THE BIAS TONIGHT

Couple of great examples of BBC bias on “The World Tonight” last night… “In the first, an Indian journalist was asked forhis views on the preparations for the Commonwealth Games. Presumably, nobodyhad read out to him the Beeb’s ground-rules, as he trenchantly observed thatthe defects in the preparations typified the corruption, incompetence andcronyism of the Indian public sector. He contrasted the efficiency of theIndian private sector, pointing out that the … Continue reading

Question Time LiveBlog 23rd Sept 2010

Question Time tonight comes from Liverpool, home to the United Kingdom’s first council house and the first Juvenile Court. This may not be a coincidence. Controlled by Labour and without any Tory representation, Liverpool City Council was rated in 2008 as the worst-performing council in the country. This may also not be a coincidence. On the panel we have the BBC’s newly re-haloed St Vince of Cable, John Redwood, Caroline … Continue reading

PAPER TRAIL

The Today programme claims to set the news agenda for Radio 4 each day. Well, it certainly tries its best, and its own agenda is often plain to hear. The Sky News website publishes an invaluable daily gallery of the UK newspaper front pages. Which of the lead stories found there today were ignored by the Today programme’s paper reviews? Well, besides some tabloid gossip about Posh and Becks, two … Continue reading

WARMING AND COOLING

My Biased BBC colleague Robin Horbury is much better at AGW posts than me but I wanted to bring Richard Black’s latest salvo to your attention. Note how poor Richard feels oppressed by those who dare question AGW. He seems to now saying that “ideological purity” (or what we simply call balance) is impossible because he is under attack from pro-warmers as well as   “deniers”. Please be gentle with your … Continue reading

EVER COMPLAINED TO R4’S FEEDBACK ABOUT LEFTE BIAS…

..and got nowhere? Well, save yourself the trouble in future because the presenter isn’t interested: “Of course everyone has views. It is undeniable that most editorial staff were, and probably are, of a liberal inclination when it comes to social issues, and that they cluster around the middle ground of the political spectrum. I would also suggest they are predominantly secular as well. We all have biases, the crucial thing … Continue reading

Noisy Neighbours

Depicting Gaza and the West Bank as if they were English suburbs blighted by ‘neighbours from hell’ typifies a huge flaw in the BBC’s biased coverage of the I/P conflict.Jon Donnison is one of the worst offenders. After reading yesterday’s report on Gaza (blogged yesterday by David) one could take away the impression that the blockade was merely a hardship that Israel imposed at random upon innocent people just because … Continue reading

Impartiality Gene?

BBC editors were clearly concerned that their coverage of Christine O’Donnell’s youthful activities wasn’t getting the traffic they hoped, and so for much of yesterday and this morning this was the main news story on the BBC.co.uk front page (h/t Cassandra): The carefully chosen “cackling” photo is a nice touch, isn’t it? Meanwhile, yesterday evening this story appeared on the BBC’s website: Eight people, including the mayor and ex-city manager, … Continue reading

MIDWIVES IN THE CLASS ROOM?

Given BBC sympathies, one can hardly be surprised at the easy treatment afforded to Dr Gillian Leng from N.I.C.E. and her suggestion that it might be a good idea in some places to have midwives in schools. Oh, and of course we need more contraception to help bring those unwanted pregnancies.Maybe we should fit out a class-room or two with birthing equipment? I enjoyed the passing reference to the “lack” of … Continue reading

JAILHOUSE ROCK….

Here’s a great example of the BBC advancing its own narrative by choosing to have a faux “debate” with both participants holding the same liberal view as the BBC. Ken Clarke is another BBC hero and it continually finds opportunities to “prove” how his liberal approach to criminal justice works! Two criminal justice experts from each side of the Atlantic – filmmaker Roger Graef and the Harvard professor of Criminology … Continue reading
