her £150,000-a-year job – before returning to it a day later to protect her pension.
Chief Constable Amanda Blakeman, head of the North Wales force, will quit before rejoining after the 24-hour hiatus.
Ms Blakeman, 53, who is chairman of the British Association of Women in Policing, is set to hang up her uniform on January 15 before she is rehired by the same force on the morning of January 17.
The move, due to be approved by the Police and Crime Panel, comes after she completed three decades in policing, the period of service after which many officers were often expected to retire.
It means she will avoid an unusual feature where certain older police pension schemes decrease in value for every year that an officer serves continuously beyond 30 years.
The anomaly has led to the establishment of a national Retire and Rehire scheme which helps forces retain experienced staff.
The break in service on January 16 means her pension will be frozen at its maximum amount. Deputy Chief Constable Nigel Harrison will become acting chief constable for the day.
Police and Crime Commissioner for North Wales Andy Dunbobbin approved the request, subject to the approval of the Police and Crime Panel next week.
‘I have agreed to put forward Chief Constable Blakeman’s request to enter into the national Retire and Rehire Scheme,’ he said. ‘The widely used scheme is in accordance with updated guidance from the National Police Chiefs’ Council, the Association of Police and Crime Commissioners, and the College of Policing.
‘It is important to emphasise that this will come at no cost to the taxpayer and there will be no break in leadership at the head of North Wales Police.

What do you know : more banging the war drums. Every new story attacking Russia worries me that little bit more about what the EU are planning to do to sabotage the peace deal.
Two things stick out in this article as I read it:
‘A foreign ministry spokesman said Russian military intelligence was behind a “cyber-attack against German air traffic control in August 2024″‘
Reading the rest of the article, that should have ‘without providing evidence’ at the start of it BBC. Otherwise we might think you have double-standards depending on the agenda.
And this:
‘The German government said security agencies had identified fake videos alleging ballot manipulation as part of a Russian disinformation effort just days before the election.’
Oh dear BBC. That’s EXACTLY what you did. Multiple times. But what you did was much worse.

‘BBC Verify’ are becoming increasingly bizarre in their desperation to ‘verify’ something for us. They have either been ordered to keep plugging away as if they are the worlds reference for the truth or their manager is giving them pointless jobs in order to justify the size and budget of the team.
Here they confirm a couple of drone attacks. We don’t see video of the attacks, the entire piece seems to want to try and swamp us with impressive facts about how they have proved beyond doubt there were indeed some drone attacks. And in the scheme of the war, it’s absolutely insignificant.

Britain has been very quietly and effectively disbanding its armed forces for a couple of decades. Even when the British army was conducting two wars, in Iraq and Afghanistan the Blair / Brown Labour government caused the disbandment of 4 infantry battalions….and Gordon ” son of the manse” I’m no liar , Brown suggested it was the Army’s own idea.
Rutte’s ( Nato secretary)’ plaintiff cry will go unheard because nobody believes him.
Nothing will change until politicians are held accountable for their lies. Not just here but throughout the West.
In the meanwhile let’s hope “the coalition of the willing”have another meeting before Christmas and make another important statement….after all something must be done.

Black Lives Matter leader indicted on embezzlement and wire fraud charges
The leader of Black Lives Matter’s branch in Oklahoma City has been indicted on embezzlement and wire fraud charges.
Tashella Sheri Amore Dickerson, 52, has been accused of spending millions of grant funds on international travel, groceries, and personal real estate after taking over the civil rights movement’s chapter in Oklahoma City in 2016.
She was indicted on 20 counts of wire fraud and five counts of money laundering on December 3, according to a press release from the U.S. Attorney’s office for the Western District of Oklahoma.

‘A Sudanese migrant who tried to kidnap a teenage girl off the street has been jailed for more than four years.
Abdulmawal Ibrahim Adam, 28, was sentenced at Swindon Crown Court on Friday after admitting to the crime. ‘

The BBC reported his arrest but aren’t flagging up his sentencing….guess they hope you’ve forgotten and it’ll all be buried and hidden away…yet another inconveniently terrible story about the joys of migration.
In that first report they forgot to mention he was a migrant…another ‘Welsh choirboy’….
