TORY WARS

Isn’t it touching to see the PROMINENCE that the BBC is giving to the pretend Conservative tax wars? This is the real dilemma that Cameron faces – the BBC will seek to set up, inflate and plain invent all kinds of stresses within Conservatism in order to deflect the shambles of Labour.

this sounds like pure paranoia, and pure pro-Tory stuff. Proof? None. Opinion? Yes.

    Gus,

    “proof? none. opinion? yes.”

The whole point of this blog is to point out BBC bias isnt it? The fact is there are thousands of prime examples of bias highlighted on this blog, so when you say there is no proof, you may wish to qualify that statement with IMHO?

Are you really stating to us that you believe there is no evidence of BBC bias, have you not read the many posts detailing the many examples of BBC bias?
Come on Gus, the accusation of pure pro Tory paranoia is insulting to the many intelligent posters who take the time to detail BBC bias, you may well see no bias, the fault could easily be yours and not ours.

Gus Haynes may be right, for once. The BBC’s noise over the inheritance tax is not intended to create another false story about a possible Tory split, or to portray them as not having their act together on important topics.

It’s just the usual class-warfare crap. It’s a minor economic issue, hardly worth screaming about at a time like this. In fact, it’s really just one of those party political weapons, so it’s only the BBC’s usual agenda-driven reporting that’s making this a highlight. There’s no important budgetary/economic reason for Newsnight to be doing a segment on it right now. The only reason is to point fingers at the Tories and cry, “You lied about the inheritance tax! Nasty Tories! Tricksy Tories! Evil, rich Tories! In times of economic crisis, the Tories are protecting the rich! We hates them!”

So, Gus Haynes, congratulations. You’re right this time.

Sorry David Preiser (USA) – this is a rare occasion when YOU are wrong. The BBC are gearing up for a summer of Tory splits. If they can’t find them they will invent them.

Is the BBC ignoring this major story?

Perhaps, but surely “Nasty Tories only care about the rich in times of crisis” is potentially more damaging over the long term than “Tory Split”. The BBC can keep bringing this up as “Nasty Tories” in the future as well.

Re-reading this report, the impression is more “Tories lied”, and “Tories don’t have a plan” and “Tories only care about the rich” than “Tory Split”.

Mandelson’s quote about “confusion” is just part of the standard defensive line that “they don’t have a plan on whatever the topic is”.

Of course, the BBC makes sure to close out the article with a word from their favorite Opposition voice, Vince Cable, who basically says, “Nasty Tories only care about the rich.”.

The article ends with the explicit focus on how taxing the wealthy “was seen as a key point in reviving party fortunes.” What a giveaway. The last line – totally unnecessary – reminds everyone that Labour is willing to tax the evil rich even more.
