ALL ABOUT PRIORITIES

That most scrupulous and ethical organisations, the United Nations, has released statistics that claim 3,000 civilians were killed in Afghanistan last year. The BBC covered it this morning. 77% of deaths were caused by the Taliban, with the balance attributed to NATO forces. Guess which element of these statistics the BBC focused on? Let’s not talk about Taliban savagery towards fellow Muslims, shall we?

Non-Westerners killing their own kind isn’t interesting to the BBC. No outrage to be had. After all, it’s not the senseless loss of innocent lives that bothers them: it’s the political angle.

Saw the 6pm news 24 piece on this.
    1. The first bit of film showed a suicde bomb from last December-unless you were in the know, you`d not realise that it was a Sunni attack on a Shia martyrs festival(flaggelation etc).
So this was a Sunni/Shia atrocity, and absolutely nothing to do with the west.
    2. The second bit of film was given equal prominence, showing victims of a drone attack by US forces.
Given that 80% of the casualties were carried out by the Taliban, wouldn`t you have thought that the firsp piece would be four times as long by way of explanation?
The second would have been a tragic error, whereas the first was deliberate Muslim/fellow Muslim murder…but, I guess that this would confuse the BBCs “narrative setting” with the truth..whatever that is!

Despicable, but what else do we expect of the BBC?

The BBC has a history of this, I wasn’t old enough to remember WW2, Korea etc but the behaviour now and over Iraq and over the Falklands I would suggest that it is par for the course. It MAY be an attempt to be fair and not jingoistic but unfortunately the BBC now are waaaay on the other side of the line. As mentioned recently, compared with certain coverage – revealing secrets, putting lives in danger, actually being responsible for loss of British servicemen etc – William Joyce, the most famous Lord haw haw was hung for a lot less.

Sorry but I don’t accept the argument that the BBC is trying to be fair to both sides.  It is the British national broadcaster , paid for by taxation.  It stands for us and no-one else.  Any other stance is treason.

No wonder Blairs first act was to strike down the death penalty for treason …
