LOOKING FOR SPLITS

You should listen to this interview with Lord Howard which took place this morning on the BBC. I think he handled it very well when it became clear that Sarah Montague had only one real agenda item – to get him to attack Ken Clarke. You could feel his exasperation at the way in which he was being constantly invited to condemn Clarke and the fact that he actually praised the specific initiative clearly irritated Montague. Well played, Lord Howard! The BBC, Montague included, seem unable to comprehend that crime falls when you lack up criminals.

David, slightly off topic, but why is one redneck pastor who wants to burn a koran, so much more newsworthy than a bunch of mullahs who routinely sentance women to be flogged and stoned to death ?
In fact why don’t the more medievel practices of islam receive the full investigative might of our worthy beeboid newshounds ?
Surely not double standards at the bbc ?

Michael Howard is one of the few Tories who fight back against the BBC.
I was a bit disappointed he never became PM.

It was Hague acting as a treacherous twat that kyboshed that prospect.  If Hague had stuck to his deal with Michael Howard and acted as Deputy Leader things would have gone so much better for the Conservatives.  Howard is a truly class act.  We dont have anyone who remotely approaches him on the Tory benches now.  Nor for that matter, of the calibre of Heseltine, as much as I would disagree with much of his politics .. Hold on, I’m talking tosh.  .. Clarke is of their calibre, but his a looney leftie!

Sarah Montague had a point in that Clarke is on record as wanting to cut sentencin and reduce the prison population.  But as Lord Howard made clear, that’s not the basis upon which he’d been invited to appear on the programme.

Also, it seemed to me that Howard was trying to make the case that his support for this re-education scheme (or whatever it’s supposed to be) would help keep the current prison population from getting even larger.  Isn’t that part of what Clarke was talking about?  Or is this just a “Tory Split!” gotcha moment?
