I just love the screaming BBC headline “US SNIPER SHOT AT KORAN” An American sniper has been sent home from Iraq for ….using a copy of the Koran for target practice at a shooting range near Baghdad. The Muslim “holy book” (DV italics) was found riddled with bullet holes last week by Iraqi police, who also discovered offensive graffiti inside its cover. My god – as if Abu Ghraib wasn’t bad enough now those pesky Yanks go shooting a copy of the Koran. Time for a Presidential apology and a public enquiry? At a time when too many Islamists use the Koran as their essential manual to justify mass murder without the mildest censure from Al-beeb, I would have thought that this was one of the mildest possible incidents that could occur in any war. However the BBC is so steeped in anti-Americanism that any sort of incident like this is used to demonise the US military further.
AMERICAN GANGSTER CRIME.

I look for further reportage on the retaliation of this incident, showing, without a hint of irony, a bunch of Muslims burning an American flag.

BBC in full outrage at the scandalous Americans

“Churches, priests and businesses owned by Christians have been attacked repeatedly. Kidnappings by Sunni and Shia groups, as well as criminal gangs, have been common since the US-led invasion in 2003. Many Christians have fled abroad.”
People killed, forced into exile in huge numbers, rights abused.
Hardly registered with the BBC over the entire years.
We know where the BBC’s bias is.

Al Beeb just love pouring petrol onto the flammable touchpaper that is Islam.
Perhaps they enjoy aiding the recruitment figures of extremists in the UK with this kind of PR work.
Blood on their hands, yet again.

As one wise head remarked, why do they care about such things when the ‘Islamists’ blow up mosques and believers at prayer …
Surely some Korans must be singed then?

Ian: exactly. I’ve been pondering for some time the nonchalance with which al-Beeb shows flag- and effigy-burning of British, American & Israeli symbols, almost as if they’re trying to normalise it. No outrage or comment there. It’s all part of their unacknowledged racism, I suppose. As if there’s an unconscious, never-to-be-admitted subtext: “these savages can’t be judged by the same standards as us”.

It’s not just the beeb here..the American military I know have to acknowledge the local savagery but get a grip chaps..its a book…mighty mo’s magic book is just a book like any other.well perhaps a little different given that the loss of ones head can be a byproduct of incorrect reading and handling.

Well at least the BBC didn’t ask that dim scouser for her expert opinion.
You remember her? The one in the Sudan who called the Teddy Bear Mohammed.
Had thousands rampaging through the Khartoum demanding she be beheaded… and then goes on al-beeb to say how wonderful the Sudanese are.

in view of the bbc’s self-censorship with an eye on “social cohesion”, is this report likely to have a positive or negative affect?

The BBC seem to have a lot in common with the odious Pete Doherty at this moment in time.
Both are junkies of a dangerous substance that will lead to their inevitable downfall, but they just can’t seem to give it up for anything or anybody, no matter who it may eventually destroy. – including themselves!
The parties over for New Liebour – political correctness and radical Islam, but the BBC are still in a state of outright denial.
Why? – Don’t they realise that Gordon Brown is utterly detested by their own British public!
Or is that just it?
The British public are not relevant to the BBCs political objectives anymore?

Heres the message we should now be sending to the BBC and their beloved Liebour party!!!

Does anyone recall a book being released a few years ago which basically outlined a religious justification for Muslim men to beat their wives – and when it came out, there were literally lines around the block in book stores in London comprised of Muslim males desperate to get their hands on a copy?
This is one of those things that I vaguely recall but I can’t remember any more details. Any help?

Its simple: the BBC want the coalition forces to lose in Iraq.
Like petulant teenagers, the lefties at the BBC want things to go wrong so they can feel smug and say “I told you so”.

It’s a horrible thing to say I know, but I dare say there were lefties at the Beeb who felt perversely smug and satisfied on September 11, 2001.
Never underestimate the capacity of leftoids to celebrate and cheer human atrocities when those atrocities are perceived to be a step toward some “greater good” – usually socialism or the destruction of capitalism.
I feel justified in making this charge because on 9/11 some friends of mine at the time who were leftists (we’d never really talked politics up until that day) were visibly excited and one of them said to me “do you not think it’s just great that they’ve shown those greedy capitalist bastards in America that they’re not invincible?”
I wonder how many lefties at the Beeb own T-shirts or posters depicting the murderous scum Che Guevara, or have a hammer and sickle badge lying around somewhere, or have ever uttered a phrase like “you don’t make an omelette without breaking a few eggs”?
On 9/11, while everyone else was in shock, crying, upset, in mourning – some on the left were talking about “chickens coming home to roost”. I remember some lefty artist on the BBC a couple of nights later talking about the “sheer artistic beauty” of the atrocity. I live in New York now – I have spoken to lefties over here who witnessed the event up close with their own eyes and who think that “America got what was coming to it”.
Never underestimate the sheer capacity for inhumanity in the mind of socialists! Do they want America to lose in Iraq? Sure! And the more US casualties, the better! Liberals over here love when milestones of US deaths in Iraq are announced on the news. They love hearing about soldiers dying and even better, they love the chance to pretend to care for political purposes.

jason,
A lot of lefties in the UK either said out loud or quietly thought to themselves that the US somehow “deserved” 9/11.

Well the Beeb expect fellow lefties to do that sort of thing, don’t they? Do you think they would have given her so much publicity if she’d said “well, I think the Sudanese are a bunch of tribal barbarians with a stone age mindset. I’m glad to be out of that muzzy cesspit”? I doubt it.
Btw, nice to see Mr. Vance using more Elvis Costello-related paragraph headings. Could he fit “Two Little Hitlers” or “Less Than Zero” in there at somepoint please?

