A ramble through Local Taxation. Sorry not BBC other than the fact The BBC support Marxism.
With the Labour/Marxist talk of Mansion Tax, I’ve got to thinking about Local Government Taxation in the context of our far Left Government. What is Council Tax? Is it a tax that pays for local services or is it a politics of envy a means of taxing the rich.
At the other extreme from Council Tax was Thatcher’s Community Tax (Poll Tax) which was to replace the old Rates system.. Everybody paid the same based on the idea everyone uses local services and should contribute to the cost. Ideologically people who paid no Tax were voting in elections. Poll Tax failed due to riots by people who used public services but felt they shouldn’t pay for them.
Council Tax was brought into being after the Poll Tax debacle . Rather than a flat rate per household a graduated scheme of value bands ensured people living in more valuable properties paid more, there is an upper limit, the highest band is H and if you lived in a Mansion the most you would pay is the same as people living in any band H property. These days the value of Band H properties could probably start at about £800K and could extend to hundreds of millions.
The Marxists want Mansion Tax, or is it a few extra bands? Is it fair that the more valuable your house the more you have to pay? Mansion Tax, is it merely the Politics of envy? Marxism? Mansion Tax is proposed to kick in at a property value of £1.5 Million, in some areas that’s not a Mansion value. People buying and living in higher value properties will be paying significant amounts of other Taxes.
I call Council Tax, Hut Tax, look it up.

Even if voters do surprise me and choose to defend democracy at the ballot box they will face increasingly severe and repressive tactics by the liberal establishment to hold on to power.
Being right of centre is heading towards being an actual criminal offence, it’s already treated as such.
I notice how the ‘Right’ ptotest about the policies of the Left which they can see are destroying society as we know it.
The Left go for people personally. They never talk about policies, they just hate the people who disagree with them. And it’s that special kind of nasty idelogical hate : the sort which thinks it’s right to murder them. Like Charlie Kirk.

This is an absolute non-story. The basic facts are that they Pizza Express decided to ask around 7 years ago if anyone saw Andrew and nobody could remember anything.
‘Bosses held an internal inquiry that involved looking for records from that time period – none of which could be found – and trying to talk to past members of staff and local management.
The manager of the Woking branch in 2001 had since left the business so could not be spoken to, it is understood.’
Then we get:
‘Newsnight has made extensive inquiries to see if there is any record of a customer or staff member having seen him at the Pizza Express restaurant, but has found no evidence of him being there.’
And no evidence that he wasn’t BBC. Because there is no evidence at all. Why are Newnight wasting taxpayers money on a story like this ?. It is of no public interest at all now. It’s pure spite against someone they detest.
Of course the entire purpose of this article is to kick Andrew in the balls while he is in the gutter with the aim to top up the hate for him as people might start to forget. So on the back of this flimsy non-story, they drag up the entire thing including the interview with the vile Maitlis.
Basically they want Andrew (and eventually the whole Royal family) to be destroyed so we can embark on another socilaist experiment. Which would of course lead to disaster as it always does – but as usual the Left think they are the intellectuals who should decide what everyone else wants.
There are very valid reasons why many people lose their leftist activism as they grow up and start to understand the real world. The BBC are a refuge for those special idiots who don’t.
I’m sure somewhere is a desire to destroy borders and make every country little different from any other. I’m sure flooding all western countries with people from other lands is part of the policy, but so is euthanasia, gay marriage, acceptability of changing gender, net zero and limiting travel to 15 minute cities. But what makes Britain British? Well let’s destroy it by devolution. Add into the mix destroying the British pub. We will tell everyone that eating beef is bad for you and pushing a vegetarian or vegan menu among the young. We will put a woman in as a hopeless woke Archbishop of Canterbury (Gavin Ashendon who was chaplain to the late Queen pointed out she had only 2 years part time training to become a vicar compared to his 7 years full time training). Add to all this the destruction of the monarchy in which our present King seems complicit with his love of diversity and the destruction of Britain is nearing completion. I am sure there are more examples but the direction of travel is obvious.
Further view on Hut Tax, sorry Council Tax which I meant to put in my earlier post. What is interesting is that British property taxes are already the highest in Europe.

The government want to control the media platforms so that we get their version of events and news saying they will put ‘trusted’ providers first.
GB News is, in my opinion, the most trusted news channel. It is watched by the more people than the others such as bbbc and Sky News.
GB News should be the first option when you type in some question or ask about some news story. Maybe Talk TVshould be up there as well.
But it’s not about trust though is it. It’s blatant propaganda and lies. They think by saying they are putting ‘trusted’ sources in their spiel that the public will believe them.
Some will because there are increasing numbers of low IQ people in the population and there’s the gullible lefties who believe what they want to believe.
They are losing loads of people who once did trust the bbbc but ‘Auntie’ has lost her credibility.
I don’t think they will be able to control X and other platforms and this ‘trusted’ bollox is doomed to fail.
Whilst the government do indeed want to control what you see – and especially get rid of Elon Musk and X – I’m going to play Devil’s advocate here and give another perspective:
The proposals are simply intended to give priority to established and trusted providers in accordance with existing practices and policies dating back many decades. In the 1960s, UK television sets began to be equipped with push-button tuners for channel selection; these had to be configured such that the first button was BBC1, the second button was BBC2, the third button was ITV. When the numbers of channels dramatically increased and electronic selection and TV guides became the standard, these also had to be organised with BBC1 at the top, followed by BBC2, ITV, Channel 4 and Five. All Freeview, Freesat, Sky, Set top boxes and televisions are organised this way without exception. When Smart TVs became the norm, the BBC IPlayer app had to be included by default and in a prominent position.
Let’s not be naive: the government’s aim is to control all information, initially by de-emphasising contrary voices, restricting access through age control and digital ID, and banning and censoring if necessary (sic). There is also an agenda of pushing the BBC on YouTube and Netflix (the deals have already been inked), then using this as the excuse to extend the hated TV licence to all media consumption, possibly made inescapable by adding it to Council Tax. But, the idea of promoting official media is certainly not new at all in this country – it’s just that the average person wasn’t aware of what was going on.
There is a legitimate (albeit variable) case for controlling information – that’s not what we’re looking at here – this is a Jacinta Ardern style attempt to monopolise “truth”.
Coming from an ideologically constipated troupe of authoritarian, ignorant eejits like the present Labour Party it’s very dangerous indeed.

