Lucas Mendes is a New York based Brazilian journalist who writes a weekly column about US current events for a Brazilian audience. His articles often attack the American Right, and in particular the Tea Party movement (which he really hates). He works for the BBC.

The BBC’s English-speaking US correspondents must be envious of Mendes – BBC Brazil doesn’t bother with even the slightest pretence at balance.
(I don’t quite understand why the BRITISH Broadcasting Corporation is employing a Brazilian journalist to provide opinion pieces about America for Brazilian consumption.)
I tried to send this entity an email but I have been defeated by the options presented to me. Can someone please either tell him that he is an abomination, and that licence-payers like me object to people like him being paid to write such bile. Or, tell me how I can do so myself.
When I first read your comment I thought you were asking how you too could be paid to write similar bile (“tell me how I can do so myself”.) I realise that’s not what you meant, but here’s the answer anyway:

It’s nothing to do with cuts. The BBC has for a long time been trying to extend the tentacles into every corner of the globe. It was enabled by the Foreign Office, which funded all of it. Until the eeeevil Tories got to them, that is.
Now the BBC will have to pay for it out of the license fee, and perhaps now this kind of opinion propaganda will get cut so the mandarins can continue to pad their pensions and fund their Journalism college.
I just wonder if the unintended consequences are yet to be measured. I reckon that the socialist bbc will now hide its subversive activities. and we’ll never know what they’re doing. at least when the FO was paying, I assume, they could ask about what the money was being used for.

I do. Because we are stupid enough to provide the money for them to do it!
Could be a positive outcome here. Once people begin to realise that they will be funding the World Service directly through the licence fee, rather than through the more removed general taxation that funds the Foreign Office, they might start to take a more personal interest in the biased crap the World Service pumps out, much of it antagonistic to Britain, and object to paying for it.
But I guess that could be a touch optimistic.
