Victoria Derbyshire’s recent Nick Clarke Award for best broadcast interview has been rewarded with the loss of an hour to Obama-lovin’ glamour puss Gabby Logan, who will now be on from 12 ’til 2 weekdays. She’ll be followed by Richard Bacon which means that R5L’s afternoon output will now be determined by the daily obsessions of a tiny number of like-minded celebrity luvvie twitterers.
At least my preference for the afternoon slot has been given his own show: former Sunday Sport editor Tony Livesey takes over from Bacon for the late night stint. Livesey’s occasional stand-in sessions on Weekend Breakfast have made the alternative to the Sunday morning religious broadcasting on Radio 4 bearable for a change. Bonus – his appointment has not gone down well with one Five Live permanent fixture, leftie luvvie Boyd Hilton. I hope Livesey bears that in my mind when he’s booking his guests.
For those unfamiliar with Livesey’s work, this is from the Press Gazette report following his resignation from Sport newspapers:
Livesey told Press Gazette his lasting legacy would be the Cutting Edge Channel 4 documentary about the Sport that showed him coming up with the headline “Shoots You, Sir” about the murder of Gianni Versace. The headline referred to popular comedy sketch show The Fast Show that included a sketch where two tailors said the catchphrase “Suits you, Sir”.
Livesey said: “One of my other proudest moments was when I didn’t quite believe the story ‘Aliens turned our son into a fish finger’ so I told the reporter to go to Asda buy a packet of fish fingers, mix the child in with them and see if the mother could pick it out.”
A bigger role for Livesey has got to be a good thing, yeah?
Update. Forgot the hat-tip to Martin in the comments.
Update 2. Imagine the outrage from all the luvvies if Twitter had existed when Livesey responded to the death of a gay fashion icon with the headline “Shoots You Sir”.
Looks like the station is being downgraded in preparation for its move to the bonny banks of the Manchester Ship Canal.
Move the football back to Radio 2 and put it out of its misery.

What a steaming pile of horse poo that line up is. Bacon is so hard left he makes Nicki Campbell look like a card carrying member of the Nazi party. Gabby Logan is about as popular as a fart in a spacesuit (she got booted out from the crappy dancing show by the general public and didn’t stop whining about it for a year) and Vicki Pollard is just plain stupid.
Why couldn’t they have found someone with a bit of gravitas? Logan is a hard core Liebour luvvie, her favourite ‘guest’ is good old Toilets Maguire so we know how her coverage of PMQ’s will go down.
Tony Liversey is a good choice for the evening slot but it looks to me like the BBC is ensuring a block of hard core leftists presenting Radio 5, starting with Nicki Campbell and then after the gruesome threesome we get Drive with hard left Peter Allen and Anita Annand.

Yes, you’re right, it’s Twitter’s fault that you’re not funny! Just as it’s the fault of every homosexual in the land that Martin feels inadequate, no doubt.

A third less of the vile VD, things are looking up. However Richard Bacon means that 5Live will be a complete no-go area in the afternoons. RB makes Simon Mayo seem politically balanced. It’s the run up to an election so Bacon may swing a few votes…

Sorry mate while I admire your fortitude, for me the whole of R5L is a no go area.
I admit, I did used to enjoy Fighting Talk back in the days of Christian O’Connell but even thats been ruined by the appalling Colin Murray and his politically correct rewiring of the show.

Classic john Pinhead today. Talking about the latest raft of opinion polls that show the tories on average 17 points ahead (and most have done so for months now) Pinhead stated that “we have to wait for a few more polls yet to see if Labour are really that far behind”
What 20 polls are not enough?

The changes are not greated well over here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/5live/2009/10/bbc-5-live-schedule-changes.shtml – seems some senisble people do listen to the Beeb, and can spot the plants a mile off.
