“the relentless, unremitting stream of anti-Israeli invective that has been pumped into the public mind in Britain over the last decade or so”

A memorable phrase nicked from an article in the Jpost by Robin Shepherd entitled “New Era as British Hostility Reaches Crescendo”

“a country (Britain) whose opinion forming classes rank among the most hostile to Israel in the Western world”

is another. Robin Shepherd writes about the recent escalation of anti-Israel press coverage particularly in the Guardian. They have resorted to trawling for any crumb to sustain the momentum they’re whipping up towards some unmentionable goal.

Although not mentioned by name, guess who else might have had a hand in creating that state of affairs. Two Marks for a good guess.

“Pumped into the public mind!” “ Opinion-forming classes!” “ Who does that sound a bit like, Mr. Byford?” “I don’t know Mr. Thompson, but it does sound a bit like defamation by implication. Maybe we should get Carter-Ruck onto the case. We’ll sue certain right-wing bigots for defamation. Phone Justice Eady. Mr. Tudor has a ready-made plea, para 4. It just needs slight adaptation:”

“Although the Claimant was not actually mentioned by name, ‘the relentless, unremitting stream of anti-Israeli invective that has been pumped into the public mind’ impliedly refers to the BBC in their capacity as misleaders and chief spokespersons against the Zionist entity. This is libel by implication thereby damaging to their irreproachable reputation for impartiality. “

“Yes,” the claimant could attest. “Nothing must damage our irreproachable reputation for impartiality.” “we are honestly telling things the way we see them. From a left of centre perspective, naturally; with peculiarity, idiosyncrasy, and stubborn-mindedness thrown in; and some of us were very, very drunk at the time”

The accused may struggle to stump up the ransom. No public funding, you see. Not to worry, the threat of litigation alone might be enough to shut up the likes of Robin Shepherd, Melanie Phillips and others. It would give the BBC free rein to carry on carrying on, till the end of the road.
After all,
“each new assault on Israel’s integrity helps legitimize and validate the next”
(Robin Shepherd again.)

Disclaimer. This stream of invective contains irony, parody and an imaginary scenario and does not represent the views of anyone, directly or impliedly, and any similarity to anything else is a figment of your tiny imagination.

MARK EASTON – CLASS WARRIOR!

Anyone catch Mark Easton’s breathless endorsement of the latest piece of NuLabour class warfare proposed by Alan Milburn? Mark’s just so excited by this instance of social engineering! Milburn was then afforded the prime time slot on Today here. It’s lovely to see how the BBC synchs with Labour, isn’t it? Flawless. Listen BBC – Vote Labour. By way of balance, Melanie Phillips has this take on it, with which I fully agree.

Left of centre, off of the strip…

BBC executive says corporation should foster ‘left-of-centre thinking’ reports the Telegraph.

Hat tip: DB, who wrote in the comments to David Vance’s earlier post on this: “An anonymous commentator mentioned the Ben Stephenson piece in the comments here yesterday. I brought it to the attention of Conservative Home where Jonathan Isaby blogged it. This led to the Tory culture and media spokesman commenting on it, as did a number of Telegraph bloggers. The Daily Mail has run a story on it and today I see that it’s on the front page of the Telegraph. Not bad going.”

Not bad at all.

Takes me back, this does. I just went on iTunes and spent 79p on a little Suzanne Vega nostalgia. Having spent three minutes back in 1986 I can almost, sort of, maybe believe Ben Stephenson’s claim that:

“Like ‘left-field’, it is a phrase that I use with frequency when talking to the creative community to encourage them to develop and approach their ideas from a completely new perspective,” he said.

Correction: that he frequently uses the phrases “left field” and “left of centre” when talking to the “creative community”, that I believe 100%. I bet they lap it up.

The bit I almost – but not quite – believe is that he really doesn’t think he is being political. I didn’t believe it of Suzanne Vega either.

PERFECT COMBINATIONS

I see that the BBC has been running a Lancet generated sob story about the alarmingly high African male gay AIDS rate. It seems that the cause of this disease is “cultural, religious and political unwillingness to accept gay men as equal members of society”. The solution is to spend more money on it, apparently. We have to wade through several paragraphs of nonsense to discover that “gay men were also more likely to be involved in other high-risk behaviours, including sex work, having multiple partners and being in contact with intravenous drug users” You don’t say?

THE MCBRIDE PRINCIPLES…

Am I alone in being far from surprised that Gordon Brown’s long term media attack dog, Damian McBride chose BBC “5 Live” to start the process of trying to restore his fortunes? I just knew that Victoria Derbyshire had to have some purpose in life and now we know what it is! It’s also interesting to observe how McBride is still trying to serve his master, the Dear Leader, by claiming he was “so angry” when McBride divulged the contents of his emails, that “he could not talk”.

Well, as far as I am concerned silencing McDoom for a few moments was an unexpected act of public service on the part of the loathsome McBride. But this is self-serving tripe. McBride is asking us to suspend all reason and accept that Brown was unaware of his particularly vicious style of media manipulation hence the alleged “anger”! But it was precisely that quality that appealed to Brown and which made McBride so invaluable to him during the long years in the Treasury bunker! This is more spinning and it is telling that the BBC was McBride’s preferred media outlet.

WE NEED MORE LEFTIST THINKING..

You couldn’t really make it up!

Ben Stephenson, the BBC’s drama commissioning controller states unequivocally:

“We need to foster peculiarity, idiosyncrasy, stubborn-mindedness, left-of-centre thinking”.

Why? That’s not the job of an unbiased broadcaster, is it? But it is the mission of a profoundly compromised leftist dominated State monopoly. My thanks to Mr Stephenson for confirming that which we all know to be true – the BBC is institutionally biased and likely to get worse. Axe it.

(Hat-tip to all who sent me this! I have been so busy this is my first chance to blog it here!!)

SWINE FLU AND BBC TROUGHERY

Wonder what you make of the news that the BBC has been “stockpiling” thousands of doses of the swine flu drug Tamiflu? About 4,000 doses of the Tamiflu drug have been bought by the corporation. I rather agree with Scottish Tory public health spokesman Jackson Carlaw who has said that : “It is nothing short of disgraceful that a licence payer funded body is storing away an antiviral which is free on the NHS.”

MORE MARR

Anyone catch Andrew Marr this morning and if so, is it contagious? More seriously, I heard him interview Conservative wee Georgie Osborne and then NuLabour leader in waiting Alan Johnson aka Postman Pat. I felt there was a visceral difference in the tone and attitude adopted by Marr during these interviews. With Osborne it was aggressive and challenging, but with Johnson it was conciliatory and agreeing. It’s as if the Conservatives are in government and Labour are in opposition given the way Marr went after Osborne. However, in a year’s time, that will be the case and THEN the BBC attacks will really kick is. Anyone who thinks that BBC will give Cameron and his pals an easy ride once they hold the license-fee purse strings need to think again. We will have a sustained attack on every move made by the new government and Marr and his ilk are only warming up.
