SITE ACCESS

Can I ask if anyone has had problem accessing the site today? I’ve found it hasn’t been loading for me and want to know if the problem is wider than just my connection?

Thanks for that. Will follow up, it’s stopping me posting

I haven’t been able to access it for the last hour.

I thought it might have been a D.o.S. attack. It wouldn’t be unexpected. Last night’s Newsnight was sickening.

Yep, I thought that as well; the section on female genital mutilation was appalling.

Yes, I usually have trouble getting through to the site, it’s rarely just smoothly straight through these days, really hit and miss. Half the time I give up trying and just try again later.

Get ‘Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage’ or a ‘HTTP Error’.

OK, there must be some issue and I have asked our Tech Expert to see if he can solve. The posting issue has stopped me putting up some stuff you have sent me so my apols, that’s the reason

Very slow especially when changing from one page to another. I thaught it was BBC sabotage.

Me too. I have no end of problems with this site, including regular pop-ups IE lost connection, recovering webpage.

Its such a problem I use it less than I otherwise would.

I wouldn’t be the least bit surprised if its sabotaged – if the BBC can’t do it themselves theyll just get GCHQ onto the job.

No trouble this evening, but on previous days I’ve been given a 503 error on occasions that eventually resolved itself.

It has been doing it for weeks. The entry to the site seems to go in cycles. Some hours you go into waiting, then you get a few hours of no problems.

I’ve had problems, too though it seems OK now. Couldn’t access the site at all earlier this evening. Tried about five times, then left it until now (22.46).

Quite slow moving between posts this morning. Once this afternoon couldn’t load comments on Open Thread. fine apart from that.

Off topic: Good God! Currently watching the most hideously revolting political correctness on BBC’s Newsnight; it’s about female genital mutilation but as always the BBC cowards are pussyfooting around the real cause, Islamic third world immigration, by using the PC term ‘ethnic communities’. Oh, by the way, the BBC thinks that it is our fault that these third worlders are coming here and having this done to them. What i want to ask is ‘what the hell are they doing here in the first place?’

Coming to what they know or they’ve heard is a now truly ridiculously over tolerant EU country with the most spineless politicians that’s just become a complete and utter fuckin pushover!

Wouldn’t connect at all on one occasion tonight, and a couple of timeouts today when trying to load the Open Thread, but this isn’t just today i.e. would agree with previous comment that over last couple of weeks it has been a lot slower plus timeouts have occurred more frequently (sometimes when trying to post a comment).

I agree with Alex: Newsnight treatment of female genital mutilation at first seemed quite brave, for them. However the Government seems to be doing nthing about it, except to have a meeting in October. All those present agreed however that if examination of young girls were to take place: all young girls should be examined on returning from abroad that includes middle class white children returning from Brownie Camp. Be careful of upsetting the Muslims.

    • Aerfen says:

It would be an horrendous intrusion if even all Muslim girls were examined on return from abroad. The answer is surely when young women become pregnant and intimate examination becomes routine, to prosecute the parents if FGM is found to have taken place – twenty years after the event perhaps, but the knowledge that this could happen (or sooner if there was reason for intimate examination) should act as a deterent. The woman should have no say in whether or not a case was brought either, so that no pressure can be brought to bear on her.

Absolute rubbish! Not all parents are around “twenty years” later. The medical check on babies and kids could be done ridiculously quickly and the best time to do it, say every year or two, is when they’re young, say up to 6 or 7 years old. I’d put kids before parents (yes i’m one) and make it law today!, to not only help stop barbaric FGM but also some paedophilia.

Perhaps the success of the site means that there simply isn’t the capacity at the server side to respond? Time to upgrade? The downside of running your own server(s) is always going to be that success brings cost. The more the word gets out the more traffic you will attract.

So not being able to access the site is a positive really! 😉

Seems more likely than the BBC being involved in a DoS – that’s a touch paranoid and the symptoms are the same.
