– that said, I’ve had a tiresome obsession with state funding of “charities” for political purposes for several decades and I did think that the “www.fakecharities.org” was a really good “Internet idea” – its definition of a “fake charity” was any organisation registered with the Charity Commission that received more than 10% of its income or more than £1 million from government and also lobbied government (calling for new laws, policy changes, or more funding). The operators argued this made them taxpayer-funded lobby groups rather than independent, donor-supported charities. They said they focused on unrestricted grants rather than contracted service delivery.
The list was big… but truly ripe for a serious pruning….
Does anyone remember a childhood scam from years ago, when a list of names of friends, other children (mainly), etc., was circulated, and from which you sent a 5 shilling postal order to the name at the top of the list, then added your name at the bottom? The ‘winners’ were supposed to collect quite a large amount of dosh by the time their name reached the top!
I wonder if a similar scheme could be implemented, where an email, protesting to your MP, could be circulated, so that eventually, the said member eventually has thousands of similar emails in his or her inbox, thereby clogging the system completely!
I guess ‘stop the boats’, ‘deport illegals after 24 hours’ and ‘stop the feckless getting benefits’ could be on the email but probably there are many more complaints that could be aired about the total lack of leadership and integrity from our government, and the protest would be legal too!

I’ve a LibDem county councillor (and town councillor) who’s giving their leader some strong competition in the “man’s an eejit” stakes – doesn’t knock on my door any more after a civil but uncomfortable for him Q&A session with facts…
The caliber of recent politicians is just woeful – as are the “executives” that wheedle their way into council top gigs.
Few of them will walk past a money pit that they don’t feel the urge to cast your £££££££ into without consequence.

The Eiffel Tower was closed on Monday after staff went on strike over female workers being removed for the visit of a Hindu religious group, workers and management said.
A delegation of around 100 people linked to the Bochasanwasi Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha (BAPS) group visited the landmark in the French capital on Saturday.
Staff union representative Diane Davoine says as they arrived at the monument, women were told to move.
“During the visit of this delegation, women were asked to leave their places of work in order to place men there,” she told Reuters.
Now to their credit, the French authorities are universally aghast about this unconstitutional action.

In recent years we seem to have imported (willingly or otherwise) several hundred thousand doctors, engineers and architects.
So, how is it that I’ve got to wait weeks for a doctor’s appointment, can’t get my car fixed and nobody is building houses?

Just out walking the dog – I’m actually noticing a lot of what I presume to be recent African arrivals driving new-ish mid to upper range cars (often < 5 years old) – that stands out in Wiltshire towns. Due to local council idiots blocking roads – the main road at the end of my street has 20 to 30 queueing vehicles for a lot of the day…

Honestly … not afaics food drivers / care workers / skilled tradespeople / professions – I worked up and down West Africa for decades and have the confidence to do a certain amount of judging books by their covers (hiring locals) – seeing / overhearing them in supermarkets only confirms my prejudice – not the brightest and best. There’s a scattering of doctors + nurses – but afaics those have been here for a lot longer….