Pot kettle black
the implication of that piece is clear- if Christians are being raped and killed and forced to flee by Islamist murderers, it is clearly the fault of the Americans.
So they will only report such attrocities when it suits their anti american agendas.
Shame indeed.

The book was titled “The Muslim’s Handbook” by a Turkish writer, Kemal Guran.

The book was “the koran” by Mo somebody

The book came out in 2000. As reported by CNN at the time:
“A state-funded religious foundation has sparked public anger by publishing a book that says that men can beat their wives as long as they avoid the face and don’t strike too hard.
The “Muslim’s Handbook,” written by retired cleric Kemal Guran, also says that if a man’s wife is ill and he cannot afford a servant, he can take a second wife.
“I am outraged that such a book was published with state funds — with money women paid in taxes,” Zuhal Kilic said Wednesday. She heads the women’s group KADER, which aims to promote women in politics…
The book was published by the Religious Foundation, which is affiliated with Turkey’s government-run Religious Affairs Directorate…
…Although other religious books published in the past have said wife beating was permissible, the “Muslim’s Handbook” comes as the directorate is trying to present a modern interpretation of Islam, including greater rights for Muslim women…”
Oops! Someone forgot to tell the Islamofascists!

Not surprising, the majority of the revolutionary and mass murdering movements of the 20th century were of the left, including the German National Socialists.

The BBC hosted a Question Time two days after the event on which their hand-picked audience foamed at the mouth and celebrated it.
September 13th 2001 was the day upon which my hatred of the BBC was born.

Asking a Beeboid friend what she actually wanted to happen in Iraq, she could not escape from the mantra that “we shouldn’t be there”.
Repeatedly reminding her that we nevertheless are there, and that the people fighting against our forces are the same people who happily blow up scores or even hundreds of the “wrong” sect of muslims at a time in marketplaces or at prayer, and further, that if we withdrew tomorrow there would be bloodshed that would dwarf anything she currently sees, I asked her again: what does she want to happen? The short-circuit in her brain is almost tangible. There’s an audible click as her brain works through the logic that leads inexorably to the fact that at this moment the Iraqi people would be happier and safer after an overwhelming American victory over the islamists, and the establishment of a strong and viable democratic government that keeps religious fanaticism at bay. But she can’t bring herself to say it.
Which leads me to believe that concern for the Iraqi people plays precisely no part in her thinking. It’s all about America. It’s all about wanting America to fail, and ultimately to fall.
Needless to say, both she and her boyfriend have told me that they look forward to the time when “Europe” replaces America as a global superpower. “We’re nearly strong enough already!” I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry, so I said I didn’t know they were such big fans of Sarkozy. “No, not Sarkozy, I mean the Europe that…. Europe as in…”
Don’t worry: I know – the future Europe that doesn’t respect the democratic process that brought Sarkozy to power, the Europe that the BBC wants imposed on us against our wishes, the progressive Europe, the Europe that would’ve left Saddam free to murder hundreds of thousands more, the Europe that would negotiate with tyrrany in perpetuity while the innocent are killed, the Europe that will actively work with the Palestinian Arabs to undermine Israel, the Europe that lends the BBC money in order to spread its message, the Europe that will take an American attack on a book more seriously than islamist attacks on human beings.

To follow gharqad tree’s point, I’d add that the very same Leftists were, almost without exclusion, firmly behind the West’s intervention in Serbia. The BBC certainly was.
To me, this confirms the utter intellectual inconsistency of Leftist politics, where positions are chosen and held on emotion, not reason.

David,
If you’ve managed to get past the troll, please would you clarify what this story has to do with BBC bias.
Reading the story,, it doesn’t seem to me to be materially different from the accounts in the Daily Mail, Telegraph or Times.
In fact it is treated much the same way by the MSM worldwide. Probably most accounts are based on the same AP source.
The US military obviously thought the incident sufficiently serious to send the offender home and to wheel out their most senior commander to make a public apology. It’s not as if the BBC was making a mountain out of a molehill here.
Seems to me a legit story that the media ought to report and that the BBC’s reporting of it wasn’t noticeably biased.
Shouldn’t we stay focussed on examples where it is?

“Reading the story, it doesn’t seem to me to be materially different from the accounts in the Daily Mail, Telegraph or Times.”
This blog is about compulsarily-state-funded BBC bias. We don’t give two hoots about Daily Mail, Times, etc .. bias.

Paul S, bias is not something that you merely comb the phrasing of one article to look for. Bias is what is also evident in the choice of what is and is not reported, and the prominence it is given, as others here have pointed out.
How can it be biased to simply report what every other paper is reporting, and in much the same way? Are the Telegraph and Mail really reporting this because they’re a bunch of lefties? If this has been given undue prominence, fair enough, but has it?

This blog would be a lot more useful if it actually focused scientifically on all BBC bias in both directions, rather than simply cherry-picking data.
It seems to be that right-wingers think the BBC is left-wing, and left-wingers think the BBC-is right wing. Nick Robinson’s blog for example consistently draws criticism for being anti-Brown/Labour.
Regarding the Koran, the criticism here seems to be more about anti-Islamic prejudice than news value or bias. Reports of a U.S. soldier shooting a Koran are obviously news-worthy. If a Muslim soldier occupying the U.K. started using Bibles as target practice, I’m sure many of you on this blog would be apoplectic with rage. It is hypocritical and biased to deny that it is an equally newsworthy story in both directions, particularly given how seriously the U.S. government have taken the incident.

BBC online decided that shooting an inanimate object was the 5th most important story in the world Sunday evening.
Yet, when people of faith are beaten up by those of another faith in London there are no headlines from the BBC…
All religions are equal, but the religions that blow you up are more equal than others.
