A change of heart?

“Her speech to the Republican Convention was a Roman triumph: there’s no doubt about that,” says the Today’s Jim Naughtie on his blog this morning. And there’s more: “It reminded me of Norman Tebbit or Michael Heseltine or Tony Benn at their height…” he goes on. Surely there can be no greater praise than to be compared to Tony Benn?

There was some doubt yesterday, though, when Naughtie didn’t seem so keen, and you do wonder whether the concillitory tone has anything to do with criticism such as this Mail piece or its editorial. The latter suggests “the BBC, despite its supposed obligation to report the news impartially, seems to find Mrs Palin a little hard to digest” and points to the contrast of its coverage with the “almost religious reverence with which the BBC covered Barack Obama at the Democratic Convention last week”. This is the second day in a row the Mail has run with an accusation of bias against the Today programme. I’m not sure that yesterday it found the most deserving target with its complaint against Evan Davis (below). With Naughtie, though, I’d say it’s bang on.

Thanks to those in the comments who flagged up the Mail piece.

Ord Sharp on 5 Lives’ up all night claimed that they had been accused of being biased in favour of the Democrats last week and the Republicans this week.

That a joke. How anyone could ever accuse the BBC of being pro Republicans is beyond me.

The BBC is liberal and soft left, they don’t even deny it. Their coverage if Obama has been sickley sweet.

Anyone who saw Emily (have my tits fallen out again) Maitlis on Newsnight this week just whining on about Palin and her inexperience just gets beyond a joke.

I’m a silly item (anag) Maitlis’s sneering tones have been among the most biased I’ve ever seen in a BBC presenter. She sits there, pulling faces, spitting out words, in a manner that communicates total and utter disdain of the Republicans, as if she’s sitting on top of a cesspit.

And the gall of her using the sexist card to suggest tht Palin had been chosen for her looks! I won’t get in the same gutter (quite) but would merely mention the old saw, “those who live in glass houses…”.

Martin, do you masturbate over Ms. Maitlis every day or just keep yourself for once a week?

Robin beat me to it in expressing disgust at Maitlis, whose venomous attack on Mrs Palin should earn her the sack. It was an astonishing outburst of sexist bile.

Were she treated in such a way, I wonder how long it would be before Maitlis ran sobbing to an industrial tribunal?

Her behaviour is all the more galling considering she is supposed to be a Conservative. Maybe she is bending too far backwards to appear to be supporting the BBC party line.

I wouldn’t wank over a hag face like Emily (have my tits fallen out again) Maitlis.

Anyway, shouldn’t she be at home looking after her kids and doing the ironing?

Well, fair enough. It’s just that you keep mentioning her cleavage and seem rather fond of the term ‘wankstain’, so I assumed familiarity. I’m sure the BBC has someone to do her ironing for her.

    @anonymous

beeb are using loads of cheap sexist rubbish lines in attacking palin.

none of this questioning would be allowed at the beeb and or indeed any company or state organistaion in the UK or US thanks to 40 years of sensible equality laws.

palin’s ability to do the job could not possibly be linked to childcare issues without legal action quickly following.

God, the beeboids worst nightmare – a politician who is a lifetime NRA member & genuinely hunts, rather than just posing with a shotgun come election time.
One of the great tenents of modern beeboidism, all country sports are beyond the pale.

Sorry, don’t see the resemblance at all! And you can bet your ass that she’d be more than capable of adjusting her TV aerial without falling off the bloody roof (sorry Rod)