Parks were private until the 19th Century, the property of wealthy land owners and the aristocracy, not accessible by most people. You can bet your bottom dollar that if councils can get away with charging fees, the next steps will be to outsource the charging to private companies, and then to sell the parks themselves. It’ll be promoted as saving money for the council tax payers – see, it’s all for your benefit! The exact same playbook as was used for hospital car parks…
Getting parked in many places in Kent is an absolute nightmare – including the hospitals, although the two in Tunbridge Wells and Maidstone do lay on shuttle buses.
So if these towns want to charge me for visiting, and spending money there, they can whistle, because I won’t go there – ever!
Same goes for Londonistan, I’ll never go back there because even the smallest amount of my diminishing pension will never go to the four-foot mare’s smug motorcade expenses!
Tough, when you have a choice, isn’t it! Amazon Prime solves all my delivery issues, and my local supermarkets are a welcome visit, as everyone knows everyone else, so it’s a win-win situation!

The now-published green paper from DCMS details that Labour is committed to a “prominence regime” for social media, requiring platforms and video sharing sites to make state-approved news more prominent to the detriment of independent content. The government would decide who counts as a “trustworthy news provider” but admits the criteria aren’t yet written apart from BBC etc…
Labour says prominence could be made conditional on providers taking on extra “responsibilities.” Compliance…
The scope goes beyond broadcasters to national and local newspapers. The government also says this will be useful during “community tension, social unrest and democratic events.” There is a big Labour effort to shut down free communication during elections and protests…

I have no team representing my country in the World Cup.
This is my position but not one which I share outside of a small group of trusted friends. But I notice that the likes of the esteemed Allison Pearson is a strong supporter of the English team despite being Welsh.
In my view an England victory with a side containing most players with an ethnicity that isn’t English will be used by the liberal establishment to burnish the credentials of their false narrative that diversity is our strength.Many simpletons and football nuts will be swayed by this line of argument , ‘look what they did for the country, they brought the World Cup home’.
I’m surprised therefore that Ms Pearson , who certainly understands the threat posed by migration and all that goes with it, is very happy to go into print about her support for this multiethnic team.

The partner of murdered school teacher Ashling Murphy has settled his High Court claim for defamation against the BBC, receiving substantial damages.
Ryan Casey, 27, sued the corporation following the broadcast of a discussion on BBC News NI’s political programme The View on 30 November 2023.
The discussion focused on the victim impact statement Mr Casey made following the sentencing of Jozef Puska for the murder of Ms Murphy.
Ashling Murphy, 23, was murdered in January 2022 as she jogged on the banks of the Grand Canal near Tullamore, County Offaly.
In a statement read to the court in Dublin on Thursday, the BBC said it stood by the journalism involved in the episode in question, which it said “debated serious issues of public interest”, and acknowledged Mr Casey’s personal tragedy.
“The BBC is however happy to clarify that it does not consider Ryan Casey to be a criminal or a racist, or someone guilty of or attempting to incite hatred, or someone seeking to pose as a hero of the far right through his victim impact statement,” the statement continued.
“This statement clarifies any unintentional inferences that could have been drawn from the broadcast and has enabled the BBC and Ryan Casey to resolve this matter amicably.”
It is understood Mr Casey has received substantial damages as well as a contribution towards his costs amounting to a six figure sum.
In a statement, Mr Casey said the settlement marked the “end of a long and difficult chapter of frustration and censorship”.
“I took this legal action against the BBC not solely out of anger, but out of a need for accountability and dignity for Ashling, for myself, our families, and for all victims who deserve to have their voices heard without such harsh criticism or judgment<" he said.
"I welcome the resolution of these legal proceedings and the acknowledgements made by the BBC in their statement in open court today.
"I hope this serves as a reminder to all media organisations of the high level of responsibility that comes with running such public platforms.
'Finally free to use my voice again'
"This was never just about me, it was about truth, fairness, and decency."
Mr Casey thanked those who had supported him over the last few years.
"I now move forward, finally free to use my voice again, to honour Ashling and to advocate for the changes we desperately require in this country, for the increased safety measures we so clearly need, and for a society that listens to its people, free of gaslighting, blacklisting or censorship," he said.
